Compocalypse '09: The Return

This is just a quick note to say that I did take Camille back to Best Buy and exchanged her for Camille 1.2 with absolutely no problem at all. I had this entire spiel prepared about how if I couldn't even get the OS to boot then even if they fixed it I couldn't really trust the computer to not have any other problems, but I got about halfway through and the guy at the Geek Squad just waves his hand and goes, "Yeah, no, you don't need to deal with that." And they exchanged us for another CM 5570 without a peep, didn't think of some mystery fee to charge us, transferred the service plan over to that serial number and everything. And while I was there, I picked up that 1TB hard drive as well. I haven't hooked Camille 1.2 up yet just because I was like, "I gotta eat first. My low blood sugar is not dealing with this." And now I've stopped by to report on this last visit, but I'm about to go upstairs and deal with it because if C1.2 is also going to be fussy, I need to know it now.
Also, regarding the last entry--I really don't have anything against Macs or Mac users. The PC/Mac thing is a pretty personal issue (God knows why), and whichever one works for you, God bless. The first computer I ever really worked on (that wasn't, you know, some ancient rudimentary DOS-run thing in my high school typing class) was a Mac at an internship I had before college, and I really just didn't like it. I've used PCs ever since; they're more affordable for me and I understand how to use them better.
But whichever side of the divide you're on, if you want to get rude with me? Yeah. You are really not welcome here.

Date: 2009-08-10 06:55 pm (UTC)I love my Mac with a burning passion, but when someone is in trouble, it's not the time to say "I told you so." The only appropriate responses are "oh, I'm so sorry," and "how can I help?"
Anyway, here's hoping all the drama is behind you now!

Date: 2009-08-10 06:57 pm (UTC)And yeah, I completely understand where you're coming from. I respect Macs and Mac users, and am simply a PC guy myself. Same thing goes with the whole Firefox/Internet Explorer debate, and the XP/Vista debate.
I use IE. I like Vista; it runs just fine for me. I have many friends who use Firefox and prefer XP, and I get that, I really do. They also respect me enough to not get in my face about it.
All too often, when I've mentioned to people that I use IE, I get a slew of "IE SUCKS YOU SUCK USE FIREFOX YOU SUCKY PERSON". It's rude, and really doesn't make me want to agree with them. If I wanted to be prosletyzed at, I'd go to church.
(Sidebar: I keep hearing about how XP is way better than Vista and that Vista sucks, but nobody has ever been able to explain to me why this is the case. I'd really be interested to know, but I can't ever seem to get any answers aside from "YOU ARE SO STUPID WHY ARE YOU USING VISTA".)

Date: 2009-08-10 07:01 pm (UTC)The first computer the hubby and I had was an old Apple he grew up with.
Heh.
I have nothing against Macs, I just know my way around PCs way better.}:P And I find that when it comes to technology, I'm better off sticking with what I know, otherwise, I get so frustrated that I break things. Seriously.

Date: 2009-08-10 07:06 pm (UTC)And no, I don't understand why people even want to get rude with you. WTF. You're one of the nicest net people I don't really know, if you know what I mean.
OMG YOU GUYS BE NICE TO CLEO

Date: 2009-08-10 07:12 pm (UTC)(We had a county-wide Tax Free Weekend this past... uh... weekend, and the BB guy said they sold 700 computers. He was seriously just like, "I am so tired. We all are. Just take it. Whatever. I don't care." So that might have had something to do with it.)

Date: 2009-08-10 07:28 pm (UTC)Now I'm rather anti-PC and pro-Mac. However, in the end they both have their own strengths and weaknesses so, as you say, it's a very individual thing.
For one thing I find it's a bit easier to upgrade a PC than a Mac because you can practically gut it and rearrange everything if you so choose. Macs don't really work that way...

Date: 2009-08-10 07:31 pm (UTC)You know ā I take that back. I'm not embarrassed. There are stupid people in all sectors. All us normal polite Mac users disown the stupids. (I would also like to disown the Christian stupids, the pet-owning stupids, the knitting stupids, the organic-eating stupids, and all the stupids who are fans of books and movies I also fan.)

Date: 2009-08-10 07:36 pm (UTC)Dude, it's just a computer. How is it life-threatening to like a Mac vs. a PC or the other way around? IT DOESN'T, THAT'S HOW. The world will not explode because we are not unified in our computer preferences. ]:

Date: 2009-08-10 07:43 pm (UTC)I hope you will like Vista okay. I did not notice very many substantial changes except for what they did to the new Office Suite. But even that eventually smoothed out for me. And if you have the processing power, Vista can be very pretty.

Date: 2009-08-10 07:45 pm (UTC)I'm also a PC lover. We had Macs at my high school and they were a pain whenever we had to save Word documents. A lot of dragging the document around to folders instead of directly saving it, if I remember correctly.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-10 07:57 pm (UTC)Whoa, really? That shouldn't have happened. You can save a document anywhere you want on a Mac, same as you can on a PC. How weird. Anyway, if you're happy on a PC, that's awesome. More Macs for me! ;)

Date: 2009-08-10 07:46 pm (UTC)I've had the temptation to build my own--and I mean, literally, build it, because after owning a Tandy for 5 years back in the '90s, I fear no motherboard or OS. ::ahem:: However, I love the fact that Dells come to me nicely put together, with software installed, and all I have to do is connect cables and press a button.
As far as Macs/PCs go, I could be happy with either one. The first computer I learned to use was an Apple IIc. My first PC was a Tandy. I've owned PCs ever since, most of them Dells. But I will not get into a pissing match over which system is best.
I'll probably get a Dell or a Lenovo--but either way, my next computer will not only be an all-in-one, it will be able to do everything but fly. :)

Date: 2009-08-10 08:06 pm (UTC)Computer problems suck. Definitely. Spyware got on my fianceƩ's mother's computer and it was in the shop a good month, getting it wiped, saving some files, trashing others, getting the malware off, blah blah blah. And it's still friggin' slow to this day. And now loud. Dunno what's up with that.

Date: 2009-08-10 08:10 pm (UTC)What is it with Mac snobs? It's like those websites which sneer at you that they only display properly in Firefox, not in Internet Explorer.
Very glad you got it replaced so easily.

Date: 2009-08-10 08:28 pm (UTC)To echo a previous poster, I'm sure the Shelfians are concerned about this entire matter.
