I feel compelled to tell you a few things:
We have a new official reboot-from-the-beginning Spider-Man, and apparently he is an incredibly talented English actor who is... 27 years old. Behold: First Pictures of Andrew Garfield at the Spider-Man Press Announcement; How Old Will Andrew Garfield Be When the Next Spider-Man 3 Comes Out? Meanwhile,
swsa found this picture of Andrew Garfield with Robert Pattinson and--who is that? When in doubt, Tom Sturridge? Let me tell you, people, I think RPattz has finally been out-haired. And he looks like he knows it, too, in a smug "Yeah, you have fun being The Guy With The Hair now, hope you enjoy having it pulled out by the fistful" way. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS ON THAT KID'S HEAD. Animal, mineral, vegetable? Whatever it is, it is full of secrets.
"If any movie ever warranted a class-action lawsuit against the filmmakers, it’s The Last Airbender"; M. Night Shyamalan Finally Made A Comedy. "And then there's Shaun Toub, who stands out for the opposite reason: He's an honest-to-shit actual actor, and he looks as out of place as a zebra that's wandered into an alpaca farm. You can actually watch the realization dawn over Toub's face that nobody else is doing any acting in this film, but he soldiers on, dedicated to his craft in spite of everything. Toub, who's playing the uncle of Dev Patel's tormented Prince Zuko, is the real tragic hero of this movie, as you watch him struggle to cling to his dignity as everyone around him drowns in narrative sewage." I've also heard from a few people who have seen the movie, and they have told me that the movie is not as bad as you're hearing. It is worse.
First/international trailer for Let Me In. I still haven't seen Let the Right One In because I heard the initial Region 1 DVD release had really, really sloppy subtitles, and I wanted to wait until they corrected that. But now I don't know if they have, or if so, which DVD it is. But I really, really wanted to see it, and I'm still so pissed I couldn't make it to an early film festival showing here (here! In Birmingham!) back in the day.
Captain Jack Sparrow spotted on the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides set.
Meryl Streep To Play Margaret Thatcher. I saw another version of this story with a headline to the effect of, "Meryl Streep Nominates Self for Another Oscar."
Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo Cabret' Has a Huge Cast: "According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jude Law, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Frances de la Tour and Richard Griffiths have all joined Cabret. The cast already includes Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz and Helen McCrory."
Alice Eve in Talks to Play the X-Men's Emma Frost.
HBO's 'No One Dies in Lily Dale' to Feature Ghosts, Fabulous Caftans.
More importantly, EDWARD CULLEN CAT--
--HAS A HOME. THIS IS THE DANCE WE DANCE WHEN WE DANCE FOR RESCUED CATS. He hasn't been to it yet, but
snowcoma has been visiting him at the pet store and is finalizing the adoption process. A process I find a bit amazing, by the way, given that you could have gotten in and out of the store in ten minutes or less if you bought a cat off the shelf (uh. As it were). She says that Edward Cat is incredibly sweet, and that her mother is really looking forward to having him. And that she will take PICTURES for us. I cannot wait for happycat pictures, let me tell you.

Date: 2010-07-02 05:02 pm (UTC)Do you think M. Night managed to screw up that badly, or is this some kind of karmic balancing act to make up for the release of what appears to be a good Twilight movie?
Yay for emosparklekitteh finding a home!

Date: 2010-07-02 05:08 pm (UTC)I don't know what happened after Signs, but it was like, until that point, he was making movies that people felt strongly about either way, but at least held up on a certain level. The Village was where it started to fall apart, and it just snowballed downward from there. I seriously do not understand how each movie gets consistently worse. This is a guy who was nominated for an Oscar for best screenplay, whether he stole the story from "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" or not. Suddenly he stops being able to write dialogue on a line-by-line level? ("How's it going, tree?") I don't even know.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS ON THAT KID'S HEAD
It's a geyser of hair. Like that thing erupts from his head every 30 minutes. You can set your watch by it.

Date: 2010-07-02 05:07 pm (UTC)I will controversially say YAY to those On Stranger Tides pics, because I have realistic expectations for this movie and Johnny's clearly having fun, so eff it.
That second pic is still killing me. SAD PUPPY-KITTY EYES! :(

Date: 2010-07-02 05:12 pm (UTC)I honestly want to see Airbender at this point. Like, it's so bad, I've got to. But I don't want to give it money! But I don't want to steal it either! I guess excuse it on the grounds that a critic/parodist takes the bullet for others.
