So, I have figured out the problem with Firefox: it hates Yahoo Mail. I don't know why; I don't know if it's an extension that's being all cooperative. All I know is, the only time Firefox crashes, it's when I have Yahoo Mail open. Yes, even when I only have one tab open, and that one tab is Yahoo Mail. So I'm going to be using IE for email until I figure out what's wrong with it, which is not all that bad, really.

Extensions I am enjoying the hell out of:

Adblock
Flashblock
NoScript
ScrapBook
VideoDownloader
DownloadThemAll (I use Download Accelerator Plus in IE, but it apparently doesn't work in Firefox)
FavLoc (SERIOUSLY. I LOVE THIS)
Google Images Re-Linker
Nuke Anything Enhanced
Tab Mix Plus
PDF Download

And yes, I am working on installment three of the writer's block thing. It's just coming out extremely rambly and unfocused, and I'm having to step back and reassess what I want to say.

(If you play Kingdom of Loathing, go to the "Notes" part of your Quest Log and type in "Laura Palmer." Then go check the Trophy Hut. Hee hee.)

New trailer for The Black Dahlia. And here's the stills. WARNING: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC autopsy image, second pic in the first row. The Black Dahlia, in case you don't know, was sawed in half by her killer. I'm just saying: Nuke Anything might come in handy here.

P.S. I hear Johnny Depp's going to be on Letterman tonight. I suspect my mother will stay up past her bedtime for this. Also, she's been bonding with a young (gay) guy at her new job over The Fountain (she called me during her lunch hour because she couldn't remember who was in it) and V for Vendetta ("Oh, man, that was so awesome!" "I KNOW!").

ETA: Short spoilery description of Pirates 3 footage at Comic Con. Aww, monkey.

I think my favorite Firefox extensions (that I have) are IE View (view any page in IE) and Popup ALT Attribute (Firefox doesn't show "alt" tags like IE does, but that extension will make it :D).

I lurve Firefox, and it's weird that you can't view Yahoo mail, because I can see it just fine when I go. Although that's not often, since I use Gmail.

I use Firefox with Yahoo mail all the time with no problem. I have an issue with some peoples signatures on forums, though. Then it freezes up. Certain blocked popups will freeze it as well.

Huh. I have Firefox and Yahoo! Mail doesn't crash it.

What's FavLoc?

"Favorite Location"--I'm such an image-hoarding magpie that it makes life so much simpler for me. You set up your favorite folders to save to, and then you can choose where to save to when you right click.

Another endorsement for Thunderbird for your mail. Firefox's sibbling. Also comes with add ons.

How odd, both my work's IT guy, and people I actually understand have recommended Firefox for better Yahoo experience, and it's totally worked out that way.
Yet, for most of my other stuff, LJ included, FireFox has sucked, and I prefer IE.
I just keep 'em both on the desktop and go back and forth.

Yay on the unblockage!

There's a novel about the Black Dahlia titled "Severed." It also has extremely graphic photos of Elizabeth Short--pictures taken of her body in the vacant Crenshaw lot, and the autopsy photographs.

Well . . . I have a reputation among friends and family for looking at horrors, only to whimper, "Why the fuck did I do that?!" I did it with harlequin babies and Nick Berg's videotaped murder. When it came to "Severed"'s autopsy photos, I looked at them too. I wish I hadn't. Whoever murdered her wasn't even an excuse for a human being--just protoplasmic slime with advanced physical mobility.

On the other hand, I will probably ::wince:: go see the movie.

I can't wait for The Black Dahlia. The book started me on my longtime fangirling of James Ellroy, and it's been too long since Brian De Palma did anything of consequence.

Wow. I have always been sickly fascinated by the Black Dahlia case. But that trailer, with the black-and-white individual parts? Way to even further objectify the woman at the center of the story, De Palma. Ew.

Weird about Firefox. I started using Firefox because IE was freezing with Yahoo Mail. I don't think I've been having problems with it lately. I'm also one of the weird ones that uses both IE and Firefox still. ^_^

You're not alone
Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&content=yahoo) shows a number of people reporting the same thing.

I think they require a bit more information, as most of the newest reported bugs contain the following advice:

Could you install with talkback and get a talkback ID for the crash?
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback

Maybe try that, report a bug with talkback info and we can get it fixed :)

He's so incredibly soft-spoken and deadpan, is the funny thing. All he has to do is answer a yes-or-no question and the audience is falling out.

I'm a rerun, but I'd look to your extensions as a cause for the problem. I've been using yahoo mail long before I started using Firefox, and have never had a problem. Perhaps one of thos ad blocker things is conflicting (The free geocities sites used to work where if you didn't let the ads load all the way before closing, it would stop loading the entire page. So wouldn't put it pass them doing something like that elsewhere). Then again Yahoo is one of the IE groupies and it's taken them a long time to make the email custimizations (fonts, font color, all that stuff) so it would work on the other browsers.

If you want to avoid the IE totally, you can always try Avant or Opera. Those are my back ups

The Yahoo/Firefox incompatability problem is a known issue, and is apparently related to
Yahoo Messenger, but they don't seem to be addressing it. The fix is shown on the Firefox Crashes page in the MozillaZine forums (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes#Yahoo.21_Application_State). Since I used the fix, I haven't had any problems with Firefox *or* Yahoo Mail. Please do tell your Flist about it, because it seems a lot of folks are having similar problems.

IE Tab

and others when I remember what I used to have before I reformatted my hard drive.
