Huh. It's my half-birthday. Only eighteen months to go before I'm thirty and a complete failure (she said with a wink)! And congratulations to molliewollie and Hamburger Touchdown, whose day of birth literally is today!

Hey! I already have a Facebook! I had no idea! I really am senile!

And thus, I have used up my entire year's quota of exclamation points.

Also, tonight's Sister Girl's graduation buffet. This sounds kind of tedious until you remember that Sister Girl is graduating from cooking school. Basically, all the students have their friends and family come and stand around and eat their handiwork. Also, probably the only place you will find "minty rumballs." "I mean, the downside is that they'll have a lot of things I don't want to eat," she said--she's a pastry chef, keep in mind, and neither of us are all that het up about duck or veal, for example. "On the other, there's a whole room full of desserts." "On the other-other hand," I said, "minty rumbaaaaaaaaalls."

To that end, you get your linkspam early today.

Blog Like It's the End Of the World. I just can't get into it, sadly, even though there are zombies. I think my head's too deep in Black Ribbon at this point, and I probably need to stay there.

I turned thirty in April. In some ways, it was more ansgt-making than I could ever have imagined, and in other ways, it was like, Wow, this is really not the big crisis that I thought it would be.

This may be in part because when I was about twenty-eight, I made a sort of a deal with myself that I wouldn't freak out about being a failure till I was thirty-FIVE. ;)

I understand about the big 3-0 lighting fires under asses though, because in the past couple months I've had more of a "time to treat this would-be writing career like SERIOUS BUSINESS" attitude than ever in my life before.

I am a bit confused about the "no girlfriend for three years" thing. Is that the actual SENTENCE? If so, and he has the money to appeal ... I really don't think that would stand up to appeal. And even if he has no money, I can imagine a lawyer taking that up pro bono just for the civil liberties issues it raises.

Do I have a right to have a girlfriend? No, of course not -- no more than I have a right to happiness (just the pursuit of happiness). But does the *government* have a right to PREVENT me from having a girlfriend? "Ish don't think so."

'' Justice Rhys Morgan said Cranley "cannot form a romantic relationship of an intimate nature with a female person." ''

I presume the intended words were "may not" rather than "cannot." Otherwise, it's not an order; it's just a statement.

"form" -- so something pre-existing is OK?
"romantic" -- so if it's non-romantic (a financial transaction, say) it's OK?
"intimate nature" -- does this mean kissing on the cheek is OK?
"female" -- so he's allowed to have boyfriends?
"person" -- or relationships with farm animals?

It turns out the projectionist isn't so much fired as he's not going to get any more chances to run the projector at preview screenings, which actually suppliment his income to a level he can live at. I don't feel bad for the projectionist--he has a child to support and he's been risking his job to play AICN Spy. Is it really worth it risking his job and his family's welfare to announce that a movie sucks to an audience that's pretty much going to see it anyways?Jason Jeffery Wigand he's not.
