HEY FRIDGE FIXER GUY I WAITED FOR YOU ALL DAY, WHERE YOU AT? MAYBE I'LL JUST INSTALL THIS PANEL MYSELF! I DON'T NEED YOU! I DO WHAT I WANT! unless it's on a day when I'm supposed to hang around the house waiting for you

So tonight I'm listening to the podcast to see how it turned out--I think it'll be released this weekend?--and see just how awful I sound. It's not actually the sound of my voice that bothers me, the way a lot of people get bothered--I'm more worried about my actual intonations and speaking patterns making me sound like a dolt. So there's that. I might get a linkspam up later (wayyyy later), but if not, it'll go up tomorrow.

(Hee! I have so much more of a Southern accent than I thought I did. Particularly on the word "my." Mah journal, you guys. Y'all are readin' it now.)

Ooh, wait, you're doing a podcast? I missed something! I'll happily listen when it comes out! :-)

I still have your mp3 of Novellas of the Night from way back. You sound fine.

Haha, that totally came out like I was saying "You sound FOIIIIINE." Which I didn't mean, but now that you mention it...

I'm exactly the same way in regards to my recorded voice. I like the sound of my voice, provided I don't speak the way I converse. In conversations I'm higher pitched, faster, and try to mask my accent--I've been told that the masking makes me sound like I'm from California, which would make sense since I grew up watching TV. When I'm on the radio, I try to pitch lower and slower and smooth my accent down, but not entirely hide it.

Hee, yeah. I have been v. v. vague and mysterious about it, but some folks asked me to guest on their podcast. It's like 1hr:45m at the moment, so... there will be lots of it.

Heeeee. Well, that was scripted. I'm more worried about me babbling in circles on this one. Or sounding like an Alabama Valley Girl.

Yeah, I tend to sound kind of Cali, if only because I have that slightly stonerish vocabulary ("Dude! That is awesome!") if the Southern accent goes and hides. And yeah, when I read (or record a reading), I tend to go slower and enunciate more clearly.

I try to avoid hearing myself on tape because I feel like it doesn't sound like me, which is such a common complaint.

What are you podcasting about?

I miss my Southern accent...three+ years up in the land of Wisconsin has not been good for it.

Also, I tend to do the valley girl thing too. Particularly in overuse of "dude" or "totally".

Discussing fandom in general, but it's a Harry Potter podcast series. And we go into Twilight a good bit. It's all over the place, though, in a good way. And I break down (correctly, I hope) a number of Lexicon issues. You know, a week before the ruling comes down. *facepalm*

I am going to be sitting here waiting for your podcast..cause you can't have a worse speaking pattern than some of the history podcasts I have listened to.

:)

North Carolina - specifically Chapel Hill, so not quite as delightfully drawley as the rest of the state, but still. It's been noted up here that my accent comes back in very specific circumstances - if I talk with someone else with an accent, or if I'm discussing NC, the South, basketball, barbecue, or, well...pie.

(I want some pahhh, y'all.)

How does podcasting even work? Do you have to have a decent mic or something?

No worries mate, I'm certain that your AL accent is no worse than my SC one.

I tend to attempt to clear-ly e-nun-ci-ate each syl-la-ble when I'm speaking to non-Southerners, and therefore they end up thinking I'm from Great Britain or somewhere else. heh.

Pahhhhh! (Just, listening to this, it's hilarious--"my" and "I" are such dead giveaways that I'm Southern.)

I have a $9 microphone I got from Walmart or Walgreens or something, and it seems to have worked out just fine. It's so cheap-ass, and it seems to work fine. You also need headphones so that the people talking to you don't get recorded in the background on your end. Basically, they had me download Skype, which is like free phone calls computer-to-computer, and I cursed at it for three hours while I tried to figure out why it claimed my microphone was on "mute," and then I got it to work and it was dead easy. Like, imagine a chat room, only over the phone.

I wonder if it's anything like Vent. My friends and I used that for Warcraft raids. You press the alt key, I think, to talk.

Awww, everyone seems to be having a crappy sort of day today. Here's hoping tomorrow is better. Make a cup of tea and try to relax.

You did voiceposts a few times a long long time ago. I don't even know if it was on this journal.
