OMG! I did not know Eva Green was in this! I <3 Eva Green!

... I really don't want to watch this movie. I have problems with Pullman. Granted, I really enjoyed the Golden Compass, but my distaste for Pullman himself has colored my opinion of the later books too much. But. But. There are far too many good actors here. woe.

I have some Pullman issues too, but the great thing here is that they're probably going to find a way to sidestep the religious "We have to kill God!" stuff. All you'd have to do is turn "the Church" into a big government agency, focus on the literal plot elements (capture! rescue! escape!), and they could probably get at least halfway through Subtle Knife before they really had to do some rewriting. So much gets lost when you adapt a book to two hours of film that I could see the controversial aspects falling away pretty easily.

Is that Gustav Holst I hear in the beginning?

Daniel Craig has like, what, three lines and already I'm in love with him in this movie. Is it December yet?

It definitely was. Which was a perfect thematic choice, in my opinion. And a tag of Hans Zimmer at the very very end. Kind of a whole name-that-temporary-score thing, very well done.

Zomg so awesome! Oxford! Lyra! Iorek!

But where is Pantalaimon in all this? I hope they're not going to downplay the daemons too much..

I thought I saw Pan near the end! A daemon who goes from a small animal to a bigger one--I honestly think all the daemon CGI just isn't finished yet, and they knew they had to have several good shots of Iorek for the trailer, so they worked on him first. Honestly, the daemon aspect seems like one of the most promising from a marketing POV, so I can't believe they'd drop that. Hell, they had a "What's your daemon?" quiz on the official movie site.

I feel good that they used the word "heresy" already, here in the first trailer. Am I naive for thinking that holds promise for the trilogy's themes?

Now that you mention it--yeah. My money's been on the filmmakers leaving out as much of the religious aspect as they can get away with, so it'll be interesting to see how they navigate that issue.

The CGI strikes me as a little bit iffy, but considering how awesome Eva Green looks, it's all good.

Ohhh!

Shiny! I do not have a single complaint, looks VERY promising.

My only worry is that people will slowly be tired of "this year's big fantasy" release, especially after Narnia and Eragon were merely Okay.
Let's hope it doesn't bomb.

You didn't care for Narnia? I thought it was actually one of the best book-to-movie adaptations we've seen in years. But I won't defend Eragon - that looked hilariously awful.

ZOMG! I cannot wait for this movie! And it looks like they're being pretty faithful to the book. I'm not sure how I feel about Iorek yet but I hope they'll clean up the CGI before the actual trailer and movie release.

Is my monitor off, or do many of the characters' eyes look yellow?

It's definitely visually gorgeous, but I'm wondering whether the CGI is a little overdone - a few of the backgrounds, though amazing, are giving me Star Wars vibes. Can't wait to see it, though!

IOREK! SERAFINA KICKING ASS! DANIEL CRAIG! How to pronounce "Alethiometer"!
I had some reservations about the girl who plays Lyra, but she looks good. Although I'm not a huge fan of the way Oxford's looking, and I still wish Lee was younger, but OMG YAY!

Woo hoo! I wish I hadn't shipped all the books to my friend in England, because I am such a good, sharing person - who now doesn't have the books! In this time of need!

And yes, I think that was Pan, going from small to slightly larger. I suspect you're right about the CG.

Believe it or not, I've pretty much ignored this title up 'til today. I don't know the books, I haven't looked at anything about the movie. Out of sheer curiosity, however, I checked out the trailer.

I'm afraid I'm now required to see this movie. Too many cool people, too much eyecandy.

(I agree, though: Some of those CG backgrounds are very Prequel Trilogy, ain't they?)

I have a big love/hate relationship with this series, because of what you aluded to up topic. I was fully invested in the series when I got to the end and felt hit over the head with Pullman's message. Misguided and iron-fisted Church as villian= awesome. God as villain... excuse me, ineffective, infantile invalid kept artificially alive and therefore the root of all evil, not so much. (Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a lighter hand could have avoided the soapbox.)

But, the fact that Hollywood is chicken--and that I know what's up going in--makes me think that I'll enjoy the movies a lot. Plus... Daniel Craig. So, yes, I think this may make up for what they're doign to my beloved The Dark Is Rising.

So, so, so pretty.

Oxford's a little overly done in some of the shots, I think (so much glass! Are there that many spires?) but that's overwhelmed by the prettyyyyy.

Oh lord, that's beautiful. I was already so excited for this movie, but this... just kicked it up another notch or three. I was a little wary about the CGI daemons and Iorek, but it looks like they've done a pretty good job of it. And Oxford looks utterly gorgeous. I'm so pleased with this cast.
