Vladimir has just seen The Day After Tomorrow. An excerpt from his review:

Point three: With this caveat, The Day After Tomorrow is not only the best Emmerich movie ever, but the best disaster movie of all time. (Sorry, Ernest.)

It's horrifying. It's engrossing. And it's spectacular. No, scratch that last one: it's OMG INCREDIBLE SQUEEEE *faint*. The work done by multiple effects houses here may not be entirely photoreal, but is never less than convincing - and what work it is. From concept to execution, this is what I call special effects. Big, bold, so grandiose that even the most jaded filmgoers will find themselves gasping in sheer astonishment. And, this time, there is an actual story.

Yay! I love this. I need a non-horrible, engrossing Hollywood movie. I'm seeing it tomorrow, and I hope I react similarly.

My husband keeps making fun of TDAT, after reading this entry, we just might go see it.

Since I don't know if I can even leave a reply on Vladimir's blog, I'll just leave one here for you, and maybe for him, if he gets this, I dunno how.

It was an extremely witty and interesting review, I must say it's piqued my curiosity very much! Originally I had decided that TDAT will probably be cheesy to the extreme and I don't want to go. Now, it's the exact opposite. I'm dying for it to come out, I need to see it. I know what to expect now, and hopefully I'll be of the same opinin later on, because damn, if what he says is true, then I'd miss out on a helluva lot if I didn't see it.

Oh, and the "Cleo"-mention in his review... *wink wink* I liked that! Hahaha! :P

Oh, thanks a million. It was good being able to write something -for my own blog- for Cleo to link to. Glad you liked it, too. As I'm, after all, a professional film critic, I do get to see quite a few press screenings, and if the movie happens to have a day-and-date global release, then I'm as privileged as the next -guy- girl. Anyway, you might want to check out the tons of reviews I did at the Venice and Gothenburg film festivals, if I may be so bold as to make a suggestion. 'Tis all on the blog.

Anyway, I'm -using- currently hogging LJ just for my LiveNovel thing, and don't have a LJ of my own as me, so I don't get to participate on Cleo's boards as a normal squishy should. Hence no strikethrough font etc. Am bad that way.

Hahaha, wow, you're fast!! Nice to meet you, I've heard quite a lot about you! LOL

You're a professional film critic? Wow, that's great!! I can tell from the intellectual way you write that you're really good at it, and you proabbly enjoy it too! :) Of course I'm going to go read your other reviews, and if time allows I'll reply to them too!

Lucky about being able to see the press screenings! That must be fun! Always in on the fresh scoop...

Oh, I learned some time ago that you don't need to be an LJ user to have the fonts and all... it's just HTML code (I think) so if you put
< strike > (without the spaces) before a word and </ strike> after it, it will strike out your word... same for ... </ b> for bold, i for italics, etc... :)

You need to get an LJ! Go on, don't be afraid! ;) Hehehe, hope you do!!

*prods you to get an LJ*

You must! Hahaha, Cleo is a prophet or something... oh, lol, for the strike thing, it's "< and >", not "[ and ]"... lol, my instructions kept getting screwed up. Try again! lol

*prods you again*

Am waiting for your LJ. *prod* Please hurry. *prod* Do not make me wait. *prod* ;)

Wow, I screwed up the instructions for the strike and stuff.
When you want a ceratin word to look different, put *whatever word/phrase you want*.
Here are the symbols:
"strike" for the dtrike through
"i" for italics
"b" for bold
... etc

And Cleo said, ten minutes ago, "You realize that everyone's going to demand that you get a real LJ."

And lo! It was as Cleo hath spoken. And then they went to the house of Belshazar and slaughtered the Sheep of Beth Shebeb.

It's nice to meet you too :) Keep on prodding, I might bow down to you and Cleo's combined pressure. I've had a block for the last month as far as my LiveNovel is concerned, anyhoo.

It keeps eating up bits of my instruction!! LOL so, if you want to strike something, write

< strike > instert word here < / strike >

And just delete all the spaces I put in there... I hope this comes out right. You can replace "strike" with "b", "i", etc.

Awwww. You beat me to it. And I just gave Cleo grief over deleting my comment so that I can do the strikethrough thing properly. Serves me right for not having own LJ and being easily embarrassed. Also ruined a perfectly good Python reference, too.

