OH MY GOD HELP I'M FALLING BEHIND IT'S DUSTIN HOFFMAN AND EMMA THOMPSON ("Shush"). These directors all have something in common: vision, and... something, Hoffman doesn't know. They are both so drunk. Thompson offers "a hefty discount" to anyone who hires them as a package deal in the future.

BEST DIRECTOR

Danny Boyle, "Slumdog Millionaire"
Stephen Daldry, "The Reader"
David Fincher, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
Ron Howard, "Frost/Nixon"
Sam Mendes, "Revolutionary Road"

Danny Boyle wins, and a huge scream goes up. I don't want to call the Oscars now, exactly, but... well. He thanks the HPFA for their "mad, pulsating love" for Slumdog Millionaire.

Sigourney Weaver, tasteful in blue! (It was much more vivid on the red carpet.) She presents the clip from Revolutionary Road.

Whoa, Sandra Bullock is rocking the white one-shoulder foofy goddess dress. I am not even kidding, she rocks it. She's here to present

BEST ACTOR, COMEDY OR MUSICAL

Javier Bardem, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"
Colin Farrell, "In Bruges"
James Franco, "Pineapple Express"
Brendan Gleeson, "In Bruges"
Dustin Hoffman, "Last Chance Harvey"

"That is, like, the first time I've ever used the word Flemish in a sentence," she says of In Bruges, adding that Franco's role must have been "the most fun ever to do research for." Whoa, Colin Farrell wins! "It must have been the counting in Florida," he says. I'm really surprised, if only because historically two actors/same movie/one category tends to split the vote. Maybe that $20 he gave Gleeson really did some good. "I hate to wax lyrical," he says, which I doubt, and he's saying something about "curiosity is love" and he'll cut his Globe in half and Gleeson "can have a hemisphere" and five minutes later he's still going and you know, I'm not even going to assume he's drunk. Is he off the sauce these days? I'm not even sure. I'd love to think that this is what Colin Farrell is like sober. "And of course the Hollywood Foreign Press Association! I nearly left without thankin' you! WOOOOOOOOO. That hour we spent together... Thank you very much! For this memory! I'm very humble! Thank you!"

God bless that man.

Colin Farrell seemed actually touched and surprised by winning. Off the sauce or on it was endearing.

Ever since I saw the mini-documentary someone did about his involvement with a sports group for disadvantaged and/or disabled kids, I've had such a soft spot for him. He's only badass on the outside, I think. Swoon!

Colin's speech was pretty awesome.

I'd love to think that this is what Colin Farrell is like sober.

Me too.

"Vicky Cristina Barcelona" was Woody Allen's movie for 2008, wasn't he? Why the hell isn't he here?

Woody Allen never goes to award shows. He only did one time at the Oscars in early 2002 to beg filmmakers to come back to the greatest city ever, NYC and expressed his love for his town.

He wasn't at the Oscars in '77 when Annie Hall won everything.

Aha, that's the appearance I was thinking of - didn't he and a bunch of directors make short film tributes to NYC as well? I guess I hadn't noticed him not being there the rest of the time, heh.

I think so! A kinda of Yeah!!New York! after 9/11.

You go "Slumdog Millionaire"! You deserve it! One of the best movies I've ever seen, for serious.

That's funny - the first thing I said when I saw Colin Farrell on the red carpet was, "Is he sloshed??" I don't know if he was ever on the wagon, come to think of it...

AUGH - I want to see Slumdog Millionaire SO MUCH. Damned limited releases! Need to hit the smaller Toronto theatres to find it. Have you seen it yet?

Colin just seems to love to talk no matter what. *cough*sextape*cough*

Sex tape...??

o.O

I need to see this tape. Have I been living under a rock?!?

It's heartening to know that hot guys make 'em too. I was scarred for years after accidentally stumbling across Tom Sizemore's tape (and wow, what a misnomer!!).

THe bad thing about this is I think Slumdog Millionaire is now getting OVER-hyped and it's becoming such a turn-off for me. Which is sad, because it sounded really good when it was first released. But now it's like that quirky little film everyone has to love, and UGH. Sweeping the Golden Globes is not a good way to get me to see the film. If it sweeps the Oscars too, I'll probably never watch it.

And I really wanted Ron Howard to win, because that man is a genius.

I liked Slumdog Millionaire when I saw it, but I wasn't in love with it. And the fact that it's sweeping doesn't make me happy. Especially when Milk wasn't even nominated for best picture. Booooo.

I'm so excited that Colin Farrell won. I loved that movie so much when I saw it, and was so pleased that it's getting attention from the Important Awards Types. Or at least the Golden Globes.

The thing about Farrel is that he's Irish. Whether he's been drinking or not (knowing the Irish, he so has), he's going to ramble and storytell and just generally go on. I do so love the Irish ♥

(Captcha was, ironically, "for haste")

I find it weird that In Bruges is categorized as a comedy. I mean yeah, there are funny parts, but it's a fucking depressing movie.

God bless that man.

Yes! I loved his speech. And In Bruges was my favorite movie this year.
