Since people are already emailing me

Ah, we finally have an image for the Comic-Con exclusive Tonner Edward, courtesy of the Tonner email newsletter that I subscribe to religiously:

The hair is rather meek, and for a full $129 I wish it had more accessories than "a shirt,"* but it does seem to have the black eyes to indicate "hunger" (~*EXCITING VARIATION!*~), and I have to say? This is the least horrifying/most accurate product image of the character that they've put up yet. I mean, compared to my doll's prototype pictures.

* YOU'RE KILLING ME HERE, PEOPLE. IT'S THE SAME DOLL, EXCEPT THIS TIME IT'S DEPRESSED. IT HAS LESS STUFF THAN THE FIRST ONE; IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A JACKET. YOU CAN'T THROW IN SOME EXTRA CLOTHES? A SPARKLE VENEER? A TINY MOUNTAIN LION? COME ON.

I mention this specifically just to let y'all know not to worry about trying to get one for me (as I'd previously asked--for someone to snag one at the convention, and I would have paid them back). I'd like to get one, but I think I'm going to get my bargain hunter on and go to eBay after the convention. Besides, like I said last time, no one would have any way of knowing who else might or might not have snagged one, and I'd end up with seven Edward v2s WHO HAVE NO ACCESSORIES and no way to pay everyone back.

Also: WHOA BLACK CANARY. They really need to lay off using the Lara Croft body (literally, that is the Lara Croft body sculpt) on every single flippin' DC doll.

HA! I like your idea better.

[identity profile] nicolars.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
D'oh! I can't believe I don't remember that, since he wears it in the cafeteria scene.

[identity profile] anonymeet.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I saw "Hungry, Edward" and thought Hungry Eyes - which I guess kind of makes sense - and now the song is in my head and as it turns out, the lyrics kinda work too . .

Also, is it me or does Hungry Eyes Edward have unnaturally long legs? He looks a little - out of proportion to me.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I just love it because the all-black looks SO INCREDIBLY EMO next to the other Cullens. Nicely played there. I think he's also wearing something similarly dark in that first biology class scene, the one with the GIANT OWL WINGS behind him.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Original Flavor Edward does too. Honestly, I think all the Tonners' legs are a bit too long and/or thin, proportionally. Which is okay on a girl, because we're so used to exaggerated body shapes on female dolls, but on a male doll? Looks kind of strange.

um. so I had to:

Oh my god, this cracks me up for some reason. Has the era of the strongly-worded letter given way to the well-filmed Youtube video? o_O

[identity profile] anonymeet.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I can't decide whether I'm comforted by that or disturbed.

On the one hand, the male dolls are out of whack, too. But long skinny legs on a male doll just makes it look like beanpoles.

While the girl dolls are out of whack - in a way that makes them look like porn stars.

And it makes me a little sad that we have become inured to seeing impossible shapes on female dolls. I don't even see those occasional outraged OMG A REAL WOMAN WITH THOSE PROPORTIONS WOULD SNAP IN HALF articles anymore.

Black Canary does not wear thigh high boots!

THAT DOLL IS OUT OF CONTINUITY!!!

Too bad they don't just offer interchangeable heads (although a disembodied one might show up on ebay).

Cool. Thanks!

For that price, you should also be able to get Strategically Place Taxidermy Owl.

[identity profile] soleta-nf.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Its hair is definitely not on fangirl alert.

Edited for major grammatical error. D'oh.

Ooh, yes!

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, that's kind of astonishing.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I couldn't commit to buying a Barbie Uhura for just that reason--chopstick limbs--and then a 12" action figure by another company was announced and I was like SCREW YOU MATTEL! GLAD I WAITED! So it does matter to some of us.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW RIGHT? GAH.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I gotta say? It's kind of growing on me, the doll in general. I mean, it's still not $129 worth of grow, but it just looks so... pale and forlorn. It needs to be rescued and given a hair tuneup before it's abducted by a roving band of mimes or something.

[identity profile] megalosaurus.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
it's kind of mesmerizing, isn't it?

[identity profile] duosiceprincess.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
That Black Canary doll is scary and stupid-looking. Leather doesn't shine like vinyl people! Stop making stupid dolls! Blech. I wish they'd given her the kicky ponytail she was wearing for a while in the comics. THAT was a Dinah you could get behind. Flat-soled boots and the hair that says, "I'm here to make you bleed."

[identity profile] lunanyteskye.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've been staring at that for the last ten minutes now. Must wake up.

You could take over the world with an icon like that.

Icon love! I have to admit it took me a second to figure out the last word! And then I DIED.

Hooker Canary!

I've got that song in my head too, from looking at 'Hungry, Edward'. OMG, HE'S EVEN DRESSED LIKE THE SWAYZE.
