Today was eventful, in a domestic kind of way. Number one, I actually got some work done, although it was preliminary kind of stuff--printing out old notes and half-drafts, rereading and annotating, setting up a new binder for [project I'm being intentionally vague about for fear of jinxing it], etc. Meanwhile, the puppies learned to climb up the front steps by themselves and how to body-slam each other; at one point Shelby actually flipped Scout over like a turtle. And then, after George came home, Scout jumped Sam, and just when Sam had fended that attack off, Shelby pounced from behind. The puppies have learned how to tag-team, y'all.

And yes, I do have pictures, but only on my camera phone, and I can't get the phone to send them to my email. Woe, because I have pictures of all five (!) pets now.

Since we were discussing it the other day: The difference between the "hard R" and "soft R." Or my understanding of the difference, anyway.

Oh, Cleo, didn't you make some POTC 3 icons awhile back? Because I'm looking for some and don't know where to find them.

It's a measure of my geekery (and my major) that upon seeing "Hard R" vs. "Soft R", I immediately starting thinking in linguistic terms...and then was very much confused when I clicked on the link.

Wait, it's not about linguistics? What the heck is it, then? *runs off to pursue the link*

... oh. Well. In retrospect, it makes sense.

I can't stress enough how wonderful Evil Dead: The Musical is. I have a friend who was subbing for wardrobe on the show, so we saw it quite a few times. Such a shame it closed so quickly.

Can't wait for the soundtrack so I can sing "All The Men In My Life Keep Getting Killed By Candarian Demons" all day.

I don't usually comment here, but I glanced at the "hard/soft R" debate literally just after watching "This Film Has Not Been Rated." It's a really interesting documentary that discusses what makes some movies "R" rated while others merit the dreaded "NC-17" rating. It's out on DVD and I got it through Netflix... take a glance if you get a chance. Forgive me if someone has already brought this up.

I kind of figured the "hard R/soft R" thing would come down to the F word. I'm probably in the minority, but I really don't see what the huge deal is with the F word. I love the F word, but I don't think it's as horribly evil as people make it out to be. Words only have power, bad or otherwise, if you let them have power.

Whoa, Keira. Tanning inspiration should not be taken from Michael Kors, really.

The hard R/soft R thing still seems a little like making things too complicated, especially since the R rating is followed by an explanation of why it's R-rated. I get why someone would want to make a distinction, but eh. Maybe lightening up on the PG-13 rating wouldn't be good either, I dunno.

OMG NEW BOURNE FILM YAY

*ahem* Sorry, but I adore the first two, and Supremacy was on TV the other afternoon and I thought "aren't we due for the third movie?" and I check online and it's this summer omg yay! :D The poster is a little misleading though--apparently this one will involve as much globe trotting as the others (again: yay!).

...now that my moment of fangirling is out of the way:

As far as the hard vs soft R thing is concerned, it occurs to me that this could be best solved by adopting dual ratings similar to the 15 and 18 ones the UK uses. This could also solve the problem of those PG13 movies that often stand very close to the line without somehow becoming R. As it stands it sounds like we're in for another rehash of the X to NC-17 thing. :|

I read a book recently, that reminded of you: Confessions of a Teen Sleuth (http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Teen-Sleuth-Chelsea-Cain/dp/B000MTEWNU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-7585450-4188939?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173869363&sr=8-1). It's basically a send up of the genre, told from the "REAL" Nancy Drew's perspective, and parts of it had me laughing so hard I woke people up. It's not new, but it's good. Highly recommended for anyone who has every read a Nancy Drew novel. I've read one, and I got most of the things, but I did have to reference a librarian(my mom :D) to get a few things. A++++++

There would be something kinda hilarious about Jessica Lee Rose being the next Bond girl.

"P. Monkey here seemed bored today, so I took him to the movie theater. We watched three movies, but I only paid for one. Is that bad? Oh, well. Have you ever seen P. Monkey eat popcorn? He eats like a monkey! Oh, P. Monkey, I'm sorry, I didn't mean that in a bad way.

"Did I mention that I killed an Iranian spy last night? Yeah, sliced off his head with a piano wire I keep hidden in P. Monkey's belly. Isn't that right, P. Monkey? Yes it is, yes it is.

"Oh, Danielbeast seems to be waking up, so I'll have to tell you the rest tomorrow. Bysies!"

Project, you say? Hmm . . .
I've never really been able to get into Pullman's books, but I'm reading Golden Compass now, just for the movie. Nicole Kidman looks eeeevil enough to play Mrs. Coulter, direspancies in looks aside.
So, CI is telling Smith's story? Law&Order already did that with Daniel Smith (before Anna died) I wish they'd bother to make up their own plots- it's getting to be "let's prosecute celebrities that got off in real life!" So for, they've jailed Mel Gibson's fictional alter ego, and it was pathetically obvious that that was what the episode was based on. They've also done storylines on:
A starlet who came under public scrutiny for dropping her baby (and having someone who took pictures of the incident killed)
Another starlet who adopted a baby from Africa illegally (and took such poor care of him that he died, causing her to go to jail for manslaughter)
An athlete who was suspected of murdering his wife, then wrote a book about how he would have done it (and murdered the publishing assistant who tried to stop it from hitting the shelves), and
A right-wing pundit, who was shot at for her views on stem-cell research. WHo was blonde. And had a history of being controversial. She was played by Charlotte Ross, and the resemblance is uncanny/
I'm worried that, after POTC2, the third one is going to be even worse. And the second one almost put me to sleep.

The thing about CI is that they don't even attempt to be sly about things. The orignal L&O did the same 'ripped from the headlines' stuff, but wasn't so ridiculously OTT about it.

Generic Zoloft update

I have learned an important thing about generic Zoloft. You know how, if you don't swallow it down right away and with plenty of water, Zoloft does that Comet-cleanser-and-pepper thing in the back of your throat? Well, the generic pills are larger, and need even more water to avoid this. Insufficient liquid can leave them stuck halfway down, forcing you to race for the icebox and a good fat swallow of Diet Pepsi. It can also cause you to cough while trying to swallow the stuck pills and Diet Pepsi, sending diluted meds and soda straight into your sinuses. Which will burn for hours, no matter how much more your drink.

Avoid that, is what I'm saying.

Aw, hell, that's exactly like the doxycycline I was taking for my cat bite. I actually did cough half a doxy back up, and my God, it had been a while since I'd felt pain like that. I must have chugged about six glasses of water. And then I threw up. Which burned even more. Good times.
