You're hotlinking if you link directly to that image file when you post it in your own diary for everyone to see.

You are not hotlinking if you save the image file and then upload it to your own webspace and then link that in your own diary for everyone to see.

Hotlinking puts excessive strain on bandwidth because there will be multiple pages trying to pull the file off the server. Using your own webspace (or linking to the original page) spreads the load around.

Or something. Maybe I'm wrong.

"Edited to add." Or, if you fly a lot, "Estimated time of arrival." Mostly it's used to catch someone's attention--like, you read the entry the first time I posted it, so I'm trying to catch your eye if you see it again to let you know that I've added something. Or, in some cases, it's to admit that the content has been changed, acknowledging that this is not what the poster originally said--particularly in a debate or discussion.
