I am hearing now that Prince was seen walking past the camera at one point. No wonder Justin Timberlake looked so confused.

Geena Davis in deep sky blue and James Woods in deep, deep crags. Best TV Series, Comedy. Clip from The Office: "Show me a white man you trust and I will show you a black man I trust--even more!" Wow, I am deeply impressed that Weeds got nominated--good Lord, Ugly Betty wins and the audience goes nuts. The entire cast is onstage shrieking. I actually remember waiting for entrees at Sabor Latino and idly watching Betty la Fea years ago, so it's wild to see an American version this popular now. The poor show creator is trying to thank people and Vanessa Williams is back there screaming and hugging people. He manages to end with "Te quiero, Mami!"

Oh God, Jamie Foxx. STOP TALKING, JAMIE FOXX. He's here to present a clip from Dreamgirls. "It tells a story the way a story SHOULD BE TOLD: THROUGH MUSIC! And in ONLY 800 THEATERS! YOU DO THE MATH!" Oh, whatever, you're not even any good in it. Go sit back down with Beyoncé and move out the way for Jennifer Hudson, plz.

Djimon Hounsou and Sharon Stone, who seems to be clenching her face very tightly for fear it might fall off. Best Foreign Language Film. I still can't believe Mel Gibson and Clint Eastwood films are nominated in this category. I mean, it's kind of anal to expect a category like this to always serve as a means for actual foreign films to get some air time, but... two? Two American films in one year alone? Winner: Letters from Iwo Jima. Fucking hell. Coming to the stage: Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood. It's obvious on which side the bread is buttered here, let's put it that way. Eastwood "pays his respects to the great Ken Watanabe." I am slightly appeased.

Next up: Philip Seymour Hoffman and a VERY SPECIAL GUEST.

I shrieked when Ugly Betty won. That show is just so much soapy, cheesy fun -- my new mission is trying to get my dad the Desperate Housewives addict to watch.

I flipped a SHIT when Letters from Iwo Jima won - I mean, I am angry. And my mom was like, But it's a foreign language film! But it's a foreign language film!

-_-

Clint Eastwood and Steven Speilburg (I feel like I spelled that wrong...) should not, ever, be accepting that award. *peeved*

Felicity Huffman did *not* look convinced by the 'Prince was stuck in traffic' thing. I trust in Felicity.

Prince seems pissed they called him out and made him bow for Happy Feet. My roommate and I are a bit scared of him now.

Well...about the foreign film category -- while I don't agree with the film that won, this year the Oscars changed their say on what could be submitted and so did the Globes. Previously, the film had to be in one of the official languages of a country - which was really unfair, as there have been some wonderful films in a foreign language that was done in a nation where the language used was not an official language. So they changed it. I personally agree with the changing of the rule.

I like the rule change in theory--and you can't even put some clause into it like, "Best foreign language film NOT FROM THE UNITED STATES," because what if the next Y Tu Mama Tambien/Amores Perros comes from a Spanish-speaking American citizen? There's no objective way to exclude people like Gibson and Eastwood from getting films into that category, and as annoyed as I am, I have to admit that a WWII film in Japanese and a movie in ancient Mayan are (again, in theory) pretty cool uses of the foreign-language genre. It's just that the two men annoy me so very much, and their movies are taking up slots that lesser-known movies, movies that could use the visibility, now can't have. It's just the way the really annoying singing cookie crumbles, I guess.

Huh.

First person I've met that's annoyed by Clint Eastwood. Odd.

I've had a chance to watch Ugly Betty in Spanish, Hebrew, English and probably Russian. Feeling kinda proud of myself that my combined viewing time of the whole thing doesn't amount to 5 minutes.

What can I say, I'm an original. Actually, Clint Eastwood, Actor, doesn't annoy me. Clint Eastwood, Director, does.

I have a calculus final tomorrow that I should be studying for, but I'm reading this instead. It doesn't matter- pop culture is an integral part of my life, math isn't.

Re: Ugly Betty - I must be the only person on earth who has never seen it, and doesnt care.

As for Foreign Language Film - I'm actually resonably convinced that Letters is a pretty great movie, even withut having seen it, but the fact that the award did not go to Pan's Labyrinth, which I just saw today and am still absolutely STUNNED over, is just. offensive.

Hee. Why do you hate Jamie Foxx so much? Although I do agree that he needs to shut up re: how a story should be told. Whatevs.

Mostly because he won't shut up in general. The hate developed last year (the year before? It's a blur) when he did the same obnoxious, attention-whore call-and-response acceptance speech at every single awards show. You know? And here's Eddie Murphy, who's practically been famous longer than this guy's been alive, finally getting recognition for actual acting, and he's restrained and classy. And Foxx swaggers in this year and all he's doing is presenting.

THANK GOD someone else is annoyed by Jamie Foxx. I was rooting for him to win the Oscar 'cause he deserved it, but now I just want to take it back, if he's going to act like this. He is so so so annoying and narcissistic and his behavior since he's gotten the Oscar is just...wow. I just want to grab him and say "Look at Meryl Streep. She has TWO Oscars and THIRTEEN nominations and do you SEE her acting like a fool?! NO! She is classy!"

Jamie needs some lessons on humility. My fist is the prefect thing to teach him, 'cause damn if he isn't annoying as all get out.
