All right: I need your help. It's poll time.

The choices have been culled from that May 21 entry where I asked for big-movies-from-the-last-fifteen-years suggestions. I have narrowed it down rather whimsically to 25, and I want to get the final list down to ten.

These are by no means the only movies I will do in the future; actually, I have a lot of smaller (or not-so-small) movies I want to do. Let me assure you: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is the next one in the queue, with Underworld soon after (here’s hoping I can get them both done before Spider-Man 2 hits theaters). (I just hope I live long enough to do all of these, y’all. I’ll be eighty years old and still patiently pecking away on “Gigli in Fifteen Minutes,” I swear.) Pirates of the Caribbean is a looong shot to get in there, because—dammit, it all but parodies itself. For the same reason, comedies and Showgirls are out.

What I’m trying to do is get—well, think of it as an all-star blockbuster/Best Picture-type roster. So: check off the ones you want to see the most. Let’s say, choose ten (or fewer)—it’s not the most scientific thing in the world, so I don’t really care how many. I'm just trying to gauge general interest here.

(And those of you who know or have figured out the ultimate purpose of this list are kindly requested to shut it, plzkthnx. Don’t spoil the fun!)

Hmn. Some of my choices are not that popular. That's probably a good thing. I'll admit I am a little disenchanted with the number of people who want you to treat Potter and the hobbit films. I enjoy them and all, but I really think there's been a bit too much already on them. Still, I know you won't be able to resist the Rings films, so I'll just shut up and read.

I really think Titanic and the Star Wars flicks are crying out for it. ID4 was a bit jokey on its own, but there is still plenty to work with, I seem to remember.

Well, I'm not all that thrilled about stuff like Armageddon or Independence Day myself--but, you know, I'm working from the "ten blockbusters" premise, so I've got to see what I can do with it. I'd actually like to do some way older movies from the '30s and '40s, but I suspect there'd be a general outcry...

LOTR and The Matrix are probably way overdone by now. But Titanic and the Star Wars prequels are CRYING for mockage - a lot of people hated them, but no one has properly deflated them yet. As is "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (just because, y'know) and Armagedon (c'mon, it's about a ROCK). Also, although I failed to vote for it, Silece of the Lambs could be hilarious.

you've set yourself quite a task - but do keep in mind your own words - some movies parody themselves.

You mentioned POTC - it's a given every third line will be *scream of fangirls*

I know, cause I was there.

Some are way to easy - titanic
leo - what?
whatsherface - i love you despite that you're poor
leo - *handsome profile* - what?
blah blah blah
(oh look everyone, it's Kathy Bates!!! - and the peasants rejoice - a real actress!!)
leo, whatsherface - kiss
boat sinks
fade to black

there
feel free to use any of that

I watched the movie on fast forward, saw the whole thing in 20 minutes (cause I stopped for some costume pointers!)

trust me, no matter what you do, you will do it well and we will enjoy.

(ever thought of publishing your parodies?? Really, think about it.)

"Rose!"

Wah, hard to choose. I voted for the Matrix movies (all 9 of them), because in this bleak workaday world one can never have too much Keanu mockery and portentious mystical utterance mockery. And mockery of those who mock the French.

What a fine list of pisspoor films (except Silence of the Lambs, which I liked, but which nonetheless lends itself to parody, fava beans and all). Just seeing Braveheart and Dances with Wolves next to each other made my brain explode. But they almost parody themselves, so I didn't choose them. (It ought to be illegal to write the line, "My place is with you; where you go, I go.")

The movie I'd like to see on the list is Master and Commander, which for some reason was billed as an art-house film in commercial release. I guess because of the English accents and frilly shirts.

Also Kill Bill would be good.

But really, any of them is fine with me; thanks!

I know I know... a dim voice in the cacophany of your fanclub...

By all means do the first 2 Potter movies. Your treatment of PoA has risen even above Troy as your funniest m15m. There's no reason to think you couldn't work wonders with the other 2.

I think you are right on target with leaving LOTR and Matrix alone. Done, done and done to death. I know yours would be fabulous. That's not the point. Why reinvent the wheel? Go for something completely different.

Whoever *points up a number of replies* used the line "Rinse and Repeat" with regards to Titanic had me in absolute stitches...

I'm thinking Jurassic Park and the XMen movies have a lot of potential. I always did see a lot of innuendo in those. Especially in X2 and the scene with Logan and Bobby in the kitchen... y'know, cooling off the soda bottle? ;)

My $0.02:

Bram Stoker's Dracula (or however that should be italicized) is so bad melodramatic it screams for mockery. The Matrix is so dead serious it screams for mockery. Dances with Wolves and Braveheart are so earnest and wholesome they scream for mockery. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves had Kevin Costner's California/British accent, which was so bad it screams for mockery. The X-Men movies are both excellent and yet ripe for all manner of parody, so they scream out for mockery.

There have been a million LOTR parodies done already, as has been noted, so you don't really need to do them.

Except I love those movies and they parody well and you're so funny it would be totally cool plus I'm a total hor and I want to shag the entire Fellowship so write them anyway plzkthxbye.

I voted mainly for the massively overblown blockbusters that take themselves so pofaced seriously. Things like Armagedon and it's flag waving 'America saves the world. Again' deserve to be taken down a peg or two. Not that I don't enjoy them occasionally mind, just that I'd like to see more films like Lost in Translation get a chance at distribution.

I'm disappointed that Blade 2 didn't make it onto this list. Biggest pile of crap I've seen in a long time. Oh, except for Alien 4, which would be another excellent excuse for a parody.

I'm waiting for your Titanic iceberg to yell 'I Keeel You with my massiveness!'

I tend to think that the blockbusters lend themselves to parody more because of the overwrought DRAMA that they try to have (I'm just half-remembering the entire "Oh! The First Lady is DEAD!" bit from Independence Day and wincing), but it might also be amusing to pop in the occasional little-known movie -- if only to give people a reason to see it.

And, by the way, your 15-minute version of The Day After Tomorrow made it bearable when I actually went and saw it. And I can't wait for your version of LXG. It's the characters! But not! And then there's the plot! But it's not! Oh, and here's a guy who's pretty! Why is he in there? Shut up, he's pretty!
