As [livejournal.com profile] derangeddarling points out, there's a replica tie-in ring on Amazon*--but it's the silver ring (left side of the picture; bottom of picture). But that's the thing--it's a ring you see prominently before they get to Tia Dalma's. Which only makes it weirder that Tia is specifically shown with that ring on the official site. (They've added a token-collecting game--yes, a second one--since the last time I mentioned it; the ring was not there in the original version of the site.) To complicate the question of whether Jack took her necklace or not--people seem to be saying that he leaves it on the table and takes only the ring--Jack is shown wearing the necklace on the site. But you can also see a smaller version of the same green and silver ring (Tia's is so large because you're supposed to click on it) on the correct hand. BE MORE CONSISTENT WITH YOUR CLUES, PEOPLE!

* Wear Johnny Depp's ring! One of Johnny Depp's own rings, worn to the set one day, looked so perfect for the character of Jack Sparrow that it was quickly adopted as part of the flamboyant pirates costume.

"Hey, man, can we make replicas of your ring?"

"Uh... that's kind of creepy, actually."

"Excellent, we'll get right on it!"

I think the only solution is to go see the movie three or four more times. *grin*

I actually just saw it again last night and I was paying attention to see if he took the necklace or just the ring and it was the latter. Sadly I didn't pay attention to the ring itself but I'm pretty sure it was the one with the purple stone you mentioned in your last post.

*drops this off* Ask A Ninja reviews "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBly9_mci90) For a good laugh. :]

I barely remember anything about this ring/necklace thing, I suppose I'll have to go & see the film again to try & pick up on it.

I love that bit about it being one of his own rings, heee.

In those shots both the ring and the locket look pretty pastede on yay. I'm wondering if marketing didn't talk to Gore and Ted and Terry before building the game.

I can point out that by this point (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/hrichards/Random/274fe65b.jpg) in the third movie he's still wearing the gold ring, for what that's worth.

Well, of course they do--you're supposed to click on them, and when you hold your cursor over them, they have sort of a glowy white outline. ; )

Whoa! I haven't seen anything from the third movie yet--that's awesome. Where'd you find that?

Right, but...is it possible marketing screwed up and used the wrong jewelry and/or put it on the wrong person?

See, I don't know--you'd think that in order to produce and manufacture a product, you'd have to go through some hoops, you know? I could see the *website designers* possibly messing up, or saying, "Oh, we like this ring better, the silver's easier to see," not realizing that it might (or might not) be a plot point in the next one.

Yes, but we're in a world where on Sony's main site for PS3, there was an Apple logo barely visible for a moment on the PS3 mockup because somebody somewhere screwed up.

Many chuckles emanated from the nerds that day.

He is still clearly wearing the green stoned one, too.

But, he *did* have that one before he went to Tia's. I'm just confused why they would be mass producing it if it wasn't important. I mean, the other big item is Davy Jones' key, not even Jack's compass....

Did anyone manage to see what it is he pockets *before* he snatches the ring? He definitely steals something else.

Just as an example of how it could happen, if I had a buck for every book jacket that didn't match what was in the book, I'd be pretty rich. Starting with your book, actually. ("Hollywood blockbusters for people who can't be bothered." Wha?)

See, I was pretty sure he grabbed the gold ring with the reddish/purple stone ... and now I'm all confused.

I'm guessing Johnny bring a lot of his own element to a movie. If you've seen Secret Window, watch the featurettes and he brought some of his own ideas to that too.

Other people seemed to confirm that it was the gold ring, so... Well, I'm sure people will see the movie again within the next couple of days and report back (I probably won't until this weekend).

Sorta-OT here, but... Does anyone have any tips for rendering Tia Dalma's accent phonetically?

A phonetical transcription of any of her lines would be too awesome for words, but I don't think I can get one of those just yet.

I was going through the site and that confused me to no end. I was like...I'm sorry, but Jack only took the ring. Yall are screwed up.

BUT when you click on the necklace after you have it in your "plunder" boxything, the description says, "Antique Necklace. Rumor has it that this once belonged to a Spanish heiress. It certainly speaks of a mysterious bond, a long-lost love, (or thievery, perhaps?)"

SpanishHeiresswtf? Tia Dalma? ...okay. sure. before she became the kinky voodoo tramp of the seven seas.

They did this "let's screw up people who have only seen the movie once, or not at all, by being completely inconsistent and pointlessly foreshadowing" thing for the first movie too. Methinks Disney can be an arse at times. Arrr(gh).
