You know it's hard out here for a pimp
When he's tryin' to get his linkspam for the post...

Pimpify! (Related: Tom Wolfe pimps his ride.)

Honest-to-God Snakes on a Plane trailer!

New general-catalogue blends at BPAL!

Prose Before Hos.

Geoffrey Chaucer Hath a Blog--and a new installment of his advice column.

An Olsen twins advice column?

Why things have been sucking the past several weeks.

Alabama cow tests positive for mad cow disease. Aw, hell.

Cubicle inventor: They're a mistake. Well, it's a little late now, isn't it!

Isaac Hayes Quits 'South Park' because they made fun of Scientology. Of which he is a member. And then Tom Cruise blackmails Comedy Central.

Coed prostitutes self to pay for college... and refuses to stop. It's the last line that's the kicker.

(You know, it's not even so weird that I tagged this entry with "whores"; it's that I already had a "whores" tag.)

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, adapted for frat boys.

Eight Simple Rules For Dating My Own Teenage Daughter. AUGH, DONALD, WTF?

I'm way behind on this, but... heard about the Bill Napoli thing yet?

[livejournal.com profile] particle_person: "Okay, this is worth noting: Wal-Mart enlists bloggers in its P.R. campaign. They send around glorified press releases to bloggers, who in some cases pass the information on without noting where it came from. I suspect this is more of a problem for the conservative part of the blogsphere at the moment (because that half is more business-friendly), but it won't be long before it's a problem for all of us. Also, Wal-Mart is apparently not the only company to do this."

[livejournal.com profile] krazycat: "Rock band Foo fighters are supporting Alive & Well, an organisation that not only claims that there are no real link between HIV and AIDS, but also that HIV medication in fact causes AIDS, and people shouldn't be taking them. The so-called evidence of the group has been refuted time and time again, and the fact that the band are performing shows where the organisation gets to speak to young and easily influented people really upsets me. A couple more links about it in my lj."

[livejournal.com profile] anne_jumps: "Would you mind linking to this ("Planned Parenthood Denounces Harmful Changes in Regulation of Health Insurance; Senate Bill Would Eliminate Health Care Benefits for American Women, Including Coverage for Contraceptives")?" Full bill text here ("because it's apparently possible that PP is kind of overstating the possibilities with regard to interpretation").

[livejournal.com profile] kira002: "Hey Cleo, next time you feel the urge to pimp, would you post this for me? I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to get the information I need. I volunteered to beg for swag for LilBro's upcoming Rock Lottery (now expended to 3 nights!), but I'm not quite sure where to go for the begging. My Rolodex is more film-oriented than record label-oriented. Is there a place like IMDb Pro but for music? And, if I'm going to contact the labels "cold turkey", what's the best way to approach them? Rock Lottery proceeds go to charity while the swag will be used for door prizes. Last year, the first annual Rock Lottery, featured door prizes of... t-shirts and hats from LilBro's beer vendors. We'd like to get some good stuff this year."

In case you missed it in comments on earlier posts (and I'm sure there's far too many for you to absorb!), there's now an LJ RSS feed for the Chaucer blog - [livejournal.com profile] chaucerhathblog.

That prostitution story really unsettled me. I know a couple of people who managed to transfer to a decent Uni after performing superbly at a local community college, and hell, student loans are just a fact of life. They aren't the worst thing in the world. My husband and I both have them, and they are a drag and frustrating, but we got the education, now we're paying the bill. And we aren't risking rape or disease or violence to achieve that. >.>

You should hip folks to the current anti-MySpace movement. MySpace is being used by its owner (Rupert Murdoch) to erode internet freedoms and is openly censoring its users. Notice how now that every major crime story focuses on the criminals online usage/msg board postings? Not a coincidence. Just like those BSC kids that burned the churches, the government is making its case for censorship/wholesale spying on US citizens by implanting the thought that these crimes could be prevented by monitoring EVERYONE'S internet usage.

Go here for more info: http://www.infowars.com/articles/science/myspace_trojan_horse_of_internet_censorship.htm
That link contains links to the groups currently protesting Internet censorship on MySpace.

Heh. That frat boy "Love Song" was amusing. Thanks.

And damn, I didn't know Isaac Hayes was a Scientologist. Huh. Wonder what they'll do about Chef. That's sad.

This sounds a lot like the religious quacks in East Africa who were telling their folks that the WHO was inoculating their children to sterilize them, not to prevent polio. (total coincidence: an outbreak of flaccid myelitis in the same region....)

You know what's really interesting? I noticed that every time kids' journals/blogs are brought up in a negative light, they're always MySpaces. Like, I was thinking about that last week, even before you mentioned that. This would so explain why.

The Mercury in retrograde thing made me feel better (even if it creeped me out a little, because yes, things have been sucking, and they've been sucking in that exact way).

Well, it makes me feel better because that means there's an END to it. Although I have heard that retrograde effects extend to a little before and a little after the actual retrograde period itself, but STILL. By May we should be all right.

It's not accidental.

Imagine how hard it would be for someone to trace "Cleolinda Jones" back to you and your real name. Now think how amazingly quick the government is able to trace seemingly anonymous webpostings back to alleged criminals/terrorists. There's collusion going on.

I can't imagine anybody else in the role. Think he played nice long enough to work out a send-off episode? It'd suck all to hell if he just died stupidly one day, but I don't put it past those guys.

All I have to say is thank god Mercury retrograde is almost over.

That and the frat boy love song is the most brilliant thing I've read this week.
