The headlines are changing by the moment, but the current word from Gawker/Jezebel and the NY Post is that Natasha Richardson was in critical condition, was briefly reported as having passed away, and is now said to be "brain dead and not expected to survive" after a skiing accident.

ETA: TMZ gives hope, says only sedated? As tacky and intrusive as the TMZ informants tend to be, that's why they also tend to be right. More later, I guess.

God, that's terrible. I had hope for her earlier, but now ... oh, man.

[identity profile] soleta-nf.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That is so sad.

[identity profile] salamandersam.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate this story and wish it weren't true.

[identity profile] stormarrow.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how reliable this is- but tmz is reporting that the hospital told them at 2:00 that she is sedated and not brain dead. =/

Either way, this is just terrible.

[identity profile] stillxmyxheart.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point, I don't even know what to believe. The news stories all seem to contradict themselves. It's a little ridiculous.

[identity profile] gfrancie.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh how awful.

[identity profile] jedigirl.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes me want to cry...she was so great in "Parent Trap" and in "Maid in Manhattan"... :(

[identity profile] elvensapphire.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so, so sad.

[identity profile] kelbelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
TMZ is now reporting that she is NOT brain dead, but sedated with brain swelling.

Perez Hilton is an asshole. So are Time Out New York.

I just hope she's okay. She was so amazing in The Parent Trap and a kabillion other movies.

[identity profile] pseudoblu.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, that's horrible. I hope what people are saying TMZ is saying is true.

[identity profile] flamingtoilet.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, the media is so obsessed with getting the news out first, the little things like fact-checking tend to go by the wayside.

I'm now really hoping she pulls through, not just because, well, she is a person and has a family who cares about her, but just so the media has to take back all of the obits they've been printing about her.

[identity profile] kirsdarke.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This is horrible. I hope we at least get a straight story soon.

[identity profile] allthelivesofme.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
How awful. :-(

[identity profile] scornedsaint.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
This is so horrible. It seems like there's no straight story yet, but I hope that it will be hopeful news.

weird

Canada is reporting that she's got a headache.

[identity profile] nitasee.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's frightening how quickly a brain injury can go from nothing to tragic. Hopefully, this is just sensationalism and not the full story. I'm not sure I would really trust the NY Post.

[identity profile] divadeanna.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
TMZ is saying she isn't brain dead, but has swelling. For once, I hope they're right. :-/ God, how horrible. I hope she pulls through.

Honestly, I didn't think I had ever heard of her before now. Nor had I ever seen her in anything. However, IMDB now leads me to believe that I might have seen her in passing in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes--the Jeremy Brett version.

[identity profile] sun-star-n-moon.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
awwww. I hope the stories are false! (Or greatly exaggerated)

She's done a couple good movies that I like! She seems like a wonderful actress!

[identity profile] megalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel so bad for Liam too... think about it.... he's probably in a hospital waiting room or somewhere where there's a TV on and it'll be a big news item that his wife is dead or dying.

Here's hoping that he's IN her room and the TVs are all off!

[identity profile] prncssaurora.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
This is so awful. Her kids, Liam... I can't even imagine how terrible this must be for them. One report said she'd been talking and laughing with people after her fall and then complained of a headache later. I really hope she's okay.

[identity profile] maudelynn.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
:( i am so sad for her husband and family. I cannot imagine losing Matt. :(

[identity profile] acaciakitty.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh how awful... I've always liked her so much. She's such a classy lady. I hope it is not as bad as it seems. My eyes are watering.

[identity profile] cupcakery.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Mont-Tremblant says she was all right after the fall. I hope they're the ones who are actually right. (Now I'm feeling weird, because I've been there.)

WTF media. I am so confused.

[identity profile] tommx.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
In cases of brain injury involving swelling, it's not uncommon to induce a coma and give the patient manbitol to reduce the swelling.

Statistically, if there is brain swelling, that's an extremely bad sign.

I sincerely hope that this is not the case. I have been a fan of hers for years.
