Coraline!

Aw, Coraline was so fun and scary and gorgeous. (You know the monster in The Nightmare Before Christmas? What's his name, Boogie something? Yeah. On that level, but with more screentime. AHHHH.) And we even ended up seeing it in 3D, which I really recommend--if nothing else, the landscapes have this spectacular depth to them. Of course, even if you don't get to see it in 3D, the movie's gorgeous anyway. I just recommend it.

(By the way: if you knit, you will LOVE this movie. Someone actually knitted all the tiny gloves and sweaters. And then, of course, there's the Other Mother's world itself.)

Also, fun: Coraline Twitter reviews as a word cloud.

Also-also, I am totally in love with the cat.

You have no idea--I was just blown away, watching the movie, by the amount of detail and the quality of detail and yet how fluidly everything moved--I just cannot imagine stop-motion animating all of it. There was a yoga instructor mentioned in the credits, and I was like, FOR REAL. I would have lost my fool mind.

Tallahassee sucks and we don't get it in 3D. I am thinking that I'm gonna go catch a matinee after class on Monday, though.

I made the mistake of reading the book last night, and then some movie reviews and pictures, and now I'm not actually interested in the movie anymore. ;_;
I was so excited, too. Now with every new thing I see, I'm a little more frustrated. (Henry Selick is brilliant, but the movie just makes me... weirdly uncomfortable.)

We LOVED it, our 7yr niece LOVED it.

Scary for kids, my ass. She was laughing at the scary parts.

You know at the beginning, when the big 3D needles are sewing the doll. One poked out towards the audience, and a little boy behind me said, "Please don't hit me!"

Man, I am so pissed. I've been waiting to see this movie FOREVER, but the stupid effing small town I go to college in isn't playing it. We get The Pink Panther 2, but no Coraline. It's so incredibly lame.

But other than that I thought it was great, and it looked phenomenal.

I, too, was bugged by that. Also, they lost the clever detail of the Other Mother swearing by her right hand that she will let Coraline go.

I did think it was cool that Wybie and other characters (who will be left unspecified to avoid spoilage) were black — diversity in contemporary children's stories is generally for the good — but I still don't think adding Wybie was necessary.

Hey Cleo, how do you actually pronounce Coraline? Is it 'cora-lyne' or cora-lean' or some other configuration I haven't though of yet?

From: [identity profile] visceralvamp.livejournal.com
It's said pretty much the way it looks "Cora-line." Line like the word line. Like Caroline, but with the a and the o switched. :]

Yes, this. We went to the theater that said 3D and the only thing they were showing in 3D was My Bloody Valentine. WTF?!

Even not in 3D, though, it was gorgeous. I can't wait for the DVD so I can watch all the Making Of documentaries.

Been meaning to watch the movie ever since I read the book. And I got scared shitless everytime Dave McKean's art popped up suddenly, especially of the Other Mother. My hair stood on ends the entire night and all I could imagine was the Other Mother hiding under my bed =_= And this was just over a year ago.

She even looks scarier in motion D:

That said, I can't wait to watch it in 3D :D

I was lucky enough to see this with an amazing audience. They gasped at the right moments, laughed at the right moments, were in silent awe at the right moments... what a wonderful energy to see that movie in.

And it made the, um... breasts part that much more shocking/hilarious.

You know, that's a scene that I never hear talked about! My 13 and 14 year old brothers were really uncomfortable during that scene until she unzipped. I thought it was hilarious, but they were a little shocked.

You're lucky to have had such a good audience. I went to a matinee yesterday, so there were only two very drunk college kids and a bunch of little kids with their parents. Over half of the seats were empty! I was also having a Bad Day, so I think I might need to see it again under better circumstances.

ugggh I want to see it. It took me a few tries to get into the book, I don't know if it was this anti-neil funk or something. But I've grown into liking most of his stuff.

Unfortunately I live in a one-horse type of area in Ohio and it's not playing anywhere near me. Not even in the city's indie film theater. =(

I just saw this a few hours ago, in 3D. I loved it. And it wasnt annoying 3d, like "OOO WE PUT THIS HERE BECAUSE WE CAN!! BECAUSE ITS 3D!!!" It actually made sense! And yea, it was kinda scary...there were a lot of young kids in the audience that I didnt think should've been there.

My boyfriend treated me to the movie last night and we both fell in love with it! Neither of us are really into the whole 3D thing (I know, I know, we're party poopers), but in 2D it's still amazing and we went on and on about it for the rest of the night. The Other Mother creeped me the hell out - so much so that I had to look away a couple of times! - but I also found her strangely fascinating. XD

I, too, am in love with the cat!
