I actually turned down a movie outing to work on my Pixel-Stained Techopeasant piece for tomorrow, so y'all better enjoy the hell out of it.

You think I'd say something like that and then toss you some random poem?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Fifteen Minutes.

Neat! So this isn't going in the book, then?

By the way, when did you first post this? The date says 8:18pm, but it wasn't there when I checked around 10pm, and it's after a 9pm entry on my flist? *confused*

So, I opened my Friends page, and immediately saw three Cleo entries all in a row, and was like "What's up?" then I saw one was in m15m, THEN I realized it was GOF in 15, and I was like SQUEEEE! *reads* Thank you =D

It was after nine, but before 9:30, IIRC. And yeah, the book-writing has dragged on so ungodly long that it doesn't make any sense to use GOF now when Order of the Phoenix is about to come up, and the book could not physically be published before 2008 anyway. And when the technopeasant thing turned up, I thought, well, 300 didn't get quite the traffic I wanted (and that's probably because I don't post often enough), but POA still gets about one comment a week nearly three years later. So, you know, if you don't want people to forget about you entirely, Potter's a good way to go.

I'm saving this for Wednesday when my main source of Internet entertainment at work will be offline for an upgrade, but I just wanted to say that I love you already (again) for doing this.

Ha, screw it. I'll find something else to keep me occupied Wednesday. *dives in*

Makes sense. I think you're right about traffic dropping off, but I'm pretty sure it will come back if you do a succession of posts like this. (See: career of Apple, Fiona.) I think the cache on my browser is/was screwed up.

Thing is, I really did feel like I was straining to write this one so soon after 300. I probably shouldn't post more than one a month max, if that often. I also worry about repeating myself--I stole referenced a ton of lines from the book in this one as it was--and having a lot of space between posts helps that. At the same time, if you don't post often enough, no one's around to see you successfully not repeat yourself, so...

Thank you so much!

I laughed like a maniac throughout, but "L'awkward" and "This-this is not mellow!" really had me rolling in aisle, as it were. (By the way, did "not mellow" mirror "This is not groovy at all!" on purpose? I thought that was a great parallel, if it did).

Yeah, there's truth in all that. One thing that occurred to me is that you might want to try some other kinds of writing or parody, just to keep things fresh. (Your Nancy Drew piece comes to mind.) There have been so many M15s now that, aside from the book which reaches a slightly different audience, there's a risk of fatigue. If you play around with some new forms in addition to the M15s, it might help keep things fresh.

Oh well, you do make fun of everybody, so I guess it's okay.

And I still haven't bought that Riddle Graveyard Lego set with Uncontrollably-Sobbing Harry Potter figure. (evil grin)

Yeah, I could try another Nancy Drew-style outline. The problem is that that whole kind of thing happens completely spontaneously, never because I planned it--which is how Van Helsing happened in the first place--so it's difficult to plan that kind of thing, you know? I could look into some different formats, though, and still post them on the m15m comm.

From: [identity profile] particle-person.livejournal.com

Yeah, I know. Sigh. I'm kind of getting the impression that you're constraining yourself a little, is all. You're a professional writer now, so pretty much anything you write is going to be decent, even if it doesn't blow your own socks off, so I think you can afford to experiment a little. (You were talking on SF recently about tricks to psych yourself into writing -- if you outright tell people that you're doing writing experiments, that might free you up to not worry about it? Basically don't treat them as "real" pieces, just scraps. Then if you do find something workable, it could be expanded. I'm totally brainstorming out loud here, heh.)

You know, I was actually hoping that people would get that I was trying to poke fun at Obligatory French Surrender Jokes, while at the same time trying to point out how odd it was that Fleur seemed to punk out at every possible opportunity (because she's French? Because she's a girl? I don't know). The problem is, there's a really fine line between making fun of tired jokes and actually making the joke yourself, and it's also kind of a cop-out, in a way--having your cake and eating it too, you know? "I get to make fun of you for making that joke, but I get to make it myself."

Date: 2007-04-24 08:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah, I know what you mean. I actually have a few books of writing exercises I could try--there's lots of fun ones, like outlines or imaginary indices or tables of contents or whatever. I could see doing a modified index for a book adaptation ("WEASLEY, RON: 'Bloody hell,' 3, 5, 8, 12, 23, 35..." etc., although that's a weak example). The advantage of new formats would be that anything other than a 15M would probably be a lot shorter, and therefore could be 1) obviously experimental/throwaway and 2) easier to write more of. I'll try to stay in a more open mindset, but basically it's just going to depend on what happens the next time I watch a movie.
