Really tired--I think it's because we've had monsoons for about three days now. Time to test out the full spectrum lamp, I guess. So I'm pretty much over here working on, uh, Secret Life-related crafts, drinking iced tea, not doing much. So I might as well go ahead and post these two things now:

[livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna (Catherynne M. Valente) is having some financial trouble at the moment, so:
Starting Monday, I will start posting chapters of a full-length novel version of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. I will be writing it in real time, posting every Monday. It will be free to read–but please know that the sheer calories to make my brain create it require funding, and I would very much appreciate your support. Pay whatever you like for it, whatever you think it’s worth. It’s kind of like an old-fashioned rent party. There’s a button at the bottom of the post to start things out.
Meanwhile, fans and friends have set up [livejournal.com profile] adoptingcat.

Also-meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] coffeeinhell (you may remember me raving about the marshmallows from Polidori Chocolates) is between jobs herself, so if you've ever wanted to order a dark chocolate S'mores kit or H.P. Lovecraft truffles, the time has never been better. (Someone had sent me pomegranate marshmallows of hers--I don't think she's currently selling those--and I pretty much just sat there and ate the entire bag of six in one sitting. They are big and fluffy and AWESOME and I'm going to try the vanilla ones as soon as I can.)

She has Lovecraft. Inspired. Truffles. Oh my god. I think my husband is getting his birthday present early this year.

The vanilla marshmallows (dipped or not) are TEH AWESOME.

Thank you for the link to [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna. I never love fandom more than when we rally 'round one of our own, and I'm so glad to have the chance to help.

Cleo, have you ever thought of doing the same thing? I mean you're spending your hard earned cash on dolls for a story that we read for free. Our entertainment shouldn't cost you money. I know you're also buying the dolls for yourself, but still, you could set up a doll fund or something. I for one wouldn't mind donating a little something for reading SLOD.

Keep in mind, though, that some of Cleo's readers are from overseas. For me, any kind of transfer to the USA costs about $15.

I'm from the UK so I am keeping that in mind. I still wouldn't mind paying.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to buy Cleo's book, and I always link everybody to her stuff, cos the world needs to know about its awesomness, but I just don't have that kind of funds for viewing entries.

Well, that's why I would never charge for the blog content itself. It's one thing to have a special, extra project for people to buy; if you charge them for your basic content, the cost is going to chase them away.

Those pictures were extraodinary. (Or, you know extraoRdinary. *sigh*) Really powerful images. I had a particularly strong emotional response to the one of Rapunzel--felt like I was punched in the gut.

These are awesome and powerful.....they say so much about fairy tale "princess" icons - the ideals from the past, the realities of today.

The only one I thought really didn't "speak" to me was the Belle one. Of all the "princesses" (Belle not being really a princess....per se), she would be the least likely to get plastic surgery, wouldn't you think?

It's "Beauty and the Beast," though. It might be pretty tough to get older and feel you don't live up to the name anymore.

I'll trade you, it's sunny here and I actually LIKE gloomy weather! XD Ooh, Secret Life crafts. That + iced tea sounds like a fun way to spend ANY sort of day, really.

I'd be remiss in not mentioning that your icon had me looking twice as at first it resembled a very pink pit of the Sarlacc only made of cake, strawberries and awesome.

I wouldn't mind being pitched into that!

I'm so sorry. I don't know how to do anything here (except stick my foot in my online mouth, apparently) or I would have deleted it last night. I think I'll just go back to lurking again, that seemed to work better.

Thanks for taking care of it Cleo.

This is TOTALLY unrelated, but my friend sent me this link, and I thought you might appreciate it.

It's a Twilight SAT vocab workbook. Let the thesaurus raping begin.

GAH!

Were I still in my SAT-taking days, any test that asked if I could resist the allure of Edward's myriad charms would go in the trash, college requirement or no.

Argh, I didn't think it was... but now that you say it, I spotted the little lock.

It may be too late, but I'll ask the owner to open the post, because a lot of little lives hang in the balance.

I ordered some marshmallows from her last year, and it was kind of a nightmare. It took more than two months to get them, and she got half the order wrong. Then my initial attempt to straighten it out was completely ignored.

It's really made me even less likely to patronize small businesses online. There's a reason why I check Amazon first, which sucks. I feel like someday soon Amazon is going to own us all.
