So there was chocolate on Tuesday night (Lindt, even!), so September 1st turned out pretty well. No fights or explosions, either. Yesterday was okay, although I'm kind of tired and a little sick; I did come up with a brilliant idea to pay for the laptop (which I will reveal in good time). Today the antibiotic I'm on is upsetting my stomach a good bit (no, no yogurt in the house. But: chocolate! And Coke! Ooo, I should go get some Coke now). It's rainy and I'm tired to the point of nausea--I haven't been able to sleep due to Thermostat Wars. My kingdom is chilly no more--but I have the house to myself so I will flop, and then I will try to work some. Knock on wood, cross your fingers, etc.

OH ALSO I FORGOT: I need some cute stationery that won't cost me an arm and a leg. Blank cards for thank-yous or quick notes and also paper for letters, probably. Recs?

Best selection for thank you notes I've found are from Peter Pauper Press (http://www.peterpauper.com/sub_cat.php?cPath=22_118). I get my Thank You cards from them and not only do they go over very well, they are reasonably inexpensive. More so for you perhaps because you are not in Canada and the price markups we endure here.

Swiss chocolate makes everything better (I ate a whole bar of their milk filled chocolate when they threw everything out after Easter. I still have the cover. It has a duck with a basecap on.)

Check out etsy maybe? I checked the German equivalent to it for original-and-not-expensive wedding stationery and was not disappointed.

For stationary - my friend makes reclaimed paper stationary sets (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27846212). But if you want a cute set of blank cards or thank you cards on the super duper cheap... Target. I hate to say it, but yes. Target.

Target (http://www.target.com/gp/search/176-8172493-8193328?field-keywords=stationery&url=index%3Dtarget%26search-alias%3Dtgt-index&ref=sr_bx_1_1&x=0&y=0) has some really cute stationery that's inexpensive, and lots of time random stationery stuff winds up in the sale area at the end of an aisle.

My go-to stationery store is Papyrus (papyrusonline.com), and I tend to use either their store brand or Crane. You may or may not consider some of those as costing an arm and a leg, but I figured I'd throw it out there just in case. People's arms and legs come in different sizes.

I love Crane, but damn their stuff is pricy. Of course, it's all cotton, so you're getting what you pay for.

Love Papyrus. I bought a box of notecards from Mudlark there just last week.

(BTW, icon love!)

Papersource (http://www.paper-source.com) has lots of lovely stationery, and isn't terribly expensive. Lots of their stuff is letterpress, which I adore, and everything is made from nice paper.

I use michaels craft store. In the dollar section they have 8 0r 10 packs of blank or thank you note cards. Cheap, but they ofetn have some pretty cool designs.
I've got my Xmas cards from them as well. Instead of paying $10 a box, and needing at least 3 or 4, I can buy way more than I need for 5. I usually still get the nice cards for close family/friends, but the cheapies work awesome for keeping in touch with family I rarely talk/mail to.

Just go to Target. Cheap & cute - it's what they do best.

Or roll into A'mano (or whatever that store in Mountainbrook Village is called - next to the Rite Aid and Western Supermarket). They're pricier, but might have some unique cards that would appeal to you.

Check for cards at Target. I got 50 of them for about $10 and they've got a very nice (and subtle) design...

Cards

Hi Cleo, I actually make cards myself. You can check them out at www.flickr.com/photos/katimus. If you want I could mail you a batch, no problem. I've just started doing this and I already have soo many of them that I don't know what to do with them so I'm always happy to give some away to people who will appreciate them! I wouldn't want money or anything.

Looking back on this comment I realise how oddly creepy I sound. Seriously, I've got this total heap of cards and I'd just really like the thought of someone whose book I own using them, that's all.

The sparkle would rub off on them and the cards would angst quietly to themselves in the night.

I too must recommend Target. Cheap and simple, much like myself!

Also, just in case you haven't heard yet... Disney bought Marvel (http://trailer-spot.livejournal.com/217054.html).

For note cards I bought blank (wedding) invitations at Michaels: the kind that are a flat 5 x 7 card, with a design on the side or at the top. Then I bought a nice thank you stamp and ink that matched the design, and folded the cards in half. Viola: customized note cards. I think they looked really nice.

Get thee to the grocery store and get that yogurt! Or have someone pick it up for you if you can. It's so important when you're on antibiotics. Hoping for a settled stomach very soon!

I don't know if you have Hobby Lobby in your area, but they have a really cute (I'm debating over how to describe them...pretty? funky? sassy?) line of stationary and stuff out. It's by the party supplies and cards. And HL usually has a 40% off coupon that you can go get from their website so even cheaper!

Target, especially if there's something on the endcaps or in the dollar section. You can also score blank cards, paper, and envelopes cheap at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or scrapbooking stores. Horrible dollar stores, Tuesday Morning, and Big Lots often have discontinued stationery going cheap.

ALSO check the major craft blogs for tutorials on turning scrap into something neat. Junk mail and magazines can be turned into nifty envelopes (you'll need sticky labels for the addresses). Packaging can make fab postcards. One year we got a big, cheap baggie of watercolor paper cards and envelopes and went to town on it with paint, fabric, beads, wire, etc. and came up with awesomecakes sets of stationery for Christmas gifts.

I haven't read the previous post so forgive me if someone said this already. Here in MA we have a crafts store call Michaels. It's huge and wonderful and makes me want to be all crafty. Anywho.. They have this huge box of stationary for like $5 and I mean there is like 100 cards of different varieties in it . Perfect for thank you's and such and to top it off they are totally cute. So I don't know if you have a Michaels but I am sure any major craft store will carry it. Good luck!

It's European chocolate. Have you tried Cote D'Or? It's from Belgium and has this interesting fruity character that comes from roasting the beans more slowly and at a lower temperature. Not cheap but so much better than the bars of wax American companies try to pass off as chocolate. Even Hershey's from the Smith Falls, Ontario plant is a thousand percent better than American Hershey's.
