Random fact: Maybelline's Shine Seduction gloss is fantastic. I got a tube in Spiced Potion, which turns out to be almost the exact same color as my actual lips, only awesome. Great texture, long-lasting, fantastic shine. I'm thinking about getting a second tube, but I'm not sure which color--the garnet, maybe? Hmm.

As much as I love James McAvoy (and want to bear his lovechild), I thought Joe Anderson (Across the Universe) had this Cobain thing in the bag. Guy looks just like him, and can sing.

So regarding the lip gloss - it's not sticky or anything? Because all my shiny lip gloss I love the look of, but when the wind blows my hair often brushes against my lips and it's not very pretty trying to de-adhere (unadhere?) gloppy strands of hair from one's face.
They claim it is non-stick, but I figure I'd ask anyway.

Also, Interview with the Vampire is not retro, what the hell. It was made, what, 1994? It's gotta be at least 20 years old before it's retro, in my opinion.

Well, pretty much any lip gloss is going to have some kind of stick factor, but yeah, it's really nice and smooth without being too slippery--I like Cargo's lip gloss, for example, but it's got a thin, buttery texture and doesn't last too long. The Maybelline is really nice.

The concept for Viva Laughlin was fun. Hugh Jackman is completely awesome, but not even he could save the show from the wretched acting of almost everyone else.

Ripley's casting was horrible unless they were going for poking fun at the stereotypes(which someone should have said), otherwise his over the top tough guy act was terrible. I had no sympathy for that character at all. I wanted Fontana to take his casino, his wife, his daughter and lure his son to the dark side. All before he got hauled off to prison after being successfully framed for murder. Not just because it was Hugh Jackman playing Fontana either.

And I simply could not watch Melanie Griffin. Her lips are too distracting. They're freakishly scary. I got that she was supposed to be an aging showgirl/floozy, but there had to be someone out there without lips that look like a botched botox treatment.

The people who were good, Jackman and D.B. Woodside were brilliant, served only to highlight just what voids of talent most everyone else was.

And gods and roses, if you are going to have people singing in the show, hire people who can actually sing. The one person in the cast we know can sing, and sing well, didn't! Why the hell was Tony award winning Hugh Jackman lip-synching? What was that about? But let's face it-it wouldn't have mattered. Most of American audiences just aren't ready for musical prime time.

There are episodes that were filmed that obviously won't be aired. Personally, I would like to have them on DVD. Just for the Jackman episodes, mind you... and the ability to skip over everyone else's wretched singing.

You know, the concept actually sounds like something I would like, but the two times I saw a commercial for it, it just looked... off, somehow. I can't quite explain it, but I got a really icky vibe from it. "Icky vibe"--even I can't explain what I mean by that. But I did.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest getting your paws on 'Blackpool' (I think it was called 'Viva Blackpool' when it was aired on BBC America?). It was brilliant, and, well, it had David Tennant, which is quite enough for many of us.

Date: 2007-10-24 02:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nohara-megami.livejournal.com
Ha! You beat me, I was about to say something about Blackpool XD

I loved Hugh Jackman singing in Viva Laughlin(well, him singing at all is awesome), but nothing beats all the David Tennant musical parts in Blackpool.

Date: 2007-10-24 03:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mycenae.livejournal.com
Agree with the others. Viva Laughlin did seem off. But Blackpool worked because David Morissey and David Tennat were excellent in their roles and just embraced the crazy. Also the supporting cast was top notch and it was a 6 episode series. I have no idea how CBS thought they could work this weird quasi-musical format for a whole season.

Why oh why do they still play the original songs under the characters singing? That was my problem with Viva Laughlin (the Hugh Jackson Sympathy for the Devil part, which is the only part I watched). I want to hear David Tennant and Hugh Jackman, not Nancy Sinatra and Mick Jagger, dammit!

Am I the only one who thinks that the gay character in Neverwhere is the Marquis of Carabas? Richard fell for Jessica and that Lamia woman, and he said gay, not lesbian. And I think the out characters are Croup and Vandemar.

