Urg, tired. Recovering a bit from 24 hours of uninterrupted dog. I did finally crate them and go sleep in my own bed, because I was trying to sleep on the couch and Shelby was sleeping on my feet (remember: forty-pound dog) and the cat was sleeping on my hip, and it just wasn't happening. I let Sam (the pomeranian) sleep on my bed, though, and he was v. v. pleased. I figured, though, that the dogs are used to being crated at night, so, you know: routine is comforting. And Sam usually has to get dragged away from my room to sleep in my parents', so it was like he got a treat. Speaking of treats, I survived through liberal application thereof. I probably gave out too many (we're talking Milkbones here), but I figured, you know, anything I had to do to get them to behave while I had no reinforcements.

Kept TCM on most of yesterday; watched Mildred Pierce (which I love, although I've never been able to figure out how Veda came to be such a class-obsessed hosebeast in the first place, since neither of her parents were), slept through Grand Hotel, to my great regret, and then watched Camille and the end of Kitty Foyle. At some point a movie about Woody Guthrie was on--made in the '70s--that involved a lot of punching and guitars. At one point, they punched a guitar. I'm not even making this up. And it just got more '70s from there, so I turned off the TV and tried to read more of The Victorian Underworld. And then Shelby sat on my head. And then I took that giant purple bath I mentioned, and Scout licked my ear the whole time. And now I've got a million billion emails and RSS feeds to check. So... linkspam's not going up today, let's put it that way.

But, from the NYT: Is the writers' strike over? No, for real this time? For really real? Shows that could start up production again this season.

oh man!

hal ashby, a very cool 1970s director (he helmed harold & maude and being there), was responsible for the woody guthrie movie. i've been looking for it for years, and i'm sorry to hear it's very 1970s.

My parents have that movie, and the parts I saw of it were good. David Carradine plays Woody, and supposedly his portrayal is right on the money. I think they got their copy on Amazon - either that or at an Arlo concert.

The Woody Guthrie thing is Bound for Glory, with David Carradine. Quite worth watching, when you're less sleepy.

Yay for TV! Too many more shows like My dad can beat your dad and I'd have to go to NBC myself and make them all die in a fire.

I'm pretty sure it's real, because this last my Inside Source said things were nearing a resolution.

Also ... if "Back To You" dies as a result of this strike, that will be just one more good thing to come out of it.

I just mean the show itself. I don't hope for the prompt yet slow and painful death of every last person involved with the making of the show. Let me rephrase: I don't NECESSARILY mean "the prompt yet slow and painful" etc.

You're definitely my #1 news source! Thanks for the writers strike links!

With Veda I always figured it is a little "Bad Seed" - she just had a personality defect that her mother's spoiling just made ten times worse that it would have been otherwise. She just got it in her pretty little head that she was better than everyone else. Her exposure to Monty and the things her mother did to her let her become the socialite-wannabe.

Such a good movie.

Aw. I dragged my laptop into my living room solely for the purpose of keeping tabs on your Grammy live blogging, but there doesn't look to be any (at least for the preshows). Are you going to blog it this year? *puppy eyes*

I don't know that I've ever blogged the Grammys. I tend to just stick with movies, I guess.

Ohh okay, well, I didn't know. I just assumed. Pretty dresses; celebrities, etc.

It's not all that thrilling so far, but apparently there's an Amy Winehouse performance coming up :S

Ha, I feel your pain. I've got an 80 pound lab and two cats who all believe the most comfortable spot in the world is a spot on or touching their mom.

...I need a bigger bed.

Writer's Strike

With the WGA going back to work very soon the mood here in Hollywood is bordering euphoric. My acting teacher, who pays the bills as a casting director, and his wife who works as a talent manager, are spinning blissful little circles. It'll be good to have the work coming back. On an interesting side note, audition notices for features went up about 30% and there were a number of features that were getting SAG scale budgets because their writers were non-union.
