I just read that this morning. I can't even imagine what it must be like, suddenly losing time, just like that. I hope she's able to recover, and soon, and that the silver lining might be that her surgery is pushed through.

When I click on the upload link every morning, I think of how great it would be if there were tens of thousands of people doing this faithfully, and how the goal could be reached so easily. It's wishful, but... Well, I once saw this Facebook group formed in order for a student to win a bet with his/her professor. The bet was that s/he could *get* 100,000 people to join a completely useless Facebook group, and the reward was a keg of beer.

It worked: 100,000+ people in less than two days. I wish that kind of momentum could be harnessed for Erin.

I would love to think that if it works on Facebook, it can work here, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Did Erin consider using Facebook as another way to spread the word? Is that something one of us could do to help?

Hearing about someone suffering so much because necessary medical treatments are unavailable to her makes me unbelievably angry. I wish I could do more to help than click a button, but if that is the only way I can help in this situation, I will continue to do so.

Here's a facebook group for it. I don't know if it's "official", but one does exist:

AHA! *joins*

Thank you. I'll try to encourage some real-life friends to do this through Facebook, too.

I'm on one of the Project Download groups on Facebook and we get emails every week to remind us to download.

I have a huge fear of amnesia. What's happened to Erin is my personal idea of hell. I'm just sickened that it's come to this and that someone who is so obviously sick can't get the medical care she needs in this country. Ugh.

Ugh, that's terrible. I hope she stored the password somewhere where we can still upload.

I asked about that at the comm--haven't heard an answer yet.

I hope you're holding up over there too -- been a little worried about you and that book. (Not about finishing it, about you driving yourself too hard amid the family distractions and now this.)

Well, like I said, I'm not working towards a 12/14 deadline anymore. I've actually been kind of taking it easy this week, besides working on something for Project Download (shhh).

Ah, I joined, and I see you got an answer and it's the right one. Yay!

In the "making lemonade out of lemons" category, someone over there pointed out that Erin gets to read HP 7 for the first time all over again. This is the only thing that's cheered me up at all today.

How frightening. I feel so terrible for her.

I know she didn't want to go media-big with this, for fear of losing medical help she has already, but...maybe now would be a good time to reconsider that? She clearly needs more help than she's getting, and I don't know that Project Download will work in time, if it works.

On a completely unrelated topic, my eyes are really tired this morning, and while this page was loading they were unfocused in the way I unfocus them when looking at a Magic Eye thing...did you know if you look at your background like it's a Magic Eye, the while ladies seem to float?

Just thought I'd share.

Both those links are friendslocked now...I hope nothing's changed for the worse. :(

Huh. Not sure what's up with that... I don't know if you saw the entries before they were locked, but basically, her friends are saying that Erin's lost about a year and a half of memory due to radiation-induced seizures, and now doesn't remember several of her friends, the guy she's in a relationship with (that's what I gathered, anyway), or Project Download itself. (When they told her about that last one: "Neil Gaiman? Are you shitting me?!" Awww.) The doctor thinks she'll regain her memory, but still.

I saw the first one, but the second had already been flocked when I tried to go there. Thanks!

I know someone else that the loss of memory thing has happened to. She lost a huge chunk of her adult life. I could see if she'd be willing to talk to Erin, if Erin wants someone to talk to who's gone through the same thing. Do you know her to talk to?

I know this would go against Erin's wishes for the media not to get involved, but if I hear one more word out of Mrs. Clinton's mouth about health care, I would be sore pressed not to email her a link to project download. Hell, any politician that spouts about health care. First one to get this girl the surgeries she needs gets my vote.
I think I'll email Sars instead. Better chance with her.
