Just a quick check-in to say that Sister Girl's birthday went astonishingly well, no exorbitant sums were spent, no one was arrested, etc. But I'm going out to see The Fountain tonight and trying to get a few things done before then, so it may be a bit before a decent-length entry shows up. I'm just saying, I'm not dead or anything.

YAY for the birthday gods smiling upon Sister Girl's birthday!

Whoa! Congrats to all involved -- and enjoy some time not tethered to the Internets.

Ha! I used the same picture to make almost the same icon.

BTW The Fountain is great. It's grown on me and I can't seem to stop writing about it.

BTW, the flying beagle in one of your icons is really a flying Basset Hound. ;)

Ah! You exploit my weak dog-fu! *sob*

Well, it's been a couple of years since I iconned that one, so I think I'll let it sit for now. Though I do need to go through the icon bin with a weed-whacker and make room for fresh blood (sorry, abortive metaphor there).

And yes, that bunny picture is teh_kewl. He looks so happy with his stubby-paws raised aloft in triumph!

I liked The Fountain, although I thought the jump-cuts between timelines was jarring even for an Aronovsky[sp] film.

Beautiful and sad, though. And Hugh Jackman is a God.

I'm glad to hear everything went well on the Sister's Birthday front. Also, I'll be waiting eagerly for your (non-spoilering? please?) comments on The Fountain, seeing as you often appear to like/hate things in movies that I also would/do. (In other words, I really hope you're going to like it, for that would mean there'd be good chances that I'll like it too... I'm selfish like that, yeah. Sorry). But, seriously, I've been hearing contrasting opinions over this movie, I'm nearly bracing myself for the fall/impact already. I so hope it doesn't suck, because the trailer imagery is brilliant. I'll stop babbling now. Ok.

It doesn't suck! Go see it while it's still in theaters! (Trust my opinion, for I have good taste! Do not question the great and powerful wizard! and so on...)

I'd say see my comments on the movie *shameless self promotion* but they're pretty spoilery, except for my most recent entry. (however, all spoilers are behind cuts)

Oh! I read your most recent entry and loved what you had to say -- it got me riled up in hopes again. :)

I won't have to hurry for seeing The Fountain in theatres, however, since I don't think it's opened yet on this side of the ocean (or, shall I say, Mediterraneum). I might actually wait for the DVD release, see it as many times and as thoroughly as I'd like.

Oh, wow, thanks! :D

Ah, I see. Didn't look at where you were located. Well, if you get the chance to see it on a big screen, you should take it, because it's too pretty to only see on a TV. ;)

Glad the birthday went well.

I'd been wondering whether you'd seen The Fountain! Because you were so excited about it, and then I didn't see a post about it. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

As at 10 you have your 'double digits' birthday, 16 is the 'driving' birthday, 18 is your 'voting' birthday, and 21 is your 'adulthood' birthday, maybe it was also the 'realizing how incredibly unreasonable your expectations were' birthday.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that anyone could actually like The Fountain. And I'm usually a fan of crazy movies like that.

What didn't you like about it?

I felt like it was a cheap story. It was a rip off of the whole novel vs. reality idea, the plot points were really silly and wasted all the possibilities of being intense and hard-hitting.

It was like someone tried to cross The Notebook and Princess Bride and got something like... a hairy girlfriend from the swamp.

Only good part was... something that's totally a spoiler. Just don't drink the tree sap is all I'm saying.

(If you haven't seen it yet, you'll understand these comments better after...)

That about covers my angle.

I love that it has exactly a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I haven't seen it myself, but that the reviews are so mixed amuses me.

I just realized I totally forgot to wish you a happy birthday, and that's not good, so I'm going to extend the same courtesy to your sister and not say a word about it.
Only...
Aww screw it. Happy days to you both! Glad to hear things went well. General good wishes and glowy feelings to all.

I thought you might enjoy this: Lost Rhapsody 2: electric Bogaloo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UepDbO2ewdY). It's a Lost season 2 fan video, set to "The Alternative Polka" by Weird Al, rotoscoped to hell and back, but very amusing nonetheless. If nothing else, watch it for the polar bear rave.
