So, uh... my mother just came home and told us about a letter that was put in her work mailbox:

Mom: "Well, it was in an interoffice mail envelope, sealed up with my name on it, but it was in [J.K.--not important]'s box, so the mail girl took it to my assistant, and they opened it because it looked weird, they said. And inside was this piece of paper and someone had written on it in this big, weird childlike handwriting, you know, like an adult trying to write like a child, and it said, I SAW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER."

Me: "Yeah, I saw what you did last summer, too... and it was pretty boring. Sounds like someone's been watching Desperate Housewives."

And of course there's the obvious movie reference. Neither reference makes any sense, particularly when you consider that my mother hasn't had so much as a parking ticket in years. I can see how my estranged father or someone affiliated with him might want to prank or unnerve my mother, but... it came through interoffice mail. The hell? Office security has it now. I don't feel good about this.

Oh man! That's really creepy! Hopefully it's nothing more than a stupid co-worker playing a really horrible joke. *hopes and prays*

Weird.
Maddeningly, you'll probably never learn anything else about it, but that's better than some of the alternative scenarios, eh?

Your icon is gorgeous!

Anyway, my sister went to Scotland one summer years and years ago right before the movie came out, and then the following summer, a friend of hers sent her an anonymous note at work saying "I know what you did last summer..."

Errr.. yeah, that is rather creepy. I'd feel rather unhappy about it as well, although chances are - coming through Interoffice mail - that it's just some kind of joke that no one except the sender gets. And not a creative sender, either. If I was going to pull something like that I'd get mad creative; A photo of their car with the words, "Did you know what this car had been used for before you got it? It was involved in an international heist, and the car is the mastermind! Mwah ha ha!"
Of course, there's another example of a joke no one would get but the sender... or in this case, me.

Not a creative sender at all... And if only the sender would get it, why bother to send the thing in the first place??? *ponders*

all_ephemera, I love your icon. *watches it play over and over and over... drool*

I hope that it was just a harmless prank, especially since it sounds like your mom is someone who doesn't really incur anyone's wrath.

Still...that is kinda werid.

Somebody is bored. Also might have been doing legitimate business and pranking (for someone else) at same time, and stuck wrong docs in wrong envelopes and now is too ashamed to step forth. Just a thought...

Got my fingers crossed anyway, just because.

But my mother's name was in creepy writing on the envelope as well, which is why the mail chick opened it. I don't know.

...People are a bit dumb, so it might be likely that they thought your mother was someone else?

Hopefully they'll catch the person who did this. Honestly, some people should not be allowed to leave their house if they think that this is their idea of amusement. ¬_¬

Given the movie reference, that might count as a threat. As in, something you could go to the police with— your family background would probably make it credible. Something to keep in mind.

but... it came through interoffice mail. The hell?
Anyone can walk into an office. Also, it was in the wrong mailbox, which might suggest someone who wasn't very familiar with the office setup.

Well, that's true. The reason I immediately think of my father is that I can't imagine who would have a problem with my mother at work. On the other hand, she's very successful, so it might not be a problem with *her* so much as--well, they're jus jellus, to touch on a cliche. But it is with office security. If there's a second incident, I'm going to insist that someone get involved. Of course, my stepfather is super-protective of my mother, actually studied law enforcement before he got into his current line of work, was an Army reservist, etc.--what I'm saying is, I'm pretty sure he'll know where to go and who to talk to, and won't be shy about doing it.

I don't know what your mom does, but as you say it's a corporate environment, so in the movies they always ask about disgruntled and recently let go employees first. It does sound creepy, but I really hope it turns out to be a bad joke!

Unfortunately, I've found that there are a lot of -sick- people out there. Someone really twisted might just get a kick out of scaring your mom, or any other person.

However, there's a chance that an even MORE twisted person would continue to bother your mother, so I would suggest that she take some minor precautions, like never being alone at work, and walking to and from her car with someone.

I hope everything is well! <3

Hey, you've probably already thought of this (or maybe you've already had a comment to this effect), but our interoffice envelopes all have a trail of where the envelope has been because they are reusable. So names and departments are all crossed out but you can usually still read them. The previous name/dept might give a clue where it came from. Obviously that would be really stupid of the sender, but then, I really can't see something like this coming from anyone with much intelligence... so... it's a thought.

Kinda creepy though. Hope it's nothing!

If this IS some nitwit trying (and failing miserably) to be funny, I sincerely hope your mother's employer utilizes the legal system to impress upon said moron the difference between "prank" and "felony".

If you'll excuse me, I have to get back to shredding paper. Everyone at work leaves their cars unlocked and unattended during the day, so I'm turning all their defrosts up on high...and filling the vents with confetti. :o)
