A few things:

Lost hints/spoilers from TV Guide.

Deleted scene that ran on Good Morning America yesterday.

Huge ratings for the season premiere.

Shannon's awesome hair. (Awww!)

Captain Hero Doctor Fugwig. (I have to say, the hairstyle itself isn't all that bad--the bad part is that it's so patently a wig.) Also a shot of Crazy Hatch!Desmond on that page, for those of you unable to view who were wondering what he looked like. Lost Media is running late on their screen caps due to Hurricane Rita, it sounded like, but they should have theirs up soon. I'd do some icons once they put some caps up, but... eh, the recap was more talky than funny.

Speaking of Desmond, I think we have decided that he is Scirish.

By the way, I totally forgot to mention a nice little touch near the end of the episode: Kate starts counting to five as Locke lowers her down the hatch, the way Jack taught her to in the pilot.

Given that my absolute favourite accents on the face of the earth are Scottish accents, and that my dream in life is to marry a Scottish hairdresser, I think I can attest to DesmonD's accent being Scottish.

If you see any deep fried Mars bars hanging around the ole hatch, he definately is.

Oh my God, Captain Hero Doctor Fugwig looks like John Sheppard.

I AM SCARRED FOR LIFE.

Wow...he really really does, now that you mention it. Or maybe like the darn-close-in-age brother of Sheppard. For what's it's worth though, I think Sheppard pulls off that particular look better...

After listening to him again on the episode, I'm positive that it's Scottish, just with unusual Rs for a Scottish guy.

Can someone tell me what was in the deleted scene, please? I can't open the file on my computer.

Oh, most definitely. Because Sheppard is the sex.

BUT OW.

Dr. Jack Sheppard looks like Dr. John Carter (http://www.nbc.com/ER/bios/Noah_Wyle.html).

Hmmm...glad they deleted that, personally. "She's a girl, Jack...maybe she wanted you to tell her not to go". Blech...

I think what Charlie was implying was that Kate likes Jack. I'm a little glad it was deleted--it didn't seem quite in character for Charlie, although that's an awfully bold thing for a viewer to say, especially about a character as schizophrenic as Charlie. However, it made sense out of Jack's decision to go after Kate.

I understand what he's getting at, but did he have to make it a gender issue? Couldn't it just have been "I see the way she looks at you - maybe blah blah blah". Or something. Or maybe I'm just oversensitive to gender slamming. *g* But as you mention, it doesn't seem overly in character...for Sawyer, maybe, but not so much for Charlie.

j/k on the Sawyer crack, BTW...;-)

I didn't have a problem with Jack's decision in the first place--I mean, Locke went because he just had to know what was in the hatch, and that's been his obsession the whole time. Kate went because, as she rightly pointed out, someone needed to go with Locke in case he fell, and she's always been the adventurous tree-climbing "I wanna go too" type. Jack went because, after Kate went, he was probably going to go insane sitting there the rest of the night wondering what was happening and if she was okay. I don't really need a Jack-Charlie scene to "explain" it for me. : )

Just wanted to point out that the links to Shannons awesome hair are now all of Jack.

Pictures of Shannon and somehow its STILL all about Jack.

I didn't find it to be offensive in the least. It wasn't gender-slamming, it was just a stereotype--one which is not unfounded, actually. Women like to know someone cares--and so do men. What harm is there in it? He isn't calling her a slut, just saying she wants to know Jack cares whether she stays or goes.

I'd probably say that scene would be more appropriate with one of the women, who know women, or Sayid, who somehow knows everything.

Hee! It's fitting somehow, isn't it? (I'll make a note, but basically go up a level on the galleries and you can see Shannon's hair.)

I wasn't saying they needed it. It made it less random than "Okay, you can go, and I'll stay. Wait a second, I've changed my mind!" I didn't think anything was awry, either, but it made a little more sense after seeing the scene. It wasn't needed, you're right, but it made sense.

You know, I went and looked, and I think they've accidentally started uploading screencaps to the wrong section. Maybe the links will be corrected by tomorrow...

Yeah, I'm not saying *you* said that. I think I was sort of half-addressing the people doing the show itself at that point. : )

Personally, I find the whole "women asking permission and really wanting to be told what to do" more offensive and harmful than calling someone a slut. And I know at least as many men who do that in a relationship as women, so I do think it's fairly unfounded.

Wow...that reads kind of angry. I'm not, really. :-)

Hi Cleo,

Thanks for the links... they're interesting.

I know you mentioned that you'd seen someone who'd tanslated Walt's whispering. But I wasn't entirely sure if you had the actual links to the sound clips. I found them and figured it's nice to share...
It's from this message board thread:
http://forums.go.com/abc/oceanic/thread?threadID=561734

Walt Original: http://www.angelfire.com/psy/bleedthesky11/walt.mp3
Walt Backwords:

(PS- you can't direct link, so copy the addresses and paste them to get to the clips).

So Charlie's a bit ignorant. I don't think he's really in a position to know Kate's mind any better than Jack is, and considering the fact that many of the women he's known have been groupies, well...

Like I said, it's not unfounded for that very reason. People of both genders do it--people in general do it, and do it quite a bit, so it can't be completely unfounded.
