1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag three people.

Well, I'll do two books (and six people) since I was tagged twice:

"Father ought to see these trees," she murmured; "they are almost as lovely as his own rainbows."

Then she gave a start of terror, for beneath the trees came stalking two great beasts, either one big enough to crush the little Daughter of the Rainbow with one blow of his paws, or eat her up with one snap of his enormous jaws. One was a tawny lion, as tall as a horse, nearly; the other a striped tiger almost the same size.
From The Road to Oz, L. Frank Baum.

But Emma had flounced into the bathroom and was crossly brushing her teeth and didn't hear Hattie's cry of wonder.

Down on the terrace, instead of a hundred spiders, there were a hundred handsome young men, all bowing and smiling. One of them had a crown on his head and a knapsack on his back; the rest carried plastic bags of diamonds.
From "The Spider in the Bath," The Last Slice of Rainbow, Joan Aiken.

All I have are cool and intellectual books. PJ O'Rourke counts as both.

That second one sounds interesting.

Ah, it's a kid's book. Wish I'd had it as a kid (I think I do, anyway).

Oh, it's lovely--a very short book of very odd children's stories. "The Queen with Screaming Hair" has always been one of my favorites.

Descartes' Discourse on Method and Meditations on First Philosophy, combined in one book, don't meet the 123-page requirement. Sadly.

And this time it was not the fevered conjecture of my imagination that made me wakeful, but memory, and the piercing desire that accompanied it. When I closed my eyes, I saw Roshana and Katherine kissing. I sweated and tossed, tangled in my sheets, and cursed myself for an idiot.

A dozen completely useless Moose Points® if you can guess which book. <G>

He is in a play on Broadway called "Faith Healer" also with Cherry Jones and Ian McDiarmid (best known as the Emperor Palpatine from "Star Wars". The play is actually four monologues that were in just one word: fantastic. It totally blew me away. The writing was excellent and the acting was Ralph. In truth, I felt that the material was challenging and the actors held back nothing.
I waited for him at the stage door and got to chat for about two seconds. He was unbelievable. He really can't be taller than 5'9" and his eyes are more intense and more electric than I would have ever guessed. He truly was a gentleman...everything I could have ever imagined/hoped for and more.

If you know any one in New York City, tell them to go see "Faith Healer"...he's in it and totally amazing. I waited for him at the stage door, and he was every ounce a gentleman. I still can't believe my good fortune. I couldn't sleep last night for anything in the world.

I closed my eyes, reached up to the shelf above my desk, and grabbed the first book I found. Movies In Fifteen Minutes: Hollywood Blockbusters for people who can't be bothered

Should I still post the extracts? :P
