God, I feel like punching someone in the face right now, for absolutely no reason at all. I can't think of anything it could be other than hormones (maybe?), and I don't even know that this is the right time for hormonal crazy.

Also--and this is not what really upset me or anything--I was getting ready to wash my hair that morning, and I was doing that vain, idle kind of thing you do when you sort of push your hair back and start looking at yourself (your hair, your skin, your nose, whatever) in the mirror, and--I was looking for it, wasn't I? I had to have known what I was looking for, or I wouldn't have seen it. Hadn't I even been wondering to myself last week when my first gray hair might show up? And I was still stunned when I found it--not even it, them, right there in plain sight at my right temple. Plain sight, at least, when I pulled my hair back off my face. But I kept having a hard time seeing them, depending on which way the light glinted on them--and I can't tell you how freaked out I was that I had them, multiple thems, not because I suddenly had Gray Hair but because it was like, how have they been here all this time without me noticing?!--so I pulled one out. Trust me, this was not an act of vanity, as there are still others to spare. No, I wanted to get one under the light and give it a good once-over. And you know what? It wasn't gray at all. It was snow white.

Dear Lord: I don't ask You for a lot of things. Normally I just say, "Please help me to understand this," or "Please give me the strength to deal with this," You know, nothing too specific. But this time I am going to ask You, since I'm obviously getting a bit older and it's time to make the best of these things, please, please, please, if I could have a long white streak like Rogue. Please? Please.

I started getting grey hairs in high school. I thought everyone did. :(

My first ones showed up at about age 18. I'm 22 now, and have a good smattering of them on top of my head. The fun part though, is that my hair is currently dyed pink, and the grey hairs are still sort of visible... as extra sparkly pink hairs. It's actually kind of cool.

And Cleo, I must add, the last part of your entry put a huge smile on my face =) 'cause Rogue is that awesome.

Hey, I've got gray--well, bright silver, actually--hairs all over the place, and I'm 23. I've accepted the fact that I'm doomed.

I'm hoping for that too. A white streak would be so damn cool!

I got my first grey silver hair a few months ago, and I had the very same thought. I would kill for a Rogue stripe.

That would be seriously so cool. I found three bright gray hairs right in the middle of my bangs last year (I was 25, WTF), and I do everything I can to pin them with their "normal" friends so they can't be seen. At least Rogue has styyyle, you know? :\

My first grays (2 strands) came in along my part and that was my first thought as well... "So cool, Rogue"

now I have 1 at the very front and I'm holding out for Bellatrix.

Welcome to my world at 25 when flocks of white hair appeared for the 1st time. Mom cheerfully reminded me (yes, I had forgotten) that my grandfather was entirely white by age 30.

...

Gee, thanks MOM!
I've been coloring my hair since then and taking it back to the color I had when I was 11.
It's a good excuse to give color a whirl if you've ever been tempted.

Awww don't worry! It's not really about getting old, it's genetics.

Hubby started going white when he was 15. I started at 39 :D

Me, I have no wrinkles and comparatively few grey hairs for my age, but I'm chunky. I'll be the round little old lady with great skin.

I knew a girl in high school who had black hair with occasional snow-white hairs shot through it all over. It was truly striking.

(Is your hair light or dark? I've heard that lighter-haired people, in particular redheads, are more likely to get white hairs rather than grey.)

Huh--your basic medium-to-light brown, although some of the processing I've put my hair through has made it lighter and golder on top.

The last paragraph of this entry had me giggling for five minutes straight, I swear.

Of course, you could always go Georgia Nicholson and dye a long, white streak in your hair with peroxide. Just make sure you don't try to coolly flip your hair back.

At least white is cooler than grey? I live in hope that, like my great-grandmother, from whom I inherited my red hair, I'll skip the grey and go straight to white.

I had a noticeable patch of white hairs by the time I was 19, and now at 24 I have an almost-streak right along my part. Most people think it's pretty cool, actually. I could always part on the other side if I get tired of it.

Ha! I'm glad I'm not the only one hoping for a cool Rogue streak. 22 or so was when I first noticed them and at first I couldn't tell if they were gray or just really light blond, but they're gray. Not a lot, but enough to be noticeable to me.

I don't really care, though, vanity wise. Both of my parents went gray rather early (well, we assume my mom went gray rather early. Her natural hair color hasn't been seen since the 80s) so it's not unexpected.

It's a shock, isn't it? I was idly sitting in a parked car one day, and noticed a blazing white strand at my temple, lit up in the sun and reflected in the sideview mirror. Of course, upon closer examination, discovered I had several of them. I was 35. The best are the ones that sprout right at the top front of my hairline. They're coarser than the regular ones, and like to stick straight up, resisting all attempts at being hidden.

I've grown to kind of like them. They're SASSY.

In elementary school someone told me I had a gray hair so I ran to the bathroom, pulled it out and said that it had only been some baby powder that uh, only managed to get on that one single strand. I'm 19 now and ever since I've consistently had a few that show themselves now and again, always bright white. My great-great-someone had all white hairs at 16 which despite the shock factor would've have been kick ass for dyeing it funky colors.

And your prayer for a Rogue streak is fantastic XD

I have red hair and I've always had a long pure white streak on the left side of my... I don't know... hair follicles? It's apparently a spot of hair that has no colour pigment. You have to dig a little to see it, but sometimes it would become unearthed and kids in school would not be, how should I put this? Not nice, that's how I would put it. I was so embarrassed I think I begged my mom to let me dye it. She, of course, said NO. Now, I'm glad because people in college think it's cool or they don't even notice it.

Just now? HA!

My biological father had gray hair filling most of his head by the time he graduated med school. A friend has had gray hairs as long as I've known her (going on ten years now). I once knew a woman in MA who had all silver hair by the time she was in her mid-20s. She was gorgeous. So I have always wanted more silver/gray hair ALL AT ONCE, rather than this slow and steady pace I'm at. I think the gray hairs in my eyebrows bother me more for some reason. I tend to pluck them once they get too long, but other than that I think I'm just resigned to my fate as far as gray hair goes.

You'll get used to them. I promise.

I thought all grey hairs are really white - they just appear grey because they are mixed with color hairs.

Some hair types after they lose pigment are more transparent than others and often the hair has tint from damage. The dirty yellow is common as is the blue pewter.

Clearly your mutant powers are developing and that's the signifier. Maybe the other temple will go too, and you'll have AWESOME MAGICAL POWERS like Dr. Strange.

Grey hair is hott. Wait until you also need reading glasses so you can peer inquiringly and knowingly over them, like a sexy librarian. I am telling you, this is good.
