You guys! I totally forgot to mention two of the most important things!



1) Thanks to tips from y'all, I kept my eyes open the first time we see Tia Dalma's shack. The monkey immediately runs to a pair of boots on a bed--presumably worn by someone lying down, but you can't see. We are shown the monkey pawing at the boots in some distress twice. They are totally trying to prepare you for Barbossa coming back. My only question is, why does Tia Dalma already have Barbossa's body? I mean, I assume we'll find out in the third movie, but I still can't come up with anything on my own.

2) I am totally convinced that Tia Dalma is the woman Davy Jones loved. Jack takes a heart-shaped pendant that Tia Dalma has left on a table; it looks exactly like the heart-shaped lock on the chest and the heart-shaped music box. And when Tia Dalma is telling the story, she is constantly gesturing to herself. Go back and watch that part again--she's totally saying, "And that woman was me."

Also, I love "The Kraken" on the soundtrack, but it is whoa-awesome in the actual movie.

I totally agree with the Tia Dalma is the woman Davy Jones loved. But I came to that conclusion because of the matching pendants. I could hardly understand what she was actually saying, so I could hardly pick up on subtext.

Yes, to both thoughts. I was the only one in my group that noticed the heart pendant, so I was starting to think I was mistaken. I also wonder if the ring Jack pocketed in that scene will be important later, since we kept seeing it on his hand until the movie ended. Why would they keep showing us if it wasn't important?

The people I went to the movie with seem to think the monkey taking the piece of gold at the end of the first movie has something to do with Barbossa being rescued, but I can't think how. If I come up with anything that makes sense, I'll share.

YES. I noticed the boots too, even on first viewing before I knew Barbossa would show up at the end. Second viewing, I was like "yep, those are Hector's boots, all right." Monkey clinched it. I don't know why Tia would have his body though.

I had the same feeling about Tia while she was telling Davy's story. And the locket/heart thing...pretty close to confirmation. I think our Tia is a lot older than she looks, too.

I noticed the boots. However, my attention was on the undead monkey, as I am the undead monkey's fangirl.

I love the entire soundtrack - 'Dinner Is Served' just makes me so happy. 'The Kraken' is, as my dad suggested, the Pirate version of the Jaws theme. This, too, makes me happy.

Agreed. I'm apparently very good at spotting Clues without even realizing that that's what they are, and it has served me well in Calling It. The pendant was pretty obvious.

I am, however, uncertain about that ring Jack swiped. It was so very, very prominent in the movie that I started to second-guess it, wondering if it was a red herring just to send us all down the wrong path of THE RING IS IMPORTANT. After that, I can't Call It at all.

I suspected as soon as I saw that boots, and saw the undead monkey run to it, that it was Barbosa. I noticed the necklace/music box connection as well, and also think Tia is the one who Davy Jones loved.

I didn't pick up on the ring though. Sure, I saw it featured prominently, but being Disney I thought they were just marketing it.

I TOLD my sister repeatedly 'its the same, its close to similiar ITS HER DAMMIT' but she htought I was seeing things 'cause it was 2am in the morning and i'm known to see things at that time without sleep.

and assuming Tia Dalma (who's name I thought was Theodola) is this freaky voodoo lady (let's face it, she IS freaky) it can't be so very hard for her to sense some part of the future an drealize Barboosa would be mightily important.

I didn't know this but the actress playing Tia Dalma was in a BUNCH of stuff I love. like the 90's 'tomorrow people' show. and she's so pretty.

"Tia" is actually Spanish for "aunt," which would be a title of respect for a well-known figure in the neighborhood. And I'm pretty sure she's a voodoo...er, because if you look closely in the publicity stills, she is totally wearing a dried chicken foot around her neck.

I noticed the boots, but for some reason they didn't stick in my mind. I didn't even remember that bit had happened until you made this post - but yeah, nice way to drop a subtle hint!

I didn't notice Tia's locket, but I definitely picked up on her body language and assumed from there. But did anyone else notice that when Jack & co. opened the chest and saw Davy Jones's heart for the first time, the music box was playing in the background? They also made a slow pan across the music box heart as Will stole the key from Davy Jones. Makes me wonder what part the mechanical heart plays in all of this.

I saw those things. I know somewhere in the back of my head I was putting things together. I know I saw the boots, and I know I saw the locket and was like, "OOH, Davey's music box is just like Tia Dalma's..."

But I blame a lack of sleep and an implosion of squee in my brain for not putting that second part together.

Agreed, I could have sat for another two and a half hours to be honest I was in such squee. Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the locket, well my friends and I did. I didn't notice the boots, never picked up on that. Though Tia did gesture to herself a lot during that scene didn't she?

My suspicion as to why Tia has Barbossa's body is because she's the voodoo lady. She's the one who knows how to bring people back from the dead, so if anyone ever wanted Barbossa to get back from the dead, they'd be bringing him* to her for that.
