... well, you know who they come to.

You know who they haven't come to yet? This guy (as my sister would say). We called Best Buy. The laptop was supposed to come in today (and bless those of y'all who actually remembered that it was supposed to come in today). Apparently it's on a truck somewhere (and not a UPS truck, because the Brown SWAT would sort that shit out for me with a quickness) and it won't be in until Wednesday. My mother was indignant. I was completely unsurprised. And we can't go get another one, because we've already paid for this one and our warranty/service whatever is specifically attached to the serial number hoodoo on this particular machine. I just shrugged and went on my non-computer-owning way.

I am completely over a lot of things summer, by the way. Mostly, it rained. And what did it rain? Drama. Besides, I tend to consider May in Alabama as being "summer"--it's not like I have any school to get in or out of, so it doesn't make any difference to me--so I've already had my full three months and then some. Summer is so five minutes ago. I am moving on to The Burnt Orange Season. Halloween, specifically. If stores can put up the Christmas displays at 9 pm, October 31st (and I actually witnessed this once), I can start gearing up for Halloween now. It'll help me get back into a Black Ribbon mood anyway.

(As a sidenote, I can't wait for the day that freakin' book is finally on a freakin' shelf and y'all can go, "My God, she went on about this thing on Livejournal for SIX YEARS." Actually, if I woke up and found out that elves had finished writing it for me in the night, the future publishing process would make it more like seven years. Oh, number seven, you so auspicious. And crazy.)

Ooh, yes. I am so looking forward to fall. I am okay with summer ending soon. I don't want time to speed up, but I will be very happy when fall gets here. :)

If it makes you feel better, I went to a Yankee Candle store yesterday, and they have their Halloween display up. It was very disconcerting to see ghosts and black metal trees and such, since it's a million squillion degrees outside. Halloween is so far away!

I am mainly excited for the return of pumpkin-flavored things. :) I am a huge fan of pumpkin. Also, it means that apple-picking season will soon be upon us, and that's always cause for celebration.

I was in Montgomery last week, and I can understand why you would say that, as August in Alabama is much more like "Hell on Earth" than a season.

As much as I love Halloween, we JUST got summer here. Stupid New England. But on Stores with Holiday Decorations Way Too Early, we went to Michael's back in July and they already had all their Halloween stuff out. I don't mind when it's any holiday but Christmas.

I've been planning my Halloween costume (Graverobber from Repo!) for over a month now, even though kids are still on summer vacation here. Bring on the The Burnt Orange!

Oh, but they're so behind the times! Last year I saw a Macys (IIRC) that skipped Halloween and Thanksgiving altogether, putting up Christmas decorations in mid-October. It's never too early, apparently, which gives this Jew no end of joy. And by "joy" I mean "impotent resentment."

Oh, Halloween. I have no idea what I'm DOING this year but I'm operating under the assumption that it will involve more makeup than costumery because my dorm? Didn't have space for my Absurd Garmentry.

They've already started putting up the Halloween stuff at the local Michaels and Joann's. I can't wait to see what Target has planned for this year.

Yay! We're excited for that day too! But, you know, whenever. No pressure. Lord knows, it's not like I'm innocent of procrastination or extremely serpentine routes to my goals or anything.

Speaking of actually supporting you monetarily, I think I've lost the copy of your book I got waaay back when it first came out, so... time for the paperback! Because as soon as I buy the paperback, I'll find the hardback. I've misplaced it at some point in my move to California. At least amazon.uk is hella fast.

Regardless of what trucking line it's on, it should have a tracking number and Best Buy should be able to provide you with both that number and the contact information for the truck that it's on.

At least that way you'd be able to find out if it actually is on that truck. :)

I have to say, in all seriousness, you are taking this so much better than I ever would.

I understand though - it's either laugh or cry at this point, right?

And all this talk of Halloween is about the only thing that could drag me to a mall. I guess the over-cranked air conditioning (I wear a sweater at work because of this sort of thing) would add to the mood.

Summer is not my favorite season -

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, which is exciting. I hate when it falls on a Wednesday or something and it's like, "Oh, yay! Costumes and candy and--oh, look. I have to go to bed because I need to be up for work in six hours."

I know how you feel about the book thing. I had a book idea in my head for 57437892389 years, and I finally wrote the damn thing and now all I want in the world is to get it published (super hard) so I can see it on a shelf and feel vindicated about life.
Note: If you wrote a fiction book and it was published in the US, I'd be all over buying that.

Also - Black Ribbon? The other volumes will be published all that much faster. The difficult part is rolling the boulder up the hill....right?

I can explain what happened to your laptop:

The truck carrying your laptop was hijacked by kittehs. http://icanhascheezburger.com/2009/08/17/funny-pictures-order-cheeseburgers/
Better buy up some cheeseburgers if you want to meet their demands.

The Halloween warehouse stores are already open in my neighborhood! I'm so excited for the Shoppening! Except that the skeleton-guy-logo does actually freak me out just a little bit. I'm nearly 30 and I still get the heebie-jeebies from a store logo. ::hangs head in shame::

Trek back into Hobby Lobby. The ones here are already putting up Christmas stuff.

I think Michael's is as well but I'm not sure. As I type this I just realized that Hobby Lobby doesn't have any Halloween stuff and Michael's does.
