The new Alexander trailer's up--I'm loading it right now, so I haven't seen it yet. (Read: No word on Farrell-Leto action as of yet.)

Back. Okay, it's nothing but a lot of horses and armor and blond. (Does anyone want it screencapped? I seem to have a really good program for that.) And Val Kilmer is in this? When did I miss that memo?

ETA: Okay, I've gone back and screencapped the thing, if you're interested.

Actually, I paused the trailer there to check, and I'm pretty sure that's not Jolie. I don't think she's in the trailer at all--none of the other big names are, which is an interesting tactic.

Yeah, that's Rosario Dawson he's, uh, sucking face with. Angelina plays his mother. Apparently Val Kilmer gained 50 lbs to play his father. Needless to say I will be averting my eyes during his scenes and thinking of him in Willow.

That's right! I remember that now. The scene I heard about was Val Kilmer throwing Angelina Jolie down on the bed to do the nasty and--look! There's Alexander already in the bed! AHHHHH.

Just wanted to say, awesome Jem icons. Very much a 'hee!' moment. I remember watching the cartoon, and I think I've still got a book for it.

What exactly (or approximatly) do you do for a living?

Random question, but all right: I'm a grad student working on a couple of book proposals, which is why I'm able to be online at random times all day long. Nothing too gainful, except that I've had some good news lately that looks like some money might be on the way.

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude there. I was just wondering about all the movie stuff, that perhaps you were connected with the industry somehow.

Thank you for answering!

Hee, no. Sorry about that--I think that was the defensive "Yes, I'm getting a master's in writing and NO, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M GOING TO DO WITH IT!" bit talking. Basically: WILL WRITE FOR FOOD. There you have it.

The really strange thing is that I'm totally just some random girl in Alabama who likes movies. I have a second cousin who's a set decorator, but I don't hear from her much. My friend Vladimir has more entertainment connections in Croatia than I do--it's very sad. :)

And I'll go see it anyway.

Really, all I hear about this movie is the Farrell-Leto stuff. I think they're just going conservative with the teaser--studios tend to do that, and pull out the more interesting stuff for longer trailers where it has more context. There's hope yet.

Subject in purple?

He DID have 3 kids you know. They divvied up his empire and basically ruined it.

Greeks tend to have boys for fun and girls for kids. While I am sure many greeks loved their wives that seems to be the way it was.

I concur. ;)
Their conception of sexuality was different than ours, and I don't think calling them "gay" or "het" would be accurate at all, given that cultural difference (no offense meant to anyone of course!)

(BTW, here's a nice article (http://www.alanfildes.com/intimatecompanions.php) about Alexander's "intimate" relationships)

Val Kilmer was great in the Jackal. The movie wasn't that great itself, but he was dreamy...

Actually he kind of reminds me of Brad Pitt, just a little bit - or is it just me?

Hi, I liked the trailer, it looks good and for now it is just the teaser so we really can't guess at what the film will risk.
For now I'm going to get all hyper about it, you'd think I'd learned to not get hyper after Troy but no, here I go again, lol.
I'd love it if you could make some screencaps, that would be so cool, just so that I can get a better look, let me know.

Screencap away. ^.^

But after the Troy disapointment, I'm not expecting much from Alexander. Really just interested to see if CF can pull off the roll.

... You know, we must scare the hell out of actors.

I've only seen about 45 seconds of this film and already it's the greatest comedy ever made. The bad American/Macedonian accent, the troublesome bleach job, Rosario's "dance", horse vs. elephant, a box of hair weave sitting on Colin's head, enough hilarious helmetry to compete with Gondors Onionheads and the Trojan Man helmets. Plus the fact that I laughed out loud at least 3 times just during the teaser is enough to make this film a must see. This is going to be the funniest movie since Cold Mountain.

I'm going to ship horse vs. elephant.

However if there is the right amount of boysex I will not only see this movie but I will purchase the special collectors edition DVD and wear one of those helmets around town. Scouts honor on that. In fact the film doesn't even have to contain boysex, I will accept HoYay and a DVD loaded with boysex deleted/extended scenes. I'm not picky...

Wow, I have been slightly dreading and slightly anticipating this movie. On the one hand, I'm an avid Alexander the Great (FABulous) buff, and then again...Colin Farell, who I only liked in American Outlaws. Not only that but he has a mullet *pain* Though to clarify a few things: Rosario Dawson is Roxanne, Alexander did have a wife yet maintained a lover in Hephaestion. What I'm not hoping for is that they downplay the Alehep love in favor of Alexanne, because you know he loved him some Hephaestion...a lot. An animated series based on Alexander the Great has been released. It is called Reign: The Conquerer (http://geocities.com/alexhedran/main.html) and it is really good, even if it does play around with certain aspects. It plays up some of the Hoyay and plays down the Roxanne aspect. Plus, it has pretty animated men in codpieces (another liberty taken, but hey, it is Peter Chung. He who made Aeon Flux) which is a benifit. And it has a kick ass theme song.

But yeah, I kinda want to see it (Matinee, of course) so more than likely I will. Plus, it has Johnathan Rhys Meyers in it...and I'm terribly shallow.

I just saw the trailer for the first time, too. While I'm not sure what to make of Colin Farrell as Alexander (I'm officially reserving judgment), I have faith in Oliver Stone. He's not one to shy away from portraying homosexuality or other controversial topics on the screen. Surely Alexander won't have a "cousin" the way Achilles did.

And hey, if this version blows, we still have Baz Lurhman's version, coming next year. :)

The last I heard about that one, Luhrmann really didn't seem to have a lot of hope that he'd get it made. This may be what we're stuck with.

Yes, ma'am...Val Kilmer in this. Apparently Colin was partying with him in Thailand and got fuckin' bombed and fell down some steps, busted his arse up and yeah. Then got wheeled out of the hotel in his trunks by some hottie tottie Thail hotel attendant...shirtless, Oirish and all. Lol. Thanks for the screencaps. I'm already looking forward to "Alexander in Fifteen Minutes."
