Okay, so my mom loved Pirates. Loved. It. My aunt had seen it earlier in the week and had said that "it wasn't as good as the first one," and my mom's like, "WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY SISTER." No question mark there, either. Just "WHAT." I don't think Mom's argument now is that it was as good or better so much as that it was TWO HOURS OF CAPTAIN JACK ZOMG. As I said, my mother is a total fangirl now. I have no idea what she thought of the "you want to taste it" scene, because I was afraid to ask. We have decided, however, that Jack should totally show up at Will and Elizabeth's wedding with Scarlett on one arm and Giselle on the other (leaving the kraken to bawl in its grog. "Didn't that mean anything to you?! You whore." Maybe the kraken can hook up with Norrington. Omgtheirloveissojiltedanddrinky), thus solving everyone's shippy problems by the end of the third movie. Also, she wants me to burn the soundtrack for her.

As for me, I still get giddy when the Kraken Organ of DOOM kicks in right about here. Seriously. I do the Kraken Dance ("EEEEEEEEE!") and everything.

(I'm pretty sure it's the gold ring with the purple stone. We have now ensured, by spending so much time and energy on the question, that it will mean absolutely nothing in the third movie.)

P.S. Stolen from Snarkfest, because it is just that awesome: Fo'c'sle Jack, the Pirate Pom.

Fo'c'sle Jack's site is best inspected with "I'm a Pirate" from the first POTC soundtrack playing in the background. (I know I posted this on SF, but this is for the benefit of your non-SF readers, Cleo.)

pssst Cleo - speaking of awesome PotC things - [livejournal.com profile] jooniper30 actually made an ANIMATED mood theme (http://jooniper30.livejournal.com/7690.html), which may be one of the most awesomest things ever to awesome.

*sigh* I haven't had a chance to see it again. I just keep looking at the glurge of icons thats come out of the movie longingly.

There's a rumor going around (I will try to find my source but I read when I was in full-throttle "must find out everything I can about Pirates on every website and message board ever created" mode) that the ring will enable Jack to speak to seaturtles. And strap them to his feet.

You know what? They're pretty much required to make that actually happen now, after the way it's been such a running joke for two whole movies.

And uh, if you happen to read this one first, don't read the last comment I made!

Since I figure that you paid far more attention to detail than I, I have a question for the masses.

At any point, do we see Jack or the snark twins in the moonlight? I just re-watched the first one tonight, and am wondering some things, and the answer to that question will help resolve some stuff.

Thanks.

I think we do--Jack, at least. They're definitely not undead.

No, Norrington can not hook up with the Kraken, because Norrington is going to hook up with me.

Also I'm pretty sure Poolthulu probably likes the Kraken theme, so it works out for everybody.

I finally saw this last night and I wasn't crazy about it, but I wasn't crazy about the first one the first time I saw it, either. I will say that the kind of spready plot the last one had is even worse in this one--no real tautness, just a lot of stuff happening really big and loud. And is it just me, or are there no really quotable lines from this one? I felt the lack rather sorely, because the first one had so many.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Part of the problem is that they rely so much on throwbacks to the first one, so it's hard to quote this one. Although that hasn't really stopped me--I love to go around saying things like "My boogie snickle snickle, toute suite, come on!" or "Stop! STOP! This is barbaric! This is MADNESS!" or "SUMMON--THE KRAKEN!" The first one was so quoted to death that I'm almost kind of glad it can't be done with this one on a mainstream level.

And I will admit, it doesn't have the elegant structure of the first one, which was basically a reinvention of the genre itself. But I didn't think of this one as having a spready plot--if anything, I thought it was kind of one-track-minded. Like, it put you on a roller coaster from the first minute and there was just no getting off. This may be because the first one was about 1) Will wanting to get Elizabeth back, 2) Jack wanting to get his ship back, and 3) Barbossa wanting to get the coin back--goals which might or might not be compatible at a given moment--whereas this one is basically four different people (five, I suppose, if you count Beckett) all going after a single item, the chest. There was no time for a detour like the rum island in the last one.

I love the Kraken Organ of DOOM! I'm going to download the sheet music to it and switch my Clavinova over to "pipe organ" so I can kick some serious Kraken ass! My sister-in-law and I had to listen to it repeatedly on our way to see the movie for the second time. *mad love*

Yeah. Apparently the guy has been living under a rock for three years. I'm pretty sure House of Mouse is gonna fix his wagon pretty quickly. Shit, the "Wyrd Sisters"/Goblet of Fire suit some folk band lodged against Warner Brothers? Not only did they lose the case, but now they have to pay $145,000 of WB's legal fees. This guy better hope he *has* money by the time Disney is done with him.

Are the icons such as yours up for grabs yet? I kind of really want one.
And did anyone else kind of fall out of their chair in glee when Elizabeth kissed jack? Okay, I don't care what they say, that was hot and I lurrrrved it. To me, the most feminine one in the movie was Will. Sorry, EFFEMINATE LIKE WOH.

I actually made the kraken icon for someone, but... I suppose you can take it. : )

I totally agree with the reason for a Kraken Organ Music of Doom and Exposition Happy Dance at that one part (it starting with the boat being cracked in two...so sweet). I noticed two things though: Apparently the first thing Jack steals and hand tricks into his pocket is a vial of some sort (a friend sitting next to me in the movie confirmed it), and is it just me, or is Tia actually wearing the heart locket at the end when she's consoling Gibbs, Lizzie, Will, Pintell, Rigetti, the midget (does he have a name?), and Cotton over Jack's "death". I couldn't really tell, but it definitely looks like she is.

One last thing that I noticed in the soundtrack: If you listen to "Tia Dalma" from about two minutes (or two and a half, I can't remember where) on, you can hear a familiar music box sound, and soft undertones of Davey Jones' theme. I just picked up on it yesterday, and Hans is a genius.

My mom saw Pirates 1 and is now a Fangirl. I am deeply disturbed. Her favorite scenes were a very wet Orlando and Depp in a rowboat. An upside down one, that was underwater.

Hee hee! I can totally sympathise with your mum - I've never thought of myself as much of a fangirl, but I would have been quite happy if the whole two hours had simply consisted of Captain Jack running. I was so amused and delighted by the running, I actually lost interest in battering my friend's leg to indicate to him which costumes I'd made.

Maybe the third film will actually consist of nothing but running? Oh, and some random chinese pirates. Because otherwise, that's a hell of a lot of money wasted on expensive fabric!
