Made of Fail fans--Dayna/[livejournal.com profile] sweetdragon's cat Snuggles is at the vet hospital with a high fever and respiratory problems, and it's going to cost $500 for tests and treatments--and they're already not sure how they're going to make rent. (When Sister Girl's puppy Pete ate a sock, it cost $700. We're still paying that one off. Vet bills do, in fact, suck this bad.) Can you spare a dollar or two for Snuggles?

Vet bills do indeed suck. I have laid out the equivalent of 3 mos. rent to keep my boy alive, and I remember begging for money to help with the vet bill. He passed away earlier this year at age 18. He had a long, happy, spoiled life though. :-)

I donated what I could. I hope others chip in!

Yeah, no kidding. I had plunked down 500 for an operation, not to mention the monthly meds for my baby for a year and a half. I didn't have her for long unfortunately but I made sure she was comfortable for the time I had her.

You might suggest looking into CareCredit. They give out credit cards for dental/vet/other health related expenses that aren't covered by health insurance usually. They usually have 6 months no interest, so if push comes to shove, it might work.

I read the entry and they did get a credit limit for that of 500 but they're still struggling because of the one being unemployed and the other on a suspension from their job.

I was just going to suggest that myself, since it was a lifesaver when my roomie's cat had to go in. That was a 1200.00 bill (yipe!)

This is so hard. My mom is struggling with this right now because her dog has cancer and my mom has already spent $2,100 on her treatment. She can't afford anymore and now is trying to get up the courage to put her dog to sleep. It sucks because her dog is only five years old, but she can't bankrupt herself on veterinary bills.

It is hard. I had to make that decision with my cat a year and a half ago and what it comes down to is the quality of life for the pet (which seriously sucks. Humans have enough illnesses, why have it so animals get it as well). My roommate went through this last November with her horse who's liver was failing. It's so hard. :( Sometimes it's a matter of thinking of the happy times that she's given her dog.

Donated and Twittered about it (http://twitter.com/prettyh/status/2208947266), and suggested Dayna (or someone close to her) set up a Facebook group to get the word out and drum up donations - it was miraculous to see how fast it worked to save the life of my friend Terrance's cat two years ago.

*fingers crossed*

I helped out, too. I know how hard it is when beloved pets are so sick. :(

Donated. It's got to be the worst choice ever, between rent and a pet's life.

I donated what I could and truly wish it could have been more. That is my greatest fear that I will be in a situation like that one day with my baby. *dashes off to cuddle with him*

When my chinchillas got sick, it cost at least $500...and then they both died anyway. :( Why do vet bills COST SO MUCH. *sigh*

Because animals don't get insured like people and there isn't Medicaid/Medicare for animals. Trust me, the vets aren't making much of a profit and drug costs keep going up.

Snuggles is a sweet cat. She is soft and cuddly and even was brave enough to come crawl onto my lap.

Vetinary bills suck.

I have a fur-baby too. Missy broke her leg last year. Final cost? Almost $4000.00! So yeah, I do understand.

Donating now!

Poor dear kitty. Ugh, I hate seeing animals in pain, but vet bills are so hard to handle. I sent a little bit, hope it helps.

Aww! I only have $15 in my account so I gave only $5. I'd probably spend it on iTunes/starbucks/something stupid so it might as well go to something that matters. I hope the kitty gets better.

Vet bills suck like a frickken black hole. We get a "family discount" at our vet, because we have three cats, and a checkup for all three plus a dewormer still sets us back around $300 or so. When my male cat had a urinary blockage my credit card nearly got turned off because I had never used it that much before (it was around $400-500+ a day for three days, plus some follow-up care that cost some more money). Thing is, vet bills cost this much because the veterinary industry isn't set up to swallow certain costs (of machines, tests, staff) etc. because there's no hospital system and the equipment has to often be specialized (and pet insurance costs a ton).

When I get paid I'll be sure to toss something their way.
