And then we can move on, but this stuff ain't gonna keep more than a day.

(As to why I was so tired: [livejournal.com profile] entropy_and_me put yesterday's liveblog entries into Microsoft Word, and apparently they added up to more than 7000 words. Yeah.)

The red carpet:

What Really Goes Down On The Oscar Red Carpet?

Three Worst Red Carpet Flubs By Ryan Seacrest [VideUhOh].

Oscars: Best/worst fashion. My favorites were Anne Hathaway, Penelope Cruz and Taraji P. Henson (apparently I dig white gowns this year).

(Once you see it, you can't unsee it: almost every single actress poses with her left hand on her hip.)

Go Fug Yourself goes above and beyond.

The show:

Complete List of 2009 Oscar Winners.

Heath Ledger Wins Posthumous Oscar.

Sean Penn's Wonderful Oscars Acceptance Speech.

Kate Winslet's 'Extras' role oddly prescient.

Cruz becomes first Spanish actress to win Oscar; Javier Bardem didn't come to the Oscars because of Penelope Cruz--because they're dating?

Hugh Jackman's opening number (video). ("Ladies and gentlemen, your Craigslist Dancers!")

Oscars: 13 best/worst moments.

Top Ten Moments of the Oscars. Clips: the Judd Apatow/Pineapple Express short; the Jennifer Aniston/Angelina Jolie thing; Philippe Petit balances an Oscar on his chin; the... ill-advised Great Musicals medley; Ben Stiller as Joaquin Phoenix; Tina Fey and Steve Martin; Heath Ledger's family accepts Best Supporting Actor on his behalf; Kate Winslet looks for her dad; Dustin Lance Black's emotional acceptance speech; Sean Penn and "you commie, homo-loving sons of guns."

Secretly, the Oscars Have Always Been This Gay.

Backstage:

OSCAR Thank You Cam.

Oscars: The view from backstage.

Oscars on the scene: Reports from the theater, parties...and bathrooms!

The Top Five Things You Didn’t See At The Oscars.

Bits: Twittering Celebrities Take Fans Backstage.

Screwups:

Oscars Recap: The Tears, The Flubs, And Sophia Loren [Freeze Frame]. Great for the pictures themselves (some of them animated).

Oscars "In Memoriam" Omissions... Patrick McGoohan and Eartha Kitt, wow.

3 Ways the Academy Needs To Fix the Foreign-Film Oscar.

Why Five Oscar Presenters Was A Bad Idea.

So, were all the crazy changes worth it?

Oscars Ratings UP from Last Year.

The parties:

Join the fun at post-Oscar parties.

The Oscar Parties You'll Never Be Invited To [Gallery].

Oscar stars let loose at Governors Ball.

Vanity Fair Party Photos.

Prince's Oscar night house party: Funkin' 'til dawn.

The aftermath:

The Oscars 2009 Movie Montage Video.

Salman Rushdie Pans Oscar Winners.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Fans — Want To See Some Real Bollywood Flicks?

Slumdog’s Freida Pinto Starring in Woody Allen’s Next! (Related: Want A Best Supporting Actress Oscar? Call Woody Allen.)

Scoop: Oscar or not, Rourke still talk of Hollywood; Could Any Actress Have a Comeback Like Mickey Rourke?

1/6 Joker Police Officer Version by Hot Toys. "To salute the Best Joker ever! - To celebrate Health Ledger won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role at OSCAR with his brilliant performance in The Dark Knight as The Joker, Hot Toys decided to issue a very rare version of this character to enrich your collection." I'd snark on the timing, but... Hot Toys makes really awesome Joker figures. Like, I even considered adding one to The Shelf. So... at least they have that going for them.

And now, to sleep. Remind me to tell you about the Bowl of Galadriel tomorrow.

There was a date cutoff--he appeared at the end of last year's montage.

It would have been a bit sad if the ratings didn't go up, given the sad writer's strike effect on last year's ceremony, but hey, I'll give the new production team some credit anyway for at least trying new ideas, even if some of them were...dubious. (No more Baz Luhrmann-conceived numbers pls.)

Oh my dear lord - what type of mayhem would ensue with a Joker on your shelf? How would it clash with the prominent Lord of the Rings decorum and sensibilities? Would Lyra, in a fit of teenage rebellion, decide to make the Joker her mentor?

I can almost rationalize that, as she was best-known for her theater and television work, but no Don LaFontaine? No Trailer Voice Guy? Really? Can you think of someone more inextricably tied to movies?

I have to admit, my favorite part has turned out to be the Ebert v. Finke snitathon.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Man, was that a tempest in a teacup. And I went back and looked--it really does sound like she's saying "Nicole Kidman refused to present [and therefore is not presenting, because she refused to do so] because she couldn't get the right hairdresser." You know, she didn't say, "Kidman initially refused but she's going to present anyway, even though she didn't want to." I don't think Nikki Finke had bad information so much as she had correct information but wanted to make it sound juicier than it was, and that's when things got snarled up. And she's not winning the battle of semantics here.

Okay, I'm confused about Anne Hathaway's dress. In the red carpet photos it looks like a lovely strapless mostly-white dress, but then when Hugh Jackman pulled her up on stage it looked like a whole different dress -- like, with a big gold band around the bodice and sort of nasty-looking bejeweled netting over the shoulders? Am I crazy?

She had changed into a different dress for that segment, since she needed to be able to move. She changed back after the number was over.

I really liked the 5 oscar presenters for the biggie awards. It was nice that they had people come up and say nice things about the nominees, because that way it actually feels like an honor to be nominated. Or at least that's how I'd feel.

I totally agree! The only thing I'd like to see them make sure of in the future is that the person talking about the nominee really thinks they're great. You could tell some of the comments were more personal than others. For example-- Shirley McLaine's comments to Anne Hathaway. It was almost like she totally didn't mind that she didn't win after that!

the... ill-advised Great Musicals medley and Hugh Jackman, Beyoncé and a bunch of other folks kill all good will for musicals - Thank you! I'm the craziest musical movie/musical theatre lover there is (to a point, and I hate Mamma Mia, so...that might add to my opinion), but I despised that entire medley. It was lousy and also made me deeply uncomfortable, as if my love of musicals should be shunned. Also, they defiled old classics, with the likes of Gene and Judy, by running those clips behind Beyonce and the HSM kids. Ugh. As someone on my Flist said, "Musicals are back? More like musicals want to sing and dance their way back into the closet after that number." *facepalms*

The fashion wraps are always my favorite. So much pretty and so many odd choices. Loves it.

regarding the musical number: YES. At first I was excited, thinking it was going to be an old-school movie musical tribute. But once they threw in Grease I knew it was doomed. First lesson of medleys, folks -- just because it's nominally from the same genre does NOT mean it should be squished together. And if it is squished together, give it more than fifteen damn seconds. And the snipped from HSM just made me want to throw something at the screen.
