Okay, go read this article. The best parts are excerpted at SAST for you.

Now. "The three confirmed leads of the film are Tilda Swinton, Dawn French and Rupert Everett. Many familiar New Zealanders have been cast but that's a secret at the moment."

Okay, I don't know about you, but the only NZers I'm really familiar with are... from LOTR. I have high hopes for a Karl Urban appearance.

Also: Dawn French? This is the first I've heard of that. What's she going to play, Mrs. Beaver? (Everett is voicing the fox. Swinton, of course, is the White Witch.)

I do know quite a few from Xena, but a lot of them are interchangeable with LotR. Sam Neill and Russell Crowe are Kiwis also.

Should be interesting to see who they are.

Your icon is the best LOTR icon I've seen to date. Brilliant.

If you've ever watched any Xena or Hercules, you will probably also recognise them from there. Both series were filmed in New Zealand. Kiwi actors also pop up in a lot of movies filmed in Australia (eg The Matrix), and there were a few in the last two Star Wars episodes. Probably more familiar by sight than by name.

New Zealand: It's like Canada, in a way. What with the actor-recycling, at least.

If any Power Rangers show up in Narnia I will giggle a lot.

I had that problem with LOTR. Gorgeous scenery! Moving characters! Exciting plot! There I am, trying to stifle giggles and not disturb the other viewers, because half the cast of Shortland Street is mincing round the screen.

It's hard to take someone seriously when the last time you saw them on the screen, they were in the local equivalent of Days Of Our Lives.

Where is your icon from? I don't recognise the show, 'scuze my ignorance.

Icon is from Power Rangers Dino Thunder, actually. The joke is that the character, originally was sort of an absent-minded jock type. A few years later, he shows up with a haircut, glasses... and a doctorate in paleontology. Gotta love that lack of realism in children's shows! ;)

Also, the joke in New Zealand used to be that everyone in the country would have a part in Xena, because there weren't enough actors for all the bit parts. So you just had to wait till your turn was called and take a day off work.

Alas, I left the country before it was my turn.

I think Dawn French could be good as something like Mrs Beaver - but she needs to be stopped from using a comedy country accent (which is a strong possibility).....

ACK! I read Rupert Everett as Rupert Grint and thought "Ron's gonna be in another movie? COOL!"

i think the casting of rupert everett is really, really funny, considering the source of this film.

yes let's go Karl Urban! i used to only get to see him in xena and hercules reruns (and the price of milk) but now he's everywhere and I couldn't be happier. ::Sighs:: he's great.

and i'm familar with kiwi and aussie actors mostly cause of Sam RAimi's shows and shows like BEastmaster, Relic Hunter and whatnot. oh and the tribe. but yeah...

No, I don't think so--I think they're using a real lion, but I don't know about any voice casting.

Well, I may be able to swing R2 on one of the house computers. We'll see. :)

You know, I had never heard the name Rupert before Harry Potter, and now there are two Rupert's out there that I know of. It seems like such a strange name too...

Rupert is a very old English name. It's been out of fashion for about, ooh, 60 years, but appears to be making a comeback.

There used to be a very famous bear of that name. He wore tartan trousers. Bit of useless info for you there.

Hmmm.. I'm a NZer. I know lots of NZ actors. I'll be interested to see who is picked, so I can go "oh, that's *insert name here* from Shortland Street" (the world's most pathetic soap, yet sadly a training ground for our actors)

Well, Martin Henderson hasn't done too badly for himself, what with cavorting with Britney and all.

Poor old Martin. He moves all the way from NZ to Holly, finally starts getting parts over there, and suddenly all the big movies are being shot back in NZ. Kinda feel sorry for him.
