LOL I saw that. My first thought was "Is that where gerard butler is?" Then I realized it couldn't possibly be him - he looks different, and that's just SO beneath him.

Also - really lame gimmick. REALLY lame.

And what was up with Beyonce singing practically everything? Josh Groban would've been fine by himself. :P

I had some speculation about that in my LJ. I toyed with the idea it might be Antonio Banderas--he was the Phantom on Broadway for a while, I think. I know he sang the Phantom's part in the Andrew Lloyd Weber 50th birthday gala dealie. So it would've been a nice nod. But I think that guy's too short.

Also, Antonio, despite what he's let happen to his hair, has more dignity than that.

Thank God that was not Gerard Butler ...

... my love for him would of been seriously diminished. Rob Lowe redux? Uhhh, no thanks.
Instead the man has the good taste to hang with Emily Mortimer (squishes her w/ love) instead of Beyonce. http://www.livejournal.com/community/gerardbutler/97586.html#cutid1

All I have to say is: AHAHAHAHAHAHA. *ahem*

Also, Cate is awesome. From E!Online (http://www.eonline.com/Features/Awards/Oscars2005/Blog/928.html): "Absolutely, you asshole!"--Blanchett, on whether the Oscar will turn her into a diva.

And then she does little snappy things with her teeth. ^_^ They're showing it a lot on the tv over here. (Here being Australia. It's funny, they're showing the Oscars one one channel and the late-night news on the other, and the news is reporting on the Oscars before the Oscar has actually been given out on the other channel. So if I'd wanted to I could have found out who won best leading actor about... two minutes before it aired. If I hadn't already read Cleo's recaps. Which I had. So it didn't really matter anyway. ^^; )

I'm wondering that myself.

Am I the only one who thinks Beyonce singing songs from Phantom is WRONG?

I couldn't actually hear Josh Groban singing, because my brother immediately started talking about how much he hates him. Which, I may add, has no basis whatsoever. I dunno, I love Josh Groban, but I've heard him sing over the shrieks hundreds of teenage girls and be heard incedibly well.
Why was Beyonce there again?

Me thinks it's because the only movie I've ever known her to be in was Goldmember, so this was the only way they'd even let her in the building. "Can I come if I do all the songs for free? Pleeeeeeeeease?"

the poor guy will never live that down...
wish he pushed her off those stairs tho...
oh well... hopefully they learned their lesson and will have the actual singers preform their own songs!!!

and what the fuck was it with the aisle thing??? did they forgot the clips off the movies and got stuck as to what to do???

and the stage thing??? omg!!! it soo felt like pop idol or fame academy or one those other 'song' contests... oh blah!

anyway...
Thanks again lauren, for a brilliant recap and helpin us through one of the most boring oscar shows ever!

Mum got mad when I squealed about Andrew Lloyd Webber there. Told her I couldn't enjoy it because Beyonce was singing. Proceeded to make a sandwich.
