It was the Ides of March today, and also what would have been Lucky's tenth birthday. I didn't have time to think much about that, though, because Shelby broke loose and got into the Big Dog food one hundred times too many and had a really, really badly upset stomach. She was perfectly healthy, wrassling with Scout all day; she just also bombed the kitchen while she was at it. It took me an hour to clean it all up, and that's with a bottle of Comet scrub and a bucket of Mr. Clean. Fortunately, my mother made an executive decision at lunch to haul both of the puppies off to the vet and get checked out, which meant that I had a blessed, blessed afternoon all to myself to check my email and sleep, basically. I spend a lot of the day chasing them around and popping them on the nose (with one finger, so it's not like I'm smacking them) and telling them not to eat the spathiphyllum and not to eat the kitty litter and not to snap at Meko, and then on top of that, today they figured out how to open the door to the laundry room. This is where the cat's litter is kept--it's one of those automatic boxes with the self-combing mechanism--but there's not a lockable door, just a sliding wooden one that doesn't have anything to catch on. But still, you know, they don't have opposable thumbs or anything, right? I'll just open it when Bad Cat scratches on the door, which he immediately figured out he should do, and that'll be it, right? Nope, I hear the puppies rumbling around in the laundry room, playing in the litter grit. I still don't know how they opened it, but somehow, they did. And this is not even getting into how I have to take them and the poms outside on separate shifts, so I'm usually wiping up someone or other's wet spot on the carpet at any given moment.

POTC3 pics from the other day: Since they seem to have been removed--and posted elsewhere, but I couldn't get that page to work--I've uploaded my entire collection to sendspace. This includes the concept art with the ridiculously buxom Elizabeth that was also removed a while back, but no behind the scenes images, just official photography. I think the file will expire after a week, so grab it while you can. ETA: This just in: two more that I didn't have.

A really terrible story about a missing dog I wanted to set apart. Skip on down to the rest of the news if you don't want to see it: Girl finds missing dog's head in box on doorstep. "Two weeks ago, a gift-wrapped box was left at the house Crystal shares with her grandmother. The box had batteries on top, and a note that said 'Congratulations Crystal. This side up. Batteries included.' " What. The fuck.

You articulate what I thought to myself when I read the first few lines. *gags*

It really hit home, because in middle school, kids threatened to do this to my Baby (my kitty). I always feared they would, and this story sent a cold chill down my spine because someone - somewhere - did.

First: The dog thing, I work for a National DV organization and I have to tell you, the articles don't mention it, but this sort of thing can be indicative of an abusive ex-boyfriend. It was a bad week for women, with the woman in Wisconsin getting killed at the police station, and the woman in Boston being blown up by her exboyfriend in her building's elevator. The time immediately after seperation are most dangerous for people leaving abusive partners- remember 25% of women will be victims.

ANd now for something completely different-I laughed so very hard out loud at the 300 Macros, my husband is playing Warcraft with headphones on in the other room and he heard me. Thank you for making me less distraught.

Oh, god, the "music used in movie trailers" thing is such a trigger for me. I'm always ticked that trailers use music that doesn't even have the decency to be IN THE MOVIE; there was a musical segment from the Aliens soundtrack that showed up in action film trailers even more than O Fortuna ever did. And coincidentally, when I first saw the trailer for Ever After, I actually said something to the effect of, "OMGWTF you KNOW that Loreena McKennitt's The Mummer's Dance, which I LOVE, isn't even IN the actual film, STFU. Pissed now."

Ever After? Possible the group Texas or Robert Miles. I had a bunch of their music back in the day before some ass broke into my car and stole all my cd's. I know the song on the credits was by Texas and the more electronic music was by Robert Miles...if my memory is to be trusted. Great great music all around. I was quite obsessed with both of them after that movie.

Ok...I just found the Texas song. It is called "Put Your Arms Around Me" (http://www.last.fm/music/Texas/_/Put+Your+Arms+Around+Me) Otherwise it would probably be the Robert Miles song "Fable".

Old Dog figured out the sliding door trick a while back--apparently she paws at the crack between the door and the wall or between doors until it's large enough to put her nose in, and then levers the door open that way. She's a collie mix, though, so she has quite a long nose to work with--I'm still trying to fathom how your puppies managed it.

I like Kirsten Dunst, but I don't know if she's got a Debbie Harry biopic in her.

See, this is why I hate biopics in general. No matter how charismatic the actor they pick, that person is probably going to fall short of the charisma generated by someone who's intriguing enough to make a movie about.

I'm willing to bet a good deal of money that the dog head in the box was done by one of the girl's classmates as a form of extreme bullying.
