Well, as soon as I said I was terrified to write, I managed to go downstairs and scratch out 14-15 pages by hand. Granted, they weren't quality writing, but a lot of "idea writing" and problem-untangling got done. Today, about five or six pages. Actually, it seems to be the computer monitor that strikes cold, clammy fear into my heart, which still isn't great, because I've got to type up my notes before they get lost or dog-eaten or something.

What I particularly love is how it seems to stop about a third of the way through the video, and then it becomes apparent that the coil has just gotten to the bridge, and some guy to the left goes, "YEAHHH!" And then the last third is kind of like a Gothic solo encore or something. Awesome.

Isaac Newton calculated apocalypse. Is it weird that I don't want to know when the world's going to end, unless the answer is "Ten million years from now"?

From what it said in the article, Newton wasn't trying to calculate the date of the apocalypse but to debunk the nutbars who were constantly predicting it would be next week by showing that the earliest date consistent with the Bible was later than 2060.

(Newton: "It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner...This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail.")

Indy 4 is going to start shooting in my town (read: New Haven, CT) next Thursday and will wrap here on July 7. Apparently, one of the (early?) scenes from the movie has Dr. Jones teaching at Yale. There will be a car chase filmed in town, and they're recruiting around 500 extras for various scenes. The application to be an extra asked about being able to play football or cheerlead (for men and women, respectively). It also emphasized that any men who became extras would get "short, 50's style haircuts". Alas, I'll be out of town during the actual filming, but I'll see what insider gossip I can get out of my friends when I get back.

The interesting thing about the Waterstones etc "money for publicity" story is that it mentions one of the things you can buy being space on a table.

Interesting because that's precisely where I found your book. A little stack of them, sitting on a table in Waterstones. I mean, I had gone there looking for it of course, but there it was.

Weird--I know my publisher was supportive (I don't know *how* supportive, in the $$ sense), but I also wonder if the table space was due to a secret LJ supporter. I know at least two or three people told me they worked in bookstores and said they'd try to get me a good spot.

Love the artistic werewolf hunting box... I only caught two major glaring issues for me... muskets were still being used in the 1700's (no silver bullets... silver musket balls yes) and daguerreotyping hadn't even been invented yet... hence no photographs from the time period. Will has four siblings in the film -- the other four have evaporated into thin air. You'll notice that Merriman is short, dark and a little paunchy. The rest of the story has been changed radically to appeal to "contemporary" audiences (yeah, the original 1970s setting was so antique), which I suppose means "kids who like Harry Potter."

Feh.

So much good stuff in the linkspam today! I guess I'll take this by points:

-Werewolf Kit: DO WANT. Also, I'm looking at the Jasper Morello site and it appears that the DVD is only available in the Australia region? Damn, another reason for me to buy a region-free dvd player.

-Waterstone: publishing is one of those industries where the more I hear about it, the more depressed I get. How can they get away with something like that?

-Musical Tesla coil: awesome.

-Katie Leung: aw, that would be a shame, but I can see how that might happen, like Oliver Wood. Pity, she was really cute!

-New Batsuit: I like it. I wasn't sure about the bike-helmet look at first, but if it means that he can now actually turn his head, I'm all for it. The full cowl may look better in still photos, but it becomes a tad silly during action/fight scenes. Also, all the stuff being sloooowly released about the Joker and Harvey Dent, but especially the Joker (first official pic: not smiling, possibly pre-Jokerized, second pic: clearly full-on Joker, but very blurred behind foggy glass) seems to be calculated to slowly drive me insane. I take the on-scene report about Heath being so into character as to start smacking extras around to be a good thing, for now.

-Campbell not going to be in Bubba Nosferatu: NOOOO! What are they thinking? The performances were the reason why the first movie was so great in the first place!
