www.jkrowling.com: A really lovely piece of web design, IMO. My favorite part: "A few weeks ago I did something I've never done before and took a stroll into a Harry Potter chat room: specifically, MuggleNet's chat room. Although I was concerned to find that many of the moderators feel their spiritual home is Slytherin, this is a great site. Nobody was remotely interested in my theories about what's going to happen in book seven, though." Check out the Rumors section for assurance that neither Dumbledore nor Voldemort are related to Harry (and for an ad about charming your own cheese).
ETA: Pick your flag/country/language, and that'll take you to a pop-up flash site. Failing that, go here: http://www.jkrowling.com/en/thankyou.cfm
Also, check out SAST for a bit on the POA premiere.

Date: 2004-05-24 06:55 pm (UTC)The flash version is a beautiful piece of eye candy, but it's very bloated, and a bit of a navigational nightmare. Also, any site that opens a new window automatically loses most -- if not all -- of its "cool" points in my book.

Date: 2004-05-24 08:23 pm (UTC)Web sites opening new windows are one of the reasons I browse with Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/). There's an option that forbids normal links to open new windows. As for Javascript/Java/Flash links, the Tabbrowser extension (http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/#tbe) offers (among other benefits) the possibility to never ever open any unrequested windows (actually, I set it to the stricter option that disable new windows entirely), though it can result in a new tab opening. That was the case with JKR's flashsite. Still a bit annoying, but less so.
