I stayed up all night and I'm not even tired. I'll go into the McWane party and all that later; I just want to say a few quick things:

>> You know, in our rush to lay bets on whether Harry would live or die, I don't know that any of us stopped to consider that he might do both. Because if there's anything better than a tragic hero, it's a resurrected one. Harry Potter: Like Jesus, In a Way.

>> (Speaking of people who are Like Jesus, In a Way, can I just say that it was like the fucking Beatles came out of those packing boxes when they opened at 12:01? I've never heard screaming like that in my life. And people just kept screaming--you'd get a fresh wave every time a new gaggle got past the doorway into the Inner Sanctum Where They Keep the Holy Book. I swear to God, I have never seen anything like it in my life, and I might not ever see it again.)

>> Man, Rowling sure did stick to the Harry/Hermione shippers, didn't she? I mean, hard.

>> Sister Girl got about a hundred pages in, then went to sleep. She started screaming, literally screaming in the dead black middle of the night, when she got to Hedwig. I--I don't want to be here when she gets to Fred. I mean, Lupin'll be bad, but after Fred, I'm pretty sure nothing else will matter.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Dude, Harry was pretty much the wizarding world's Jesus anyway, only fair she make it official!
And BIG HONKING SWORD FTW.

Where did the sword come from, btw? Last I saw it Griphook had run off with it...? Unless I missed something?

I stayed up all night too and finished about an hour ago. I can't sleep either.

I had to bite my pillow from screaming so many times. And there were times I was crying so hard that I had to stop reading for 2-3 minutes because I couldn't see the page.

But it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

My husband read 100 pages last night and went to bed while I stayed up and read. Now I'm waiting for him to finish the thing so we can talk.

What's funny is that I was so wrong on one theory, and couldn't see how it could be done the other way, but it turned out great. I guess that's why I'm not the author.

Book was released at 9am here, which meant I didn't have to stay up late to read it all in one sitting. It's so good, though!!!

I must admit, I cried when Hedwig died. I cried when everyone died, particularly Harry, Fred and Snape. (SNAPE).

Urgh. And now I have to go back to RL on Monday and pretend that nothing happens because no one I know will have finished it yet. (One friend is kidding herself into thinking I will not spoil her until the MOVIE is released. Bwhahaha. What a joke. I'll be lucky to make it to Wednesday, let alone 2009/2010)

I totally cried during the book too. I collected my copy at 9am this morning too, and was done at 2:45pm. I was bawling during the pensive chapter and the following chapter, and then the next chapter. A good mess for about 20 minutes I was. I was so SAD when Hedwig died!!

My boyfriend was hoping to get through the entire series (he hasn't read any yet - was waiting for this one) before I spoiled him. *snort* So I totally understand your "what a joke" comment ;)

I did! I did!! I lay a bet that Harry would have to die to KILL THE HORCRUX IN HIS HEAD and then be revived to kill Voldie!! I rock at prediction!

Of course, the only Weasley that I predicted wouldn't die would be Fred... Geez.

I also posted someone online that I thought Molly might actually come through and rock the party Ripley style at the last battle. But that's not at LJ.

Oh, I had SO MUCH FUN this afternoon!!! I couldn't find ANYONE to talk about the book online, I finished so early and the majority of fandom hadn't finished, but I found people! I found people to discuss theory with and stuff and it was all great!

She sure did stick it to H/Hr fans thought, huh. Even not a R/Hr fan, I can appreciate the way that the first kiss happened. That's one good smooch.

My partner, who stayed in the other room in the apartment, had much amusement in 'listening' to me read the book. *g*

I, for one, really enjoyed it :)

I do recall in the early staged of the book that I HATED Snape, I wanted to AK him myself.

But oh my God, he totally redeemed himself. All those Snape/Lily scenes broke my heart.

And Percy - he's mine, so hands off everyone else. :P I always knew he'd redeem himself!!!

Anyone else repress a delighted giggle when good ole Molly hollered it at Bellatrix?

I had a baby last year, and you guys, things in this book WRECKED me whereas before I would have been sad, sure, but now...I actually snuck into my kid's room to spy on him in his crib a few times. Especially when Remus-n-Tonks bit it. And reading the new details of the death of Harry's parents made me just a bit of an overwrought mess.

