Wednesday evening, a little cranky

Not the best day; my smacking hand is starting to itch a little.

All right, a gallery of Tudors pics I gaffled (with permission) from the marketing folks who contacted me. (Full disclosure: All they asked me to do was post about it and they'd send me "a Showtime prize pack," whatever that is. I posted about the show months before I heard from them, mostly because 2007 is apparently going to be the year of Tudormania [The Tudors! The Other Boleyn Girl! The Elizabeth sequel!] and that is peachy keen by me; this is now my third post since I've talked to them. Which is simply to say, as with The Illusionist: I'm posting out of my own interest.) In particular:

1. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Henry VIII. I know, I know), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Katherine) and Sam Neill (Wolsey).
2. Jeremy Northam (Jeremy Northam! I forgot you were in this! Hi, Jeremy Northam!) (Thomas More).
3. JRM and--I'm not sure who. Gabrielle Anwar (Princess Margaret)? Perdita Weeks (Mary Boleyn)? Your guess is as good as, if not better than, mine. And it is Gabrielle Anwar. I told y'all your guess would be better.
4. Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn).

If you watched the behind-the-scenes/interviewy thing I posted last week, you might have noticed that the premise of the show seems to be that Henry VIII was "the original rock star." So accuracy may not be the top priority here. I almost hope they go full-out with modern music and be done with it--go hard or go home, that kind of thing.

Also, Henry Cavill and James Frain are in there somewhere, according to the IMDB.

Oscar gossip slows to a trickle:

Andre Leon Talley bullied Jennifer Hudson into wearing the Lamé Death Bolero: "Hudson told TODAY's Matt Lauer that her outfit was her only Oscar regret. The New York Post claims that Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley 'insisted' she wear it and 'went ballistic' when she tried to substitute something else. Talley was also doing ABC's pre-show fashion coverage -- are we shocked that he loved Hudson's ensemble?"

Babel writing-directing duo feud. "The chasm grows even wider between the filmmaking duo who gained worldwide success with movies about the connections among disparate locations and characters — and people are taking sides. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu and screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga have accused each other of trying to steal the spotlight amid the success of their latest film, Babel. Now Iñárritu and other Babel collaborators, including actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Adriana Barraza and composer Gustavo Santaolalla, have signed a letter criticizing Arriaga for 'claiming media attention.' 'It's a shame that in your unjustified obsession to claim sole responsibility for the film, you seem not to recognize that movies are an art of deep collaboration,' said the letter, published in the latest edition of Mexico's Chilanga magazine, released Monday."

When it comes to the antioxidants I know first hand in my body that they are a repair nutrient. I heal faster and smoother when I have a lot in my diet. Will they make me live longer, probably not but it might make some of my years less unpleasant messy. Now if only I can repair faster than I damage. Tragicly the best natural food sources are expensive so really health & longevity is more tied to money than anything else.

[identity profile] lotusbiosm.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not only are the healthiest foods expensive, but preventive care is also expensive. People who live in poverty can't afford the good foods that would keep them healthy, nor can they afford to go to the doctor to get routine check-ups and screenings that might lead to improved quality of life.
And I agree- I get better a lot faster with plenty of Vitamin C in my diet.

But is that JRM in the picture with Northam? It sort of doesn't look like him.

I went back and changed that--I'd written the caption based on the thumbnail, and then stopped later and went, "Hey, that kind of doesn't look like..."

And yeah--there's a couple of new previews I'm about to post that suggest the show is really about the soapy goodness.

Naomi Watts is indeed pregnant (http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=2910128&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312). Her boyfriend confirmed it apparently. So, that WAS a baby bump you could see under her yellow dress - for once, the speculation was right!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

That Anne Boleyn pic looks fabulous.

Re: Oscar clips removed from youtube: "Robertson told the trade publication that the organization had asked YouTube to remove the clips "to help manage the value of our telecast and our brand."

Sheesh, it's not like they sell DVDs of the broadcast later or anything. Seriously, I'd make a legitimate claim for fair use if the clips are accompanied by commentary on that - it's NEWS.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. They're really just shooting themselves in the foot--as someone else pointed out, younger viewers might actually be enticed to watch next year if they'd left the Will Ferrell clip up.

(The pics--I was a little disappointed that that's the highest (and only) res they had them in, but I'm hoping they'll keep updating the content. They've already added two new previews that I'm going to link, so maybe we'll get some more costumey pics as well.)

Well, there are lobby cards, and the programs. Additionally, they may well have geared up some merch with the image from the posters for the show, knowing that it would all sell out quickly.

I know vocab around the world is varied and a wondrous thing, but this is something I'm still not sure on:

"Does he mean a chicken sandwich, or an actual burger made of chicken? Because this I haven't seen."

Reading that sentance left me saying, 'What?'

Same.
I know that in Australia, we have something called a McChicken Burger, but it's called a McChicken Sandwich in the UK...
Is there a distinction between a chicken sandwich and a chicken burger?

Hey, ALT is a big kahuna. I can understand why she felt intimidated.

It's a shame that in your unjustified obsession to claim sole responsibility for the film, you seem not to recognize that movies are an art of deep collaboration,

The thing is, Arriaga was protesting the fact that Iñárritu acted as if Babel was his brainchild. I read an article awhile back that actually gave Arriaga more credit for their mutual success, citing his "strong" screenplay for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

None of that D'Onofrio piece surprises me except finding out Kate Erbe divorced Terry Kinney.

The source adds that “Grey’s” star Ellen Pompeo “seemed particularly peeved because she felt that, as the star, she should have been consulted.”

Poor Ellen Pompeo, thinking she's the main draw of GA. Honey, you may be the title character, but that don't mean jack.

The library porn issue is ridiculous-- I suspected it was an Onion article at first. Parents need to learn to take responsibility for their own damn kids. If you're 11 year-old son is looking at porn at the library it isn't the fault of the librarians for having computers, it's your fault for leaving your kid unattended. Honestly, it isn't as if the librarians were handing porn to the kids (as the CC and the morally superior protestors would have us believe).

Since clearly the only use of the internet is for porn, I wonder how these concerned citizens justify having a computer and internet in their house that their innocent child can use. Or are libraries the only place where one can access immoral material?

[identity profile] starlady42.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 03:50 am (UTC)(link)

Goodbye Goren makes me sad, but I'm more into Trial By Jury and on occasion Special Victims Unit, anyhow.

Pompeo? Needs to stop. It's an ensemble drama, for crissakes. I've taken to watching some of the re-runs on the French channel because she's less annoying when dubbed by someone who isn't constantly speaking through their nose and, ironically, that someone is a French woman. Walsh signed on as an eight or nine episode guest star and got a long-running place on the show because the character earned it and she played it well. Good for her, say I. She deserves the chance. Addison's character is the only one I can see with a reason to leave, anyhow, and no major connections to break with the other characters.

And maybe they just don't want Radcakes signing anyone's boobs. At least not on company time.
