So we just spent half an hour on the phone with Charter getting them to reroute our router or remode our modem or I don't even know what the hell, and I have not had internet since about 11 am, and I have NO IDEA what happened anywhere today. (I mean, I turned on the TV news but it was nothing but election hysteria, so: NO IDEA.) Also, I have a terrifying number of comments and emails in my inbox, which makes me think that something happened, but I'm not sure what. (Yes, I'm aware of the new Paramore video.) (Did everyone really just want to talk about hot chocolate and light boxes? Because that's really kind of what it's looking like. Huh.) (And Eowyn kept bugging me all day to refresh Firefox and see if the cable was back yet, because she was all in a lather that Tonner.com might have posted the new doll pics today. THE THIRD DAY OF THE MONTH IS BY DEFINITION "EARLY NOVEMBER," CHECK FOR INTERNETS AGAAAAAAAAIN.)

As for the linkspam, I'm going to deal with that after I've had dinner.

ETA: Tour of Terror: Soho has already descended into MADNESS, and the event hasn't even started yet.

*pets* You need the Internet for your work, dammit! *shakes fist at Charter*

I'd like to plug my friend's Twilight fan site: http://www.twilight-media.net

She's a sweetie and has always shared wonderful pictures with the rest of fandom.

FOR REAL, I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET ANYTHING DONE TODAY. Not even the True Blood recap, because I hadn't downloaded the closed-captioning yet.

I'd like to plug my friend's Twilight fan site: http://www.twilight-media.net

Okay, wait--she has good pictures and she's not crazy? Because I might have to buy stock in this.

Why does MTV hate Canadians? Do you know of anywhere else I can watch the new Paramore video?
EDIT: Nevermind, found it (with annoying subtitled lyrics) here (http://www.imeem.com/people/VcGFpc/video/BpqaSn2T/paramore_decode_music_video/).

Also, I noticed that you almost always apologize for liking Paramore (or do the SHUT UP! thing). Has the band suddenly become so cool that it's now uncool to like them? I'm lost. But I liked them before they were cool/uncool, so I'm not going to apologize for remaining a fan. :P

I'm not sure.

Funnily enough, they're in Rock Band 2 (That's What You Get) and in the tour mode there is a point where when you select a gig an option comes up to ditch the one you originally planned to play in favor of playing the Paramore song at a Hot Topic for quadruple the money.

If you take it, you lose like half your fans. For selling out.

Hee! Bastards. I like Paramore songs because I can actually SING them. Well, I mean, not "Misery Business," although I do a pretty good backup vocal in the shower.

Heh. I think I've just been hearing a lot of comments (not here) from people who are way too cool for poppy fun music anyway. And of course I always assume that whatever I like must be awful, because I have awful taste in music in general. Maybe if I just acted like I thought had good taste everyone would just follow my lead and believe it?

Nope. It's just cool on the internet for people to hate on things that are popular.

I don't think anyone should apologize for his or her taste in music! When you do that, the music snobs win. ;)

just random $ thought...

the 1000 true fans idea has been on my mind...

( the thing where 1000 people pay $100 ea. once a year )

i have no idea what your thoughts on it are,

but it would be a source of income for the fandom people like yourself.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah, I've heard it discussed. I think it would be very, very difficult to find that many people to pay anyone $100. 10,000 to pay $10 each might almost be easier, particularly if you're working on the internet, where top websites can have millions of hits a month. I'm... uh, kind of working on something along the 10Kx$10 thing, actually. Well, that's what the annotations e-book will basically end up being.

is a poll to that extent out of the question?

for me personally, a $100 is worth it for eventual doll purchase alone...
( and im sure pesky things like appliance replacements would fit in too )

My best friend looks almost exactly like Haley Williams. True story.

Anyways. Is it just me, or did that video seem to give away more or less everything in the movie we hadn't already seen in stills/other? 'Cause now I'm wondering what there could possibly be left to see, aside from, of course, sparkling.

One of my friends is going, and she's sincerely and wholeheartedly thrilled. She's the [sparkly] Charlotte to my Miranda; I don't even have to heart to mock her. So I guess she'll be mad when I start bellowing "DIE...! DIE...! DIE...! I CAN'T" whilst in the movie.

(I would totally go. But I have class. :\ )

Okay, this finally occurred to me as something I was genuinely curious about--something I noticed while I was watching the most recent trailer: is Robert Pattinson doing some kind of Chicago accent, since that's where Edward was originally from (if I'm remembering this correctly)? It was something about the way he was--hitting his consonants? I can't quite put my finger on it.

I wish I could think of something for Kristen Stewart--I really appreciate that she's doing Bella and not some wispy girly-girl actress. She kind of has this toughness that balances Bella's whole fall-over-and-die schtick. But for some reason, I am horrible at thinking of any kind of question to ask anyone (as you will have noticed).

(What's your friend's connection? It sounds like fun.)

Lack of questions is okay, really; she's not going to be working the carpet, but actually on it. So they wouldn't be questions of any sort of value anyway.

I'm not sure where she got them; through a friend I don't know. But she's rich and her friends are rich, so it's something along those lines. I'm going to ask her today, tho.

Also, if you put this up in a linkspam, my friend's trying to figure out one cracky question worth getting past security. I'm sure your readership would be most helpful :)

That sort of crack.

Re: Twilight

See, that's what I was struggling with. And you don't want to ask them something so played that they can totally just give you the rehearsed PR answer, and you don't want to ask them something insulting to the material, because... they'll just give you the rehearsed PR answer ("Oh, it was totally amazing to work on this movie, I became a fan of Stephenie's work...").

And there have been a LOT of interviews/questionnaires for these people lately, so... this is not easy. Hm.

Oh, a classic standby: did you keep anything from the set or anything that belonged to your character? Because Bella had a couple of pieces of jewelry that I totally would have made off with if I'd been Kristen Stewart.

Yeah, that's the problem. They've already been questioned to the point of extinction, and it makes it hard to come up with something original, which, with actors, you always strive for. (like oh god this one time I was with Will Smith and his family (attending them at a premiere, great work for kids in LA), and he had an answer for everything omg)

I figure the more I ask intelligent people, the more likely I am to get an intelligent answer.

I so wish I could be at one of these things. Like, maybe on a nice perch with a good view, not actually trying to fight my way over to the poor guy. I'm just fascinated by fandom insanity, for some reason. I was actually at a Deathly Hallows release party downtown attended by 1000 people (this was confirmed by the news the next morning), and I will never, ever forget the way people screamed at midnight and tried to TOUCH THE BOOKS as people ran past with them, like the books were holy relics or something.

Did everyone really just want to talk about hot chocolate and light boxes?

Yes! I like my chocolate less-sweet, so I mix my own--three semi-heaping teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, one teaspoon of sugar, a splash of hot water, stir to dissolve, and fill the mug the rest of the way with nuked milk. I consider it a health drink--full of calcium and whatever those miracle nutrients that are supposed to be in chocolate are, and only as much sugar and fat as you choose.

I've noticed that Ghiradelli cocoa powder is way better than Hershey or Western Family--it blends more smoothly, while the others seem to stay a little gritty.