Dearest Cleo,

Haha, as always, I love your comments. Can't wait until you can ramble at length about the book. ♥

Just a quick note to attempt to save you from some drama: For whatever reasons considering poor mark-up, Facebook doesn't entertain LJ-cuts. By that I mean, if and when you import your note? There really isn't anything covering the spoilers.

I personally don't mind. I'm not even done, yet since 12:01 I have already read every spoiler in existence... (Some sort of weird controlfreak mechanism that makes me feel better than being unintentionally spoiler-ed.)

Anyway, just wanted to let you know. ^_^

Actually, we H/Hr 'shippers on LJ are pretty glad we're not canon, because most of us really disliked the way she wrote romance in this book and don't want canon if it's sucky canon.

Plus, it's canon that Voldemort's soul ships H/Hr. How cool is that?!

From: [identity profile] lemonade8.livejournal.com
LOL, you're right! Never thought of it that way. Voldy is a shipper. Or his horcrux is.

I'm open to shipping as long as the story is good, so no pairing bothers me (except Maybe Hagrid and anyone... can't blame me for that)

My thoughts precisely. My sister wanted to know what was so funny, and I knew I couldn't explain it to her without explaining the entire plot of the book thus far, and outlining the last ten years' worth of wank and flamewar.

I--I don't want to be here when she gets to Fred. I mean, Lupin'll be bad, but after Fred, I'm pretty sure nothing else will matter.
At least we saw Fred die. He didn't have a ripoff here-in-one-scene-and-then-he's-suddenly-dead-in-the-next-chapter-when-the-hell-did-that-happen

Man, Rowling sure did stick to the Harry/Hermione shippers, didn't she? I mean, hard.

YEAH she did. You could almost hear her talking to a crowd of H/Hr shippers going, "Harry's always loved Hermione as a sister. I thought you knew that. Can't you read?" (sorry, H/Hr shippers, I'll be good now)

I--I don't want to be here when she gets to Fred. I mean, Lupin'll be bad, but after Fred, I'm pretty sure nothing else will matter.

That's how it was for me. I play George Weasley in a couple of different RPGs (in one of which, Fred actually had died three years prior, that was rough) and...yeah. I didn't really care what else happened from then on in.

It scared me to the point where I called my boyfriend and said, "It's getting ugly here. If I don't make it out alive, I want you to know that I love you and you can have my battered and bloody Harry Potter book." He laughed. I don't think he realized I was serious >_>

I suspected, when Teddy was born, that there'd be a repeat of the Sirius-James-Harry situation. Not the delusional one, the one where Teddy ended up an orphan *sniff*. But when it said "apparently asleep" I thought, okay, they're sleeping, it's been a long day- stupid, I know. And then I read a few more lines, and it dawned on me- oh man. Oh, man. I assume Harry and Ginny raised him.

The epilogue was nice, though.

My book is not here yet!! FUCK YOU, AMAZON.COM. At this rate, I'll be the last person on earth to even read it.

I'm really kinda sad... that the carpet!book was the ACTUAL book. I was all over the craptastic book being the fake release like white on rice. Anyway. I'm glad that I own the book anyway all things considering 'cause I grew up with the series; I'm one of the people who can say they were into the books prior to the explosion of Potter-ness. I bought that shit in hardback, yo.

No matter how apathetic I feel towards this book, I can still say thanks for the great times, Rowling. It's been quite a ride.

Why is it referred to as "carpet!book"? Just curious.

I just finished. I may re-read it while I'm waiting for everyone else on my f-list to finish it too so we can talk about it.

Yeah, as soon as my eyes rest enough that I'm not seeing weird jumpy streaks, I'm going to reread it again at my leisure.

I stayed up all night, too, just like the last three books.

The neighbors heard me cackling -- throughout the book, because there was funny stuff amid the horror and carnage.

And I won the only death pool I entered, by guesing the first to die. (Yes, Hedwig.)

I bet Draco Malfoy finds a receding hairline worse than death, but hey, maybe they won't have to wig Tom Felton for the movie's epilogue.

I do not envy whoever turns this into a film script. As written, it would be very, very expensive.

So, basically, I laughed, I cried, I made a list of the fab lines, and now I'm gonna read it again ..... even if I don't have a Kreacher to fetch me a sandwich.

Hedwig isn't technically the first character we see die. It's that Muggle Studies teacher.

Although, a lot of people are saying she doesn't count because she was a brand new character, but *shrug.* Just saying. ^.^
