Pierce Brosnan! Looking dapper, of course. "When I was listening to the songs of ABBA in the '70s..." I'm really having a hard time imagining this, to be honest. Could they not find someone not in Mamma Mia! to present the clip? I also have to say, I love him, but I only consistently heard two things about this movie, and they are, 1) "It was fun" and 2) "Oh my God, never let Pierce Brosnan sing again." So... there's that.

Sean Combs and Kate Beckinsale (in an interesting white, kind of foofy at the top. Also, I love her giant chandelier earrings. What are those, rubies?) with

ORIGINAL SCORE

Alexandre Desplat, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
Clint Eastwood, "Changeling"
James Newton Howard, "Defiance"
Hans Zimmer, "Frost/Nixon"
A.R. Rahman, "Slumdog Millionaire"

Rahman wins. I am really starting to lean towards this one for my Best Picture Oscar pool pick sight unseen, I have to say. (Sight unseen is the best way to play, really--your handicapping judgment isn't clouded by your own opinions, if that makes any sense.) He thanks, among others, "the billion people of India." Hee! Well, I think he managed to beat that time Peter Jackson thanked all of New Zealand. (You know. "That time.")

I don't know what Duchovny's on about--he wants to make sure his son knows that he's happy? Even though he looks extremely over the whole thing? He mentions his wife texting him? Are we just trying to emphasize what a family man he is after the whole sex addiction scandal? I don't know. Poor Jane Krakowski, she doesn't know what his deal is either.

BEST ACTRESS, TV MUSICAL OR COMEDY

Christina Applegate, "Samantha Who?"
America Ferrera, "Ugly Betty"
Tina Fey, "30 Rock"
Debra Messing, "The Starter Wife"
Mary-Louise Parker, "Weeds"

But she is very excited when Tina Fey wins! "Good gravy," deadpans Fey. She has always loved the Hollywood Foreign Press, she avers, she always had all the action figures! Aw, and also, she would like to address the many people on the internet who don't like her: "You can suck it--and Babs in La Crosse, you, you can really suck it." (I'm paraphrasing only very, very slightly.) And then she thanks her husband. Hee.

OH THANK GOD THE DEMILLE'S UP NEXT.

Considering how much I love Abba I can't believe I haven't seen Mamma Mia yet.

Yeah, so apparently the reason this thing is going to take forever is a commercial break between every. single. award.

Also, I haven't yet seen Slumdog Millionaire, but I did download the soundtrack on recommendation and it is excellent.

I thought Applegate looked great, but Messing needs to leave the dark eyeliner ALONE.

Dude, this is clearly the drinky Oscars. Did we see Barrymore earlier? I mean, we are all imbibing here. There is a feeling of magnanimity and camaraderie unseen before this time. This may be why Duchovny is a little loopy today. Then again, he may simply be bonkers.

I'm going to miss the old cast so much, but hopefully the new characters will be just as interesting. Naomi seems pretty cool.

i can't pick a new favorite XD
I love Naomi, Emily, Pandora, Effy (obviously...), Freddie, JJ, and Cook. Hahahha.

definitely going to miss the others, though. but, as we can see from Slumdog Millionaire, they're all heading in a new direction.

nick hoult is going to do an audiobook for nick hornby XD

I thought Pandora was kind of annoying on the second series, but hopefully she'll be better as we get to know more about her.

I was so impressed by Dev Patel, considering that Skins was his first acting job!

He is? For which book? I love Nick Hornby so much, I can't wait for An Education.

Slam. I haven't read it (mostly 'cos it's targeted audience is for age twelve) but I'm interested to hear the audiobook, of course. Hahhaa. Hornby is my favorite author, for sure. :D

I think I need to see this movie, 'cos all I've heard (minus enid_keaner a few comments below this) are good reviews.

Oh, okay. Yeah, I read that, I could definitely tell it was aimed towards a younger audience. I still enjoyed it, though. After reading all of his novels, I'm currently working on his nonfiction stuff, I really liked Songbook. I identify entirely too much with High Fidelity, heh.

I went in with pretty high expectations and wasn't disappointed at all.

I'm just saying, I'm not sure it was only show he did it on. Although it was really funny at the Oscars.

lol So true. It's a whole lot of fun, the characters are shallow, and never let Pierce sing ever again.

I'm like the one person who wasn't hugely moved by Slumdog Millionaire. I saw it, I liked it, but I in no way think it's the best thing.

OH! Dissenting opinion! My mother and I couldn't even WATCH the whole thing, we had to shut it off and we couldn't return it to the rental store fast enough. It was NOT fun, not at all. We didn't even GET to the part where Pierce Brosnan sings.
