Fact: February is the beginning of spring in Alabama.
Evidence: Pictures I took in my backyard earlier this week.
These are in large pots at about shoulder-level as you walk out the back door. My mother can't remember what they are, so I guess we'll find out, won't we?
These are camellias. I think?
This is a potted Japanese cherry tree (ornamental, no fruit). In the third picture (below left), I have no idea what that curving filament is. It looks like a hair, but--it's not mine. And you can see some spiderwebbage going on as well. So I have no idea.
Meanwhile, the picture to the right is the jasmine draped over the top of our privacy fence. It's very hard to see, but there really are two or three yellow blossoms up there already--I could smell them very clearly.
Note: despite all the floriage (amazingly, this is a real word), it was damn hell ass cold.
Bonus: Sunday morning at the Jones house. Apparently my dogs went on a bender last night or something. And now you know why Shelby's nickname is Right-Angle Dog.

Date: 2009-02-08 11:02 pm (UTC)That's why I love visiting my grandmother in Montgomery for spring break. It's still completely spastic up in northern Virginia well into April, so it's nice to spend a week in a place where there are actual plants growing.

Date: 2009-02-08 11:19 pm (UTC)We got up to 50 degrees here today, the warmest it's been since some time in October. Yesterday there was a foot of snow and now in the sunny spots there's just muddy grass. It's fabulous, everyone was outside in my neighborhood like it was 70 degrees or something.

But whatever they offer you, don't feed the plants.

Date: 2009-02-09 12:25 am (UTC)Rupert Grint's Film Cherrybomb premiered at Berlinale today! ICM has pics (http://www.rupert-grint.us/~taoicm1/gallery2/v/premieres/Cherrybomb/)! And over this week, they'll be releasing their video and pics from the red carpet and from the Q&A session that was today. And tomorrow they sit down with him for an interview and will hopefully have pics and at least audio from that.
