Someone in previous comments brought up the idea of doing some kind of podcast, but I have no idea what I'd say; I don't think I've ever even listened to a podcast before. But I actually like doing readings and recordings and things, so it's an interesting idea. Thoughts?

Before we get started, a quick note: I appreciate anything you feel is interesting enough to pass on, but--don't feel like you have to do the work for me. I have a ton of feeds on Google Reader, including CNN, USAToday, Defamer and Gawker, Yahoo! Picks, Snopes, Entertainment Weekly and a number of blogs and movie news sites; it's really easy to cherry-pick the best items. And you can imagine the number of stories I don't use. Obviously if you find something really interesting off the beaten track, I want to know about it, but... I'm just saying, I've got most of it under control.

Tornadoes rip through Ala., killing 18; Tornado survivor: School 'was complete chaos.' Enterprise got hit really hard, and several people died at the high school. Birmingham wasn't even touched--we had a rain/strong wind combo and my internet went out for a few hours--so we were very fortunate.

[livejournal.com profile] roseredhoofbeat: "This is a website dedicated to [seeking justice for] the torture and death of a three-month old puppy. I won't go into graphic detail, but the website does, so please be careful, anyone who goes to it. You can send an email to the judge asking him to stick to his original sentence of ten years in prison and ten years probation. PLEASE post this with your next linkspam." ETA: I took one for the team and found the actual page where you can get involved, no torture necessary.

I passed it on in my own journal, and jokingly told my artist friend [livejournal.com profile] dino_rider to draw a picture of a hippo and tortoise being friends. Also, Dane Cook is somehow in this), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or "TMNT," as the commercial trailer announcer always intones so seriously).

Daniel Radcliffe Signs For Harry Potter Six and Seven. Yes, he'll probably be about 22 by the time the last movie comes out. If the Beverly Hills 90210 kids can all be in their frickin' thirties, I'm thinking we can allow a seventeen-year-old character a little actorly age inflation.

Pirates MMO clarification: I mentioned a "Pirates of the Burning Sea" multiplayer game yesterday--I don't think I actually said this, but I was blithely assuming it was the Disney game. After some discussion in the entry comments, I realized: Disney wasn't mentioned anywhere in the article, nor was the phrase "of the Caribbean," and the URL was entirely different from the Disney site URL for the other game. Even at the time I saw the new article I thought, "The Burning Sea? The POTC people can't think of anything better than that, when they've got Dead Man's Chest and At World's End? " What I'm saying is, there are actually going to be two pirate-themed MMOs on the interwebs at the same time (this summer). You see why my brain developed a glitch while trying to process this concept.

I don't want to go to the website of the puppy being tortured and eventual death being inflicted, because I don't want to go into hysterics at my day job. However, is there a way that you can link to the judge's email or a site where you can support the decision to keep that sick fuck locked away?

Something about the wording of the puppy thing strikes me wrong. Might "dedicated to the memory of" work better?

caveman TV? I'd watch that.

Also, 24 in southpark? I'll probably watch that. I'm not a huge Southpark fan, but I'm a huge 24 fan. *sigh* The simpsons are spoofing it, too, this year.

THANK YOU. Seriously, I've been saying that for a while now, exactly with 90210 as the example. If two 30-year-olds and however many 20-somethings can hold our belief as 16-year-olds, then I'm pretty sure that unless Daniel sprouts two feet, overbulks with Quidditch-toned muscles and looks like 30 at age 22, he can pull off 17 five years after the fact.

*lol* I'm just sayin'.

Much better. It's not that it was completely off or anything, but it's one of those that you had to be all, "wait, what?" and read over.

Also, that Hera statue bears an uncanny resemblance to a drawing I did last year, from robes to armrests. Freaky. I wish I hadn't given the damn thing to my history teacher...

And for that, you rock.

(I, of course, had to read the torture details anyway, because when you've got an anxiety disorder like mine, you know that Not Knowing will cause your brain to imagine much worse horrors than what actually happened. And even though the details had NOTHING on my OCD-induced imaginings, they STILL made me want to vomit.)

I've noticed from the icons in your comments that you have more than a few Doctor Who admirers (myself included). I don't know if you yourself are much into Doctor Who, but I saw this interesting article this morning that says that the BBC has contracted with Google to allow archival and special edition video clips to be placed on youtube.com. I suspect much rejoicing will be heard throughout the lands when this hits fandom.

Friends of mine work for Flying Lab, the company creating Pirates of the Burning Sea, and the game is full of awesome. I cannot allow myself access to MMOs because I would never leave my room again, but the details and stories I've heard about are incredible, and this game will blow the (supposedly slapdash) Disney Pirates MMO out of the water. Just as a random commendation, if people hadn't heard of Burning Sea yet. ^_^

I've been on a bit of a podcast kick lately. They're fun because, unlike my music collection, it's something new every time I turn it on. I only listen to a few, mostly based on the talk radio that I like (NPR has a lot of support for it). But there's also the official LOST podcast, and of course tons and tons of amateur ones, on all kinds of topics. There's movies, TV, science, really anything. As far as starting one yourself, I'd definitely add you to my reader if you offered one.

One suggestion: maybe find a friend to record with? Most of the ones I listen to involve some sort of cohost banter, although I'm sure lots of people fly solo too.

Oh, and I use Juice (http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/) which is free and very easy to setup and use.

Honestly, the "how you can help" link is in the header, and there aren't even any pictures (except one of a healthy dog "of a similar breed and color") visible when you first get there. I assume you have to scroll down to see any of the awful parts, but I wasn't going to try. It really wasn't so bad, but there's no reason for you to *assume* that it won't be bad.

Heh--as far as I'm concerned, "Cleolinda Jones" is my fun persona character. I'm actually not very shy in that regard, so much as I just don't know what your average podcast sounds like. Looks like I have some homework to do. : )

I'll definitely look into Juice. I was going to listen to a handful of podcasts as homework, to get a feel for what you get in a podcast as a medium. I was thinking about the Leaky Cauldron podcast, the Lost one is a good idea, and maybe something else--some solo podcasts if possible. Banter's an interesting point, though--my problem is more that I can control how often I do one and how casually or spur-of-the-moment I do them if I don't have to schedule recordings with someone else. Really, I'm almost thinking of something on the level of the LJ phone posts--not necessarily using that technology, but just an audio post of some kind. Which is why I'm having to look into what the actual medium involves.

I was the someone who mentioned the podcasty thing.

I do beleive that LJ has a phone post option.

You could do a short try out on that to see how things work.
