Okay, I want a microphone headset for this podcasting thing, because my godforsaken $9 Walgreens mic is not cutting it. Some combination of good quality, reliable, cheap. Recommendations?

I have a GE microphone headset for chatting online. Got it for, I think, $16.00 at Target. It's over a year old now and it works like a charm.

I'll second that. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007SXHP0

...but I swear it was only $32 when I bought it in January 2007. :-/ It looks like they have some other USB headsets in that price range, though, and mine has worked great for me for almost two years. I Skype on it a lot.

Well, but a reseller's got it new for $26, which is pretty good.

What website did you get your icon from? I've actually made pictures there before, a few years ago.

You can do them here: http://www.buscarmessenger.com/avatars.swf

I think it was a different site when they were first popular, but that's got all the same pieces.

I've worn it for 4-5 hours at a time with no discomfort. Now THAT'S fatigue testing!

I really like my Logitech headphones/microphone headset. I think I paid $30 or so, but there's a whole line of them starting at $10ish. They're really decent and have never given me any trouble.

Walmart can sell some decent headsets. I bought mine for 17 or so bucks. Its a headset with a mouthpiece and is pretty comfortable.

Logitech. Even their cheap ones are pretty awesome.

Get one that plugs into the USB port, not into the headphone/microphone port. They're a little pricier but well worth it.

And don't bother with Bluetooth headsets unless you're willing to shell out some serious cash -- I got one of the cheaper ones and it crapped out after only a couple of weeks (when I was abroad and needed to skype my parents :().

I second the rallying cry for a USB-port microphone. From a purely podcasting standpoint, they have a number of advantages. For some reason, they cut down on feedback and deliver a more reliable sound.

From my experience, and I've gone through a lot of microphones since we started this PFW thing... (IMy parents have dogs. That eat microphones.), I wouldn't spend any more than $35. It's just not worth it to shell out anymore than that, and as long as you take care of it, your microphone will last. Also, brand names don't really matter all that much, though I will say that Logitech is usually much more comfortable than the competition.

Yeah, Logitech is looking like the winner here. There was that one really expensive one someone linked, but it's on resale for like $18-26. So I might look into that one.