Marquis de Carabas always struck me as the sort of Jack Sparrow character of Neverwhere, so that could fit. I definitely wouldn't be surprised... But I thought he kinda sorta had a thing with Hunter going on, if I remember correctly? I could be wrong, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I thought they had subtext. I got that from both the book and the mini, so...

I could feasibly see Angel Islington, too. Old Bailey is out of the question, since he loves his birdies too much. Croup and Vandemar? Totally shagging on the side. XD And if there's a lesbian character, well, I've got Serpentine pegged.

It's been a couple years since I've read Neverwhere, so maybe I need to go back and read it again.

I could have sworn there was a line somewhere in there about Hunter+girls. Something about some tiger or something Hunter had killed and the cute girl who was, significant pause, grateful? 'Course, I also had Croup and Vandemar figured for hetero lifemates of evil- well, maybe nonsexual lifemates of evil is more like it, I hadn't given any actual thought to their orientation- so apparently I have no radar. (Not really news, honestly.)
Anyway, in the second link Gaiman used a male pronoun, so not Hunter. Probably the Marquis- he could be Kinsey-5 and keep the subtext, if it was there- I don't remember anything in the book, but it's been a while, I was reading Hunter as lesbian anyway (might have been a touch of wishful thinking, come to think of it), and I've never seen the mini. (Is it any good?)

Hunter also had a thing with that noble woman with the snake emblems. The woman makes some comment about how Hunter was always pretty and she carts off Hunter's body in the end. So yea, Hunter is gay.

Oooh, I really like the Shine Seduction lip gloss. I have it in four colors (all of which were handed out for free at the mall- they were handed out by cute guys with messanger bags roving through the mall, and my friend and I wandered around trying to collect them all). The one I use the most is "Champagne Fizz" which is a great neutral for me that just adds shine. It's almost gone! I think I'm going to actually have to buy one now. I also have "Blissful Blush" which is a pale pink that lightens my lips a bit, and "Passion Petal" which is a good pinky-purple shade that's not too dark. I also have "Cherry Drizzle" which is a great red, expect it bleeds a lot and requires lip liner. My only complaint is they taste vaguely chemically, but no more so than most unflavored glosses/lip sticks.

I hate to overwhelm you any further, but I'm not sure how many people out there are aware how devastated the entire state of California is by all these huge fires burning (all poor interrupted TV show filming woes aside). Over 1,000,000 people have been evacuated last I heard (we're still waiting for a possible reverse-911 call in our area), and hundreds of thousands of acres have burned as there are now at least 10 major fires in the state burning out of control.

I also believe President Bush declared a state of emergency early yesterday morning. I've been told by many out-of-state friends that their news has hardly covered it at all, so it couldn't hurt to increase awareness, as the state is already in severe need of relief aid. Thanks. :)

Here's the thing about Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. I read it after reading Mystic River, which is one of the greatest novels EVER! Unfortunately, I read all the little blurbs at the front of the paperback that said how this book has THE BIGGEST AND MOST SHOCKING TWIST EVER THAT YOU WILL NOT SEE COMING !!!eleventy!!!

And because I was constantly expecting the twist, it wasn't all THAT impressive when I finally got to it. If I hadn't known the entire book was going to be twisted, it would have been awesome.

Not that this comment helps the situation.

Why can't reviewers just say "Trust Me, Read This Book" and be done with it?

Date: 2007-10-24 11:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rorqual.livejournal.com
I have to agree - I got Shutter Island on tape originally, because I had heard of the author and I like to listen to mysteries while driving (though I don't tend to read them, for some reason). Anyway, I had not really read any blurbs or anything, and I found that, expecting nothing more than what I thought it was, the book (tape) was very enjoyable and the twist was a good surprise. So, if you can try and let yourself just ease into the book, the atmosphere, etc etc, then it's quite good (I thought), and worth the read. Or, you know, the listen.
