www.jkrowling.com: A really lovely piece of web design, IMO. My favorite part: "A few weeks ago I did something I've never done before and took a stroll into a Harry Potter chat room: specifically, MuggleNet's chat room. Although I was concerned to find that many of the moderators feel their spiritual home is Slytherin, this is a great site. Nobody was remotely interested in my theories about what's going to happen in book seven, though." Check out the Rumors section for assurance that neither Dumbledore nor Voldemort are related to Harry (and for an ad about charming your own cheese).

ETA: Pick your flag/country/language, and that'll take you to a pop-up flash site. Failing that, go here: http://www.jkrowling.com/en/thankyou.cfm

Also, check out SAST for a bit on the POA premiere.

I love reading about creators looking over the message boards devoted to them and their work, although I think that if I was Rowling, I'd be a little concerned with how nuts most of my fanbase can be.

See, that's why my first reaction to the site was, "Good God, JK's a brave woman."

I love the JKR site muchly. My only quibble is that I feel bad for any fans without a high speed connection. Even with my T1 here at work, it seems to take awhile for stuff to load up.

There is text-only version (http://www.jkrowling.com/textonly/welcome.cfm). Very fast and functional, a bit on the old-school side of web design, but much more usable than its flash counterpart in my opinion.

The flash version is a beautiful piece of eye candy, but it's very bloated, and a bit of a navigational nightmare. Also, any site that opens a new window automatically loses most -- if not all -- of its "cool" points in my book.

Yeah, I really dislike the new window thing. Because, you know, it's impossible to have a bunch of Flash on a regular web page. (Sigh.) And every single official movie site out there has to do that. Gah.

<pimping class="Mozilla zealot">
Web sites opening new windows are one of the reasons I browse with Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/). There's an option that forbids normal links to open new windows. As for Javascript/Java/Flash links, the Tabbrowser extension (http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/#tbe) offers (among other benefits) the possibility to never ever open any unrequested windows (actually, I set it to the stricter option that disable new windows entirely), though it can result in a new tab opening. That was the case with JKR's flashsite. Still a bit annoying, but less so.

This is the Rowling site (http://www.jkrowling.com/) right? There's nothing much on there except for the links to the publishers' websites. I couldn't find all those juicy stuff in your post.

There is no language selection option on the site. Oh well.

[livejournal.com profile] noblerot saw PoA and wrote a little review (http://www.livejournal.com/users/noblerot/14191.html#cutid1).

See comment from eeyorerin below. Seems to have worked for me! And wow, it is a lovely site.

Neither eeyorerin nor Cleo's link is working for me. It's okay, the website is new, I suppose there are still glitches to be ironed out. I can wait.

Dude, that is so weird. Have you tried http://www.jkrowling.com/en/thankyou.cfm and then "Re-enter Site"?

From: [identity profile] la-sonnambula.livejournal.com
I tried that too, and I got a "The page cannot be found". It's alright, I'll just wait.

I'm glad you like the review. :)

Am I just being exceptionally dense? (Answer: probably). All I can see is a list of worldwide publishers. As exciting as that is, I'd rather see the rumours section...

Some people have been reporting that problem with hitting the .com version of the site. I've heard that if you go to http://www.jkrowling.co.uk/ you can see the correct version of the site.

Thank you! Got it now. For me, www.jkrowling.com was just linking to the list of publishers, no flags or languages. Hence the confusion.

I feel tinhatty - the comment you quoted above inspired me to a rant (http://www.livejournal.com/~cjk1701/34972.html) a while ago.

Yes, I know it's wanky. *sigh*

My friend showed me that site the other day and I got obsessed with finding the hidden things.
I love that quote.
