Tom Brokaw, what? Oh, he's here with the Frost/Nixon clip. Brilliant. He's got this big smile on his face like, "I JUST MET ANGELINA JOLIE!"

Colin Farrell! He immediately starts snarking on his scripted intro, hee ("Hollywood isn't the only place for great movies this year. In case you actually thought that. That's a weird one"). He apologizes for having a snerfly cold and says something like, "It's not the other thing it used to be"--what, is he talking about doing coke or something? Fantastic.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE PICTURE

"The Baader Meinhof Complex"
"Everlasting Moments"
"Gomorrah"
"I've Loved You So Long"
"Waltz With Bashir"

Waltz with Bashir wins. Word on the street is that this is the smart pick for your Oscar ballot. You get that one for free.

"Here are TWO STARS OF THE DARK KNIGHT!" ASK THEM HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT HEATH LEDGER! QUICK, BEFORE THEY GET AWAY! Maggie Gyllenhaal cannot read off a TelePrompter for shit. I mean, she can, but she can't make it sound the least bit natural. Not that she should cry herself to sleep over this or anything.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

Judi Dench, "Cranford"
Laura Linney, "John Adams"
Catherine Keener, "An American Crime"
Shirley MacLaine, "Coco Chanel"
Susan Sarandon, "Bernard & Doris"

Giant cheer for Laura Linney, who wins. She's in sort of a buttery neutral color, with a big fluffy sheer skirt that she keeps tripping on. I think a blonde needs a bit more color than that, but otherwise she looks great. Also, she is thrilled for Tom Wilkinson, which is sweet.

(How is it that this show can move so fast and yet still have two hours left?)

I have to say that Laura Linney's dress is so far my favorite. I don't even like yellow.

I know, are they going to have an hour-long halftime show or something?

True. It will be a lovely deadroll. (Yeah, I know it's morbid, but that's totally my favorite part. I'm sick and sad.)

I agree with you on Laura Linney's dress. I looked at her and thought "ooh! pretty! but...she's kind of all the same color."

Why do so many of the winners seem to be sitting miles away from the stage? The walk to get the award is taking longer than the acceptance speeches.

Ohh, I really wanted Dame Judi to win for Cranford. She was absolutely MAGNIFICENT, and the role seemed like a bit of a departure for her -- not along her usual steely line at all.

Waltz with Bashir is amazing. Not AMAAAAAAAAAAAAZING, I actually mean truly amazing. You get to sit for five minutes without moving after the movie ends because it blows your mind up. And it's the best thing ever.

I just hope it won't steal Wall-E's sole Oscar. Animated Feature for Wall-E, Foreign Film for Waltz, EVERYBODY WINS. Ya?

I actually know one of the head animators IRL.

... *shuts up*
