Fnarr. Am home, and trying to gum/slurp various inoffensive foods, if for no other reason than that the pain meds'll cause nausea if I don't. Also because I'm starving. So there's also that. And the pain meds are not working fast/hard enough, as far as I'm concerned. Three WT came out like angels; the lower left had to be cut out a bit, so I probably will puff up like a chipmunk, but not until about Wednesday, Dr. Buck says.

Apparently, my first words in the recovery room when I woke up were, "What the shit is this?"

P.S. I have a surprise over at [livejournal.com profile] dailydigest for Lemony Snicket fans. Just put it this way: a webmistress's work is never done. :)

Try ice for the pain - when I had my wisdom teeth done, ice became my best friend for a couple of days.

Great idea--I have a glass of juice with crushed ice I've been working on for about half an hour now. It does help. :)

That doesn't sound too fun, I hope you feel better!

I have a question... you said that your wisdom teeth were fully grown in... why did you need to get them removed? Were they bothering you, or did the dentist say it was necessary?

Well, two things. The immediate reason was cavities--which, as the surgeon my dentist referred me to told me today, is actually very commonplace if you keep your wisdom teeth into your 20s (or beyond). If the gum covers part of your tooth, you just can't clean it. Mine came in straight up--sideways, and you'd have to get them out in your teens. So apparently it was perfectly normal and reasonable to wait this long, and it was just time for 'em to go.

The second thing was more ironic--my gums would get inflamed for a day or two here and there, and then it would pass. No big. But as soon as I set the appointment for today's surgery--and I set it about five months ago--I started to have these awful pressure headaches centered on my jaw. Apparently the wisdom teeth were so angry about getting taken out that they decided to get their money's worth first. ;)

Thanks for the info. I ask because my orthodontist told me years ago that I would probably have to have mine removed, but he said I might have enough room for them. They're grown in, they don't bother me, so I'm not really too motivated to follow up on it because of my dental phobia. I figure I have enough room for them since they didn't grow out of the side of my mouth or something, right? But it sounds like maybe I should have it checked out because of the cavity issue...

You might just get away with it--my father has his as we speak. I was supposed to have mine out at 15 and managed to hang onto them until now, at 25. Crowding got to be a problem right there at the end, as I mentioned, and I didn't expect that after ten years of them behaving. You really probably should talk to your dentist/orthodontist guy about cavities, and see about that--how to clean better, be on the lookout for cavities, etc.

Seriously, I am thinking of writing up an extremely long and boring entry I'll tell everyone else to skip, because I know several people who haven't had their WT out and wanted to know about it. Sort of as a definitive chronicle of the experience. I know I would have liked to have read something like that, rather than vaguely scary things people told me. Like, I was completely unprepared for them to put me on an IV. So I might write that. :)
