I stayed up all night and I'm not even tired. I'll go into the McWane party and all that later; I just want to say a few quick things:
>> You know, in our rush to lay bets on whether Harry would live or die, I don't know that any of us stopped to consider that he might do both. Because if there's anything better than a tragic hero, it's a resurrected one. Harry Potter: Like Jesus, In a Way.
>> (Speaking of people who are Like Jesus, In a Way, can I just say that it was like the fucking Beatles came out of those packing boxes when they opened at 12:01? I've never heard screaming like that in my life. And people just kept screaming--you'd get a fresh wave every time a new gaggle got past the doorway into the Inner Sanctum Where They Keep the Holy Book. I swear to God, I have never seen anything like it in my life, and I might not ever see it again.)
>> Man, Rowling sure did stick to the Harry/Hermione shippers, didn't she? I mean, hard.
>> Sister Girl got about a hundred pages in, then went to sleep. She started screaming, literally screaming in the dead black middle of the night, when she got to Hedwig. I--I don't want to be here when she gets to Fred. I mean, Lupin'll be bad, but after Fred, I'm pretty sure nothing else will matter.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Date: 2007-07-21 12:26 pm (UTC)I had to bite my pillow from screaming so many times. And there were times I was crying so hard that I had to stop reading for 2-3 minutes because I couldn't see the page.
But it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Date: 2007-07-21 12:31 pm (UTC)What's funny is that I was so wrong on one theory, and couldn't see how it could be done the other way, but it turned out great. I guess that's why I'm not the author.

Date: 2007-07-21 12:32 pm (UTC)I must admit, I cried when Hedwig died. I cried when everyone died, particularly Harry, Fred and Snape. (SNAPE).
Urgh. And now I have to go back to RL on Monday and pretend that nothing happens because no one I know will have finished it yet. (One friend is kidding herself into thinking I will not spoil her until the MOVIE is released. Bwhahaha. What a joke. I'll be lucky to make it to Wednesday, let alone 2009/2010)

Date: 2007-07-21 12:37 pm (UTC)My boyfriend was hoping to get through the entire series (he hasn't read any yet - was waiting for this one) before I spoiled him. *snort* So I totally understand your "what a joke" comment ;)

Date: 2007-07-21 12:35 pm (UTC)Of course, the only Weasley that I predicted wouldn't die would be Fred... Geez.
I also posted someone online that I thought Molly might actually come through and rock the party Ripley style at the last battle. But that's not at LJ.
Oh, I had SO MUCH FUN this afternoon!!! I couldn't find ANYONE to talk about the book online, I finished so early and the majority of fandom hadn't finished, but I found people! I found people to discuss theory with and stuff and it was all great!
She sure did stick it to H/Hr fans thought, huh. Even not a R/Hr fan, I can appreciate the way that the first kiss happened. That's one good smooch.
My partner, who stayed in the other room in the apartment, had much amusement in 'listening' to me read the book. *g*
I, for one, really enjoyed it :)

I heard resports the epilogue was horrible, and they were right...WTF...the NAMES Of some of those kids....

And Percy - he's mine, so hands off everyone else. :P I always knew he'd redeem himself!!!

"YOU BITCH!"
Date: 2007-07-21 01:36 pm (UTC)I had a baby last year, and you guys, things in this book WRECKED me whereas before I would have been sad, sure, but now...I actually snuck into my kid's room to spy on him in his crib a few times. Especially when Remus-n-Tonks bit it. And reading the new details of the death of Harry's parents made me just a bit of an overwrought mess.
"Bad Ass Godfather Harry Potter and the New Adventures of Teddy Lupin." Bring it!
Re: "YOU BITCH!"
Date: 2007-07-21 05:59 pm (UTC)I would pay someone to write that fanfiction.

Date: 2007-07-21 02:20 pm (UTC)Haha, as always, I love your comments. Can't wait until you can ramble at length about the book. ♥
Just a quick note to attempt to save you from some drama: For whatever reasons considering poor mark-up, Facebook doesn't entertain LJ-cuts. By that I mean, if and when you import your note? There really isn't anything covering the spoilers.
I personally don't mind. I'm not even done, yet since 12:01 I have already read every spoiler in existence... (Some sort of weird controlfreak mechanism that makes me feel better than being unintentionally spoiler-ed.)
Anyway, just wanted to let you know. ^_^

Date: 2007-07-22 06:14 pm (UTC)I'm open to shipping as long as the story is good, so no pairing bothers me (except Maybe Hagrid and anyone... can't blame me for that)

Date: 2007-07-21 03:22 pm (UTC)My thoughts precisely. My sister wanted to know what was so funny, and I knew I couldn't explain it to her without explaining the entire plot of the book thus far, and outlining the last ten years' worth of wank and flamewar.
At least we saw Fred die. He didn't have a ripoff here-in-one-scene-and-then-he's-suddenly-dead-in-the-next-chapter-when-the-hell-did-that-happen
death.

Date: 2007-07-21 03:40 pm (UTC)YEAH she did. You could almost hear her talking to a crowd of H/Hr shippers going, "Harry's always loved Hermione as a sister. I thought you knew that.
Can't you read?" (sorry, H/Hr shippers, I'll be good now)I--I don't want to be here when she gets to Fred. I mean, Lupin'll be bad, but after Fred, I'm pretty sure nothing else will matter.
That's how it was for me. I play George Weasley in a couple of different RPGs (in one of which, Fred actually had died three years prior, that was rough) and...yeah. I didn't really care what else happened from then on in.
It scared me to the point where I called my boyfriend and said, "It's getting ugly here. If I don't make it out alive, I want you to know that I love you and you can have my battered and bloody Harry Potter book." He laughed. I don't think he realized I was serious >_>

Date: 2007-07-21 06:56 pm (UTC)Manohman, eight years after I read the first ones .....
Date: 2007-07-21 07:43 pm (UTC)The neighbors heard me cackling -- throughout the book, because there was funny stuff amid the horror and carnage.
And I won the only death pool I entered, by guesing the first to die. (Yes, Hedwig.)
I bet Draco Malfoy finds a receding hairline worse than death, but hey, maybe they won't have to wig Tom Felton for the movie's epilogue.
I do not envy whoever turns this into a film script. As written, it would be very, very expensive.
So, basically, I laughed, I cried, I made a list of the fab lines, and now I'm gonna read it again ..... even if I don't have a Kreacher to fetch me a sandwich.
Re: Manohman, eight years after I read the first ones .....
Date: 2007-07-24 04:53 pm (UTC)Although, a lot of people are saying she doesn't count because she was a brand new character, but *shrug.* Just saying. ^.^