Thanks for the tutorial! *bowing to pressure, albeit slowly*

LOL, I got lost there... you mean I didn't see the comment Cleo deleted? Because I think I did, since the moment you hit "REply", the comment goes to my e-mail. Cleo might have deleted it on LJ, but it still got to me... so no worries! :)

Welcome aboard, fellow Monty Python lover! WoOt! Hehehe, I love those guys...

LOL, no problem about the tutorial, though I seem to have cuased myself more trouble then necessary with three consecutive posts than were all wrong... LOL

*prods you* If I keep bothering you, maybe you'll get an LJ... ;) *nugde nudge, prod prod*

*WHEW* OK. Last thing. I'm bombarding you with comments and you might not even get them since these won't get to you (you're Anonymous)...

I've just gone through your LiveNovel and I must say I really enjoyed reading the reviews! I like how they're worded and give really good, constructive reasons for why the movie is worth seeing, or may not be so good. Definitely better than some people's reviews! No wonder you're a pro!

*Fatherly voice* Cleo chose well... ;) Hehehe.

Hullo! No, I get all the comments fine, except for the part where I went to this Russian Disco party downtown tonight which every single layabout metrosexual hardworking writer and reviewer attended too, making the place unbearably crowded and suffocating. And I got a few beers in me and didn't actually have internet access for a few hours. So yeah, sorry for the delay, it'll be okay once I sleep it off. Anyway.

I just got a press book for Shrek 2 in my inbox, so I suppose a press screening will be any day now, and therefore it will be released in a week or two. You live in Poland, though? Or someone you know? Uh - that's EU now, so they should get it at least as soon as we in Croatia. I don't think I'll bother writing it up, seeing as how it draws more crowds than LOTR, and is probably even more derivative and pandering than the first one. I still can't get over the fact that Boo's First Movie lost out to Shrek at the Oscars, so yeah, I'm not looking forward to it. Then again, a repeat performance of my Day After Tomorrow experience is eminently possible.

And yeah, Cleo has impeccable taste. She didn't want me to buy her that SideShow WETA Grishnakh bust, for example... Or Shelob. Go figure.

So, in the meanwhile, I'll bide my time by translating Tolkien, as usual. Thanks for liking my LiveNovel reviews. :)

Hahaha, I see you're enjoying yourself! Good for you! LOL, I have yet to see a metrosexual, though I've heard quite a lot!

Yes, I live in Poland and I heard Shrek 2 was going to come out in July!! And I don't see how the EU is gonne help us with that, so far our govenrment has been giving them hell! lol Ah well, at least the prices of tickets went down... and other such goodies, like DVD players... *cough* lol So shallow, I know...

She didn't want a Grishnakh bust? Oh, come ON Cleo, "what were you thinking? You stupid stupid hor!" LOL Your won words, don't kill me, Cleo!!! :P

Haha, must be fun translating Tolkien!! Good luck and God speed!! Hehehe

Come to think of it, we do have this weird PJ-Fran-Philippa relationship going here, Shock. Although instead of "Stop him, Fran! Stop him!" you keep going "Prod him, Cleo! Prod him!"

I am going to see it, but when a movie boldly proclaims its heritage as being "from the director of Independance Day," I don't walk into the theater expecting to be bombarded by quality story-telling.

Yeah, that's kind of my fear. My mom *loves* her some disaster movies, so I'm getting dragged to it. The review just makes me feel a little better about going, I guess.

Thanks for posting this. I was already planning on seeing it, because when it comes to disaster movies I CANNOT. STAY. AWAY. However, I'm hoping that the link will convince some of my friends to come with me now. :D

I'm the same way :) Love me the cheesy disaster movies. I recorded 10.5 off NBC a few weeks ago, even though the producer was quoted in an article I read as saying "No scientists were consulted in the making of this movie - we did all the research on the internet." :)

My friend Alexandros knows the girl's cousin... six degrees of separation, what?

You->Me->Alexandros->Brandon->Girl in movie->Roland Emmerich

Congrats! You're connected to Roland Emmerich!

Or if you prefer, we could connect you with Jake Gyllenhaal instead. :o)

Actually he does. And then Emmy Rossum gives him a full body heat treatment. After which he dresses up to look like a Moldavian beggar woman. *enjoy*
