Since people are already emailing me

Ah, we finally have an image for the Comic-Con exclusive Tonner Edward, courtesy of the Tonner email newsletter that I subscribe to religiously:

The hair is rather meek, and for a full $129 I wish it had more accessories than "a shirt,"* but it does seem to have the black eyes to indicate "hunger" (~*EXCITING VARIATION!*~), and I have to say? This is the least horrifying/most accurate product image of the character that they've put up yet. I mean, compared to my doll's prototype pictures.

* YOU'RE KILLING ME HERE, PEOPLE. IT'S THE SAME DOLL, EXCEPT THIS TIME IT'S DEPRESSED. IT HAS LESS STUFF THAN THE FIRST ONE; IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A JACKET. YOU CAN'T THROW IN SOME EXTRA CLOTHES? A SPARKLE VENEER? A TINY MOUNTAIN LION? COME ON.

I mention this specifically just to let y'all know not to worry about trying to get one for me (as I'd previously asked--for someone to snag one at the convention, and I would have paid them back). I'd like to get one, but I think I'm going to get my bargain hunter on and go to eBay after the convention. Besides, like I said last time, no one would have any way of knowing who else might or might not have snagged one, and I'd end up with seven Edward v2s WHO HAVE NO ACCESSORIES and no way to pay everyone back.

Also: WHOA BLACK CANARY. They really need to lay off using the Lara Croft body (literally, that is the Lara Croft body sculpt) on every single flippin' DC doll.

Geez Louise! I thought it would have more stuff! Oh no. :/

Black Canary looks like Tori Spelling in that pic...at least the face does.

[identity profile] misachan.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Dinah. I feel compelled to make a "huge tracts of land" comment.

(Seriously, she looks like she shouldn't be able to stand. Especially not in the heels Canary wears!)

minimalist-ward

Does he at least sparkle? I could forgive some vampy add-ons for a little sparkle motion.

Black canary? I thought that was Rosalie.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I mean, I knew it wouldn't. That's the same description they originally put out, and, I mean... that's what the outfit looks like in the movie. That's why I wanted to see a picture, in case it was just somehow unspeakably awesome in ways I could not foresee. But it pretty much looks exactly like what I thought it would. Except that its hair is extra sad. : (

I have no interest in ever owning a Twilight doll, but I would buy an Edward in a second if it came with a tiny mountain lion. Perhaps with a bit of removable neck...like those Jurassic Park toys from a while ago that had "battle damage"?

And Black Canary. Wow. She's got huge...boots.

Nope, no sparkle. I have heard there might be a sparkle holiday exclusive, though.

That Black Canary doll is horrifying.

[identity profile] shadwing.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
MOST of Tonner's DC Ladies are horrifying! Did you see that Catwoman? UGH!

[identity profile] life-on-queen.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, COME ON, PPL! Black Canary is supposed to be a master martial artist - how can you do a spin kick in a push-up bra?! One turn and you'd pop out and beat yourself unconscious with your own boob! Think, ppl, think!

[identity profile] bienegold.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They really can't manage anything with a cowl, can they? (That's also one of my least favorite Catwoman costumes ever. I don't care if it's classic.)

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, if you hadn't SAID that was Black Canary, even the fishnets wouldn't have clued me in.

[identity profile] door.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He's so plain! Just get another Regularward and paint his eyes black.

[identity profile] shadwing.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It was also the easiest to reproduce in doll scale I bet, but would it have killed them to use Royal Purple and not Lavender?

I've notices most the chars they do either have no-masks or cowls...come on Tonner! If DC Direct can have their dolls with removable dominio masks and make them look fantastic so can you!

[identity profile] shadwing.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially since, in the comics at least, Canary abandoned the strapless bodysuit ages ago and wears a much more senceable (yet still stylishly sexy) high necked and sleeveless version.

Sigh...that get up looks like something she'd wear in the bedroom for playtime with Ollie...

[identity profile] elizardbits.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
OHNOES I CAN'T UNSEE IT NOW.

[identity profile] calatha.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not seeing much of a resemblance to RPattz there.

[identity profile] life-on-queen.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
that get up looks like something she'd wear in the bedroom for playtime with Ollie...

And not that there's anything wrong with a "Sexy Bedroom Playtime" Edition Black Canary figure but they should actually call it the "Sexy Bedroom Playtime Edition Black Canary" figure and stop pretending like that doll is in any way supposed to represent a trained martial artist and crimefighter. *nods*

;)

And that's why [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily had a tag called "boobs don't work that way". Just another day in the life for mainstream comics.

[identity profile] ccr1138.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, the least they could do is give him a nice, big ... ahem ... *cough* ... well, SOMETHING to indicate the "hunger" aspect. [g]

[identity profile] life-on-queen.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed (lol).

I once got a 10 per cent discount at a comic shop because my comment that Lady Deathstroke's outfit was both gravitationally and anatomically improbably made the guy laugh. /nerdtales

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You get it more in profile, or at least on mine you do. Like, to the point where I was slightly weirded out.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, all jokes aside, that's what the black eyes are supposed to indicate.

[identity profile] adelledae.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
so, would you be adding him in as a secret doll cast member eventually or just for your personal collection?

Please get a tiny Locke doll running around your shelf! hahaha, I can only imagine/hope...

[identity profile] megalosaurus.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
the description is TERRIFYING. "EDWARD must fight his insatiable thirst for BELLA, no matter how Hungry he gets." capital H on hungry, even!

at least he has a...giant leather wrist...thing?
