Whee! I get an hour and a half off from dogsitting! And how am I spending it? With a frozen yogurt sundae and pirate porn. Yeah, this is not how I expected my afternoon to go.

It's slightly disorganized, but I think this takes care of my backlog, after some careful pruning of redundant redundancy.

Comedian Richard Jeni dies in apparent suicide. CNN remembers a few of his best lines ("I always look for a woman who has a tattoo. I see a woman with a tattoo, and I'm thinking, OK, here's a gal who's capable of making a decision she'll regret in the future").

A couple of new POTC3 posters in the mix at IGN. Hi-res versions here. Meanwhile, Disney Angered Over Comic Pirates Porn. "Filmmakers Disney are reportedly considering legal action against Sinful Comics after they produced a raunchy strip featuring Pirates Of The Caribbean actors. British newspaper The Sun reports Sinful have created a comic strip, which sees movie beauty Keira Knightley being seduced by co-stars Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom at the same time." I regret to say that my first reaction to this item was, "And we can see this where?" (ETA: Oh dear. Seriously, you guys? They're not kidding. Not safe for work or perhaps even life.)

I don't care how many pictures I see, I don't get how that toyger is any different than all other tabby cats in the Humane Societies around the world. It's not even that much stripier than my Scottish fold mongrel cat. I call shenanigans.

Okay, when I read "Gyllenhaal in Final Talks To Replace Holmes in Batman sequel", I was thinking Jake Gyllenhaal (I saw Zodiac last week) and I couldn't... quite... figure it out. Now there's a Batman movie I'd actually want to see.

I had the same reaction to the pirate porn (having read a number of fics based on the same premise) so thanks for providing the link so I don't have to go hunting in porn shops for the hard copy.

Haven't looked at it yet, though, as I am at work. Am equal parts intrigued and frightened.

Whoa, that pirate porn was definitely porn... like dirty old man porn, not girls on the internet porn, either. I feel squicky now.

Cleo (and friends of Cleo,) quick question about The Prestige. I swear to God that when I saw the film in the theater, you saw Christian Bale do the whole Transported Man trick the first time it is introduced. Watching my new dvd the other night, the scene only showed Michael Caine's reaction to the trick and showed the whole trick later in the film, when CB's life flashed before his eyes. Am I misremembering, or did they edit this part of the film for the switch to DVD?

Date: 2007-03-12 09:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] laurelin-kit.livejournal.com
No, they didn't edit it. I thought it was odd when I saw it in theaters too and kept convincing myself that you saw the trick earlier on.

Well, in my area you can get it at the Adult Video Megaplex, which is actually a very upscale, sanitary sort of establishment.

And I really reccomend it. It's like they took a pretty funny Pirate movie and a Pirate porn and just kinda smushed them into one awesome movie.

Eh, good Transformers porn is enjoyable and usually quite creative with them being machines that turn into other things. And bad Transformers porn is much like other kinds of bad porn. It just sometimes gives them penes and breasts under the armor.

I *do* kind of wish they'd start distinguishing between "R for sex" and "R for violent content". I don't care if my (hypothetical) kids see nekkid people or swearing, but I do worry about the glamorization of casual violence when it's marketed to young kids.

Update on the Sorority of Asshattery (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/13/education/13sorority.html?ex=1331438400&en=2c43a1a3a363ac3d&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink)

After Evicting Members, Sorority Is Itself Evicted

DePauw University severed ties yesterday with a national sorority that evicted two-thirds of the university’s chapter members last year in what the sorority called an effort to improve its image for recruitment, but which the evicted women described as a purge of the unattractive or the uncool.
...
In an interview, Dr. Bottoms said that beginning this fall Delta Zeta would no longer be permitted to house students in its Greek-columned residence on the DePauw campus in Greencastle, Ind. Only a handful of undergraduates are currently living in the Delta Zeta house, and four of them are seniors, Dr. Bottoms said, adding that the university would help any women who had been planning to live in the residence next year to find alternative housing.
...
In a message posted on its Web site this month, the sorority said: “Delta Zeta National apologizes to any of our women at DePauw who felt personally hurt by our actions. It was never our intention to disparage or hurt any of our members during this chapter reorganization process.”
...
In addition to the apology, the sorority posted on its Web site statements critical of the women forced out of the DePauw chapter and of faculty members who supported them. In the letter sent to Delta Zeta yesterday, Dr. Bottoms cited the sorority’s decision to publicize that criticism as contributing to his decision.
