Fact: February is the beginning of spring in Alabama.

Evidence: Pictures I took in my backyard earlier this week.

IMG_2732 IMG_2731

These are in large pots at about shoulder-level as you walk out the back door. My mother can't remember what they are, so I guess we'll find out, won't we?

IMG_2740 IMG_2738

These are camellias. I think?

IMG_2735b IMG_2737

This is a potted Japanese cherry tree (ornamental, no fruit). In the third picture (below left), I have no idea what that curving filament is. It looks like a hair, but--it's not mine. And you can see some spiderwebbage going on as well. So I have no idea.

IMG_2736 IMG_2743

Meanwhile, the picture to the right is the jasmine draped over the top of our privacy fence. It's very hard to see, but there really are two or three yellow blossoms up there already--I could smell them very clearly.

Note: despite all the floriage (amazingly, this is a real word), it was damn hell ass cold.

Bonus: Sunday morning at the Jones house. Apparently my dogs went on a bender last night or something. And now you know why Shelby's nickname is Right-Angle Dog.

Yep, that's a camellia. :)

Oddly enough, none of our trees have started to flower yet. The redbuds should be out soon, though, and the grass in the yard has perked up.

Fact: February is the beginning of spring in Alabama.

That's why I love visiting my grandmother in Montgomery for spring break. It's still completely spastic up in northern Virginia well into April, so it's nice to spend a week in a place where there are actual plants growing.

I need help! What Cleo entries should I recommend for LJ's anniversary book? (http://community.livejournal.com/lj_turns10/573.html?thread=6973#t6973) The one that comes to mind is the beignet that Cleo's sister made, but I can't find a link to that. Thanks!

Oh I'm so jealous!!! You have actual leaves on your trees!

We got up to 50 degrees here today, the warmest it's been since some time in October. Yesterday there was a foot of snow and now in the sunny spots there's just muddy grass. It's fabulous, everyone was outside in my neighborhood like it was 70 degrees or something.

Indeed, but Montana had 60 degree weather in January after being in the freezer below 0 (actual--not windchill). I figured temperatures jumping from below 0 into the low 60s in January in Montana wasn't quite normal. I have a friend who lives in Billings up there...

Spring may come a bit earlier for Kansas City this year. Winter has been an odd one. We didn't have consistently cold weather. It would dip into the single digits and teens and perhaps snow, but in one to two weeks, it would jump back into the 50s and 60s. We actually broke 70 in places around town yesterday. Strange winter weather...

But whatever they offer you, don't feed the plants.

I know! It was 70 today, and supposed to be in the mid- to upper 70s all week here in Houston. I can't remember the last time I wore more than a shirt outside. Maybe early January. Maybe. If Ike hadn't wiped out all of our plants, we'd be sprouting, as well.

Yeah, it's snowing outside right now so I may be hating you just a little bit. I love that it never gets really hot here, but the trade off is that it spends a lot of time being freezing and slushy.

But first: Haha. Yeah, it's pretty warm here in TN too right now.

Rupert Grint's Film Cherrybomb premiered at Berlinale today! ICM has pics (http://www.rupert-grint.us/~taoicm1/gallery2/v/premieres/Cherrybomb/)! And over this week, they'll be releasing their video and pics from the red carpet and from the Q&A session that was today. And tomorrow they sit down with him for an interview and will hopefully have pics and at least audio from that.
